शमी च गदवर्मा च निदातः शक्रशक्रजित्। शमिपुत्रः प्रतिक्षिप्तः प्रतिक्षिप्तस्य चात्मजः ।। ३४.
Śamī, Gadavarmā, Nidāta, Śakraśakrajit, Śamī's son Pratikṣipta, and Pratikṣipta's own son.
स्वयम्भोजः स्वयम्भोजाद्धृदिकः सम्बभूव ह। हृदिकस्य सुतास्त्वासन् दश भीमपराक्रमाः ।। ३४.
Svayambhoja was born, and from Svayambhoja came Hṛdika; Hṛdika had ten sons, all of tremendous valor.
कृतवर्मा कृतस्तेषां शतधन्वा तु मध्यमः। देवार्हश्च वनार्हश्च भिषग् द्वैतरथश्च यः ।। ३४.
Kṛtavarmā was the eldest of them, Kṛta among them, Śatadhanvā the middle one; also Devārha, Vanārha, Bhiṣag, and Dvaitaratha.
सुदान्तश्च धियान्तश्च नकवान् कनकोद्भवः। देवार्हस्य सुतो विद्वान् जज्ञे कम्बलबर्हिषः ।। ३४.
Sudānta, Dhiyānta, Nakavān, and Kanakodbhava; Devārha's learned son was born, named Kambalabarhiṣa.
असमौजाः सुतस्तस्य सुमहौजाश्च विश्रुतः। अजावपुत्राय ततः प्रददावसमौजसे। सुदंष्ट्रञ्च सुरूपञ्च कृष्ण इत्यन्धकाः स्मृताः ।। ३४.
Asamaujā was his son, famed as possessing great might; to Asamaujā, who was childless, were given Sudaṃṣṭra and Surūpa, known as the Andhakas, and also Kṛṣṇa.
अन्धकानामिमं वंशं कीर्त्तयानस्तु नित्यशः। आत्मानो विपुलं वंशं लभते नात्र संशयः ।। ३४.
Whoever continually recites this lineage of the Andhakas surely attains a flourishing family himself—of this there is no doubt.
अस्मक्यां जनयामास शूरो वै देवमानुषिम्। माष्यान्तु जनयामास शूरो वै देवमीढुषम् ।। ३४.
Śūra begot a divine-human son upon Asmakī, and upon Māṣyā he begot a divine and illustrious son.
भाष्यान्तु जज्ञिरे शूराद्भोजायां पुरुषा दश। वसुदेवो महाबाहुः पूर्वमानकदुन्दुभिः ।। ३४.
From Śūra and Bhāṣyā were born ten men among the Bhojas; Vasudeva, mighty-armed, formerly called Ānakadundubhi.
जज्ञे तस्य प्रसूतस्य दुन्दुभिः प्राणदद्दिवि। आनकानाञ्च संह्रादः सुमहानभवद्दिवि ।। ३४.
At his birth, the drums resounded in the sky, and a great tumult of kettledrums arose in the heavens.
पपात पुष्पवर्षञ्च शूरस्य भवने महत्। मनुष्यलोके कृत्स्नेऽपि रूपे नास्ति समो भुवि ।। ३४.
A great shower of flowers fell in Śūra's house; in all the world of men, there was none his equal in beauty upon the earth.
यस्यासीत् पुरुषाग्र्यस्य कीर्त्तिश्चन्द्रमसो यथा। देवभागस्ततो जज्ञे ततो देवश्रवाः पुनः ।। ३४.
His fame, like that of the foremost man, was as radiant as the moon; from him was born Devabhāga, and then again Devaśravā.
अनादृष्टिकडश्चैव नन्दनश्चैव भृञ्जिनः। श्यामः शमीको गण्डूषः चतस्रस्तु वराङ्गनाः ।। ३४.
Anādṛṣṭikaḍa, Nandana, Bhṛñjina, Śyāma, Śamīka, and Gaṇḍūṣa; and four excellent women.
पृथा च श्रुतवेदा च श्रुतकीर्त्तिः श्रुतश्रवाः। राजाधिदेवी च तथा पञ्चैता वीरमातरः ।। ३४.
Pṛthā, Śrutavedā, Śrutakīrti, Śrutaśravā, and Rājādhidevī—these five were the mothers of heroes.
पृथां दुहितरं चक्रे कुन्ति स्तां पाण्डुरावहत्। अनपत्याय वृद्धाय कुन्तिभोजाय तां ददौ ।। ३४.
Kunti made Pṛthā her daughter, and Pāṇḍu took her as his wife; Kuntibhoja, being old and without children, gave her to him.
तस्मात् कुन्तीति विख्याता कुन्तीभोजात्मजा पृथा। कुरुवीरः पाण्डुमुख्यस्तस्माद्भार्यामविन्दत ।। ३४.
Therefore, Pṛthā, daughter of Kuntibhoja, became renowned as Kuntī; from her, the foremost of the Kurus, Pāṇḍu, obtained his wife.
पृथा जज्ञे ततः पुत्रान् त्रीनग्निसमतेजसः। लोकेऽप्रतिरथान् वीरान् शक्रतुल्यपराक्रमान् ।। ३४.
From Pṛthā were born three sons, equal in brilliance to fire, unmatched in battle in the world, heroes with valor like Indra.
धर्माद्युधिष्ठिरं पुत्रं मारुताच्च वृकोदरम्। ईन्द्राद्धनञ्जयञ्चैव पृथा पुत्रानजीजनत् ।। ३४.
Pṛthā bore Yudhiṣṭhira from Dharma, Vṛkodara from Vāyu, and Dhanañjaya from Indra as her sons.
माद्रवत्यान्तु जनितावाश्विनाविति विश्रुतम्। नकुलः सहदेवश्च रूपसत्त्वगुणान्वितौ ।। ३४.
It is well known that from Mādravatī were born the twin Aśvins: Nakula and Sahadeva, endowed with beauty, strength, and virtues.
जज्ञे च श्रुतदेवायां तनयो वृद्धशर्मणः। करूषाधिपतिर्वीरो दन्तवक्रो महाबलः ।। ३४.
And to Śrutadevā was born a son of Vṛddhaśarman, the heroic lord of Karūṣa, mighty Dantavakra.
कैकेयां श्रुतकीर्त्यान्तु जज्ञे सन्तर्दनः पुनः। चेकितानबृहत्क्षत्रौ तथैवान्यौ महाबलौ ।। ३४.
To Śrutakīrti, the Kaikeyi, was born Santardana; also Cekitāna and Bṛhatkṣatra, and two other mighty ones.
विन्दानुविन्दावावन्त्यौ भ्रातरौ सुमहाबलौ। श्रुतश्रवायां चैद्यस्तु शिशुपालो बभूव ह ।। ३४.
Vindānuvinda, the two powerful brothers of Avanti, and from Śrutaśravā, the Caidya, was born Śiśupāla.
दमघोषस्य राजर्षेः पुत्रो विख्यातपौरुषः। यः पुरासीद्दशग्रीवः संबभूवारिमर्दनः ।। ३४.
To the royal sage Damaghoṣa was born a son famed for his prowess, who was formerly Daśagrīva, the crusher of enemies.
यदुश्रवानुजस्तस्य रुजकन्योऽनुजस्तथा। पत्न्यस्तु वसुदेवस्य त्रयोदश वराङ्गनाः ।। ३४.
His younger brother was Yaduśravā, and his younger sister was the daughter of Rujā; Vasudeva had thirteen illustrious wives.
पौरवी रोहिणी चैव मदिरा चापरा तथा। तथैव भद्रा वैशाखी देवकी सप्तमी तथा ।। ३४.
Pauravī, Rohiṇī, and also Madirā, another named Bhadrā, Vaiśākhī, and the seventh was Devakī.
सुगन्धिर्वनराजी च द्वे चान्ये परिचारिके ३४.
Sugandhi and Vanarājī, and two others who were attendants.
ज्येष्ठा पत्नी महाभागा दयितानकदुन्दुभेः । ज्येष्ठं लेभे सुतं रामं सारणं निशवं तथा ।। ३४.
The eldest and most fortunate wife, beloved of Anakadundubhi, bore the eldest son Rāma, as well as Sāraṇa and Niśa.
दुर्द्दमं दमनं शुभ्रं पिण्डारककुशीतकौ। चित्रां नाम कुमारीञ्च रोहिण्यष्टौ व्यजायत ।। ३४.
To Rohiṇī were born eight: Durddama, Damana, Śubhra, Piṇḍāraka, Kuśītaka, and a daughter named Citrā.
पौत्रौ रामस्य जज्ञाते विज्ञातौ निशितोत्सुकौ। पार्श्वी च पार्श्वनन्दी च शिशुः सत्यधृतिस्तथा ।। ३४.
To Rāma were born two grandsons, renowned as Niśita and Utsuka; also Pārśvī, Pārśvanandī, and a son named Satyadhṛti.
मन्दबाह्योऽथ रामाणगिरिकौ गिर एव च। शुक्लगुल्मेति गुल्मश्च दरिद्रान्तक एव च ।। ३४.
Mandabāhya, Rāmāṇa, Girika, Gira, Śuklagulma, Gulma, and Daridrāntaka.
कुमार्यश्चापि पञ्चाद्या नामतस्ता निबोधत। अर्चिष्मती सुनन्दा च सुरसा सुवचास्तथा ।। ३४.
Now hear the names of the first five daughters: Arciṣmatī, Sunandā, Surasā, and Suvacā.
