जायस्व शीघ्रं भद्रन्ते किमर्थं चापि तिष्ठसि। प्रोवाच चैनं गर्भ स्था सा कन्या गौर्दिने दिने ।। ३४.
"Be born quickly, O blessed one! Why do you remain?" Thus he spoke, and the girl, Gandini, replied daily from the womb.
यदि दत्ता तदा स्यां हि यदि स्यामीहतां पितः। तथेत्युवाच तां तस्याः पिता काममपूपुरत् ।। ३४.
"If I am given, then I will be born; if I am desired, father, then so be it." Her father replied, "So be it," and fulfilled her wish.
दाता यज्वा च शूरश्च श्रुतवानतिथिप्रियः। तस्याः पुत्रः स्मृतोऽक्रूरः श्वफल्को भूरिदक्षिणः ।। ३४.
A giver, a sacrificer, a hero, learned, and fond of guests—her son was known as Akrūra, Śvaphalka, generous in gifts.
उपमङ्गुस्तथा मङ्गुर्मृदुरश्चारिमेजयः। गिरिरक्षस्तता यक्षः शत्रुघ्नो वारिमर्द्दनः ।। ३४.
Upamaṅgu, Maṅgur, Mṛdura, Arimejaya, Girirakṣa, Yakṣa, Śatrughna, and Vārimardana.
धर्मभृच्च श्रृष्टचयो वर्गमोचस्तथापरः। आवाहप्रतिवाहौ च वसुदेवा वराङ्गना ।। ३४.
Dharmabhṛt, Śṛṣṭacaya, Vargamoca, and others; Āvāha and Prativāha, and Vasudeva, the excellent woman.
अक्रूरादुग्रसेन्यान्तु सुतौ द्वौ कुलनन्दिनौ। देवश्चानुपदेवश्च जज्ञाते देवसंमितौ ।। ३४.
From Akrūra and Ugrasena, two sons, delight of the lineage, were born: Deva and Anupadeva, equal to the gods.
चित्रकस्याभवन् पुत्राः पृथुर्विपृथुरेव च। अश्वग्रीवोऽश्वबाहुश्च सुपार्श्वकगवेषणौ ।। ३४.
Citraka had sons: Pṛthu, Vipṛthu, Aśvagrīva, Aśvabāhu, Supārśva, and Kagaveṣaṇa.
अरिष्टनेमिरश्वश्च सुवर्मा वर्मचर्मभृत् । अभूमिर्बहुभूमिश्च श्रविष्ठाश्रवणे स्त्रियौ ।। ३४.
Ariṣṭanemi, Aśva, Suvarmā, Varmacarmabhṛt, Abhūmi, Bahubhūmi, and the two women Śraviṣṭhā and Śravaṇā were also born.
सत्यकात् काशिदुहिता लेभे सा चतुरः सुतान्। ककुदं भजमानञ्च शमीकबलबर्हिषौ ।। ३४.
Satyakā, daughter of Kāśi, bore four sons: Kakuda, Bhajamāna, and also Śamīka and Balabarhiṣa.
ककुदस्य सुतो वृष्टिर्वृष्टेस्तु तनयोऽभवत्। कपोतरोमा तस्याथ रेवतोऽभवदात्मजः ।। ३४.
Kakuda's son was Vṛṣṭi, and Vṛṣṭi's son was Kapotaromā; his son, in turn, was Revata.
तस्यासीत्तुम्बुरुसखा विद्वान् पुत्रोऽभवत्किल। ख्यायते यस्य नाम्ना स चन्दनोदकदुन्दुभिः ।। ३४.
He had a learned son, a friend of Tumburu, who is renowned by the name Candana-udaka-dundubhi.
तस्माच्चाभिजितः पुत्र उत्पन्नस्तु पुनर्वसुः। अश्वमेधन्तु पुत्रार्थे आजहार नरोत्तमः ।। ३४.
From him was born Abhijit, whose son was Punarvasu; for the sake of a son, the noble one performed an Aśvamedha sacrifice.
तस्य मध्येऽतिरात्रस्य सदोमध्यात्समुत्थितम्। ततस्तु विद्वान् धर्मज्ञो दाता यज्वा पुनर्वसुः ।। ३४.
In the midst of that Atirātra sacrifice, from the center of the sacrificial hall, the learned, righteous, generous, and sacrificial Punarvasu arose.
तस्यापि पुत्रमिथुनं बाहुबाणाजितः किल। आहुकश्चाहुकी चैव ख्यातौ मतिमतांवरौ ।। ३४.
He too had twin children, Bāhubāṇa and Ajita; and Āhuka and Āhukī, both renowned among the wise.
इमांश्चोदाहरन्त्यत्र श्लोकान् प्रति तमाहुकम्। सोपासङ्गानुकर्षाणां सध्वजानां वरूथिनाम् ।। ३४.
Here, verses are recited concerning that Āhuka, about those with followers, with banners, and with troops.
रथानां मेघघोषाणां सहस्राणि दशैव तु। नासत्यवादी त्वासीत्तु नायज्वा नासहस्रदः ।। ३४.
There were ten thousand chariots with thunderous sound; he was never untruthful, nor did he neglect sacrifices, nor was he stingy.
नाशुचिर्नाप्यधर्मात्मा नाविद्वान्न कृशोऽभवत्। आहुकस्य धृतिः पुत्र इत्येवमनु शुश्रुमः ।। ३४.
He was never impure, nor unrighteous, nor ignorant, nor weak; thus we have heard about Dhṛti, son of Āhuka.
श्वेतेन परिचारेण किशोरप्रतिमान् हयान्। अशीतियुक्तनियुतान्याहुकप्रतिमोऽव्रजत् ।। ३४.
With a white attendant and horses like young colts, yoked in eighty pairs, one like Āhuka advanced.
पूर्वस्यान्दिशि नागानां भोजस्य प्रतिरेजिरे। रूप्यकाञ्चनकक्षाणां सहस्राण्येकविंशतिः ।। ३४.
In the eastern direction, twenty-one thousand elephants of Bhoja shone, with silver and gold armor.
तावन्त्येव सहस्राणि उत्तरस्यान्तथा दिशि। भूमिपालस्य भोजस्य उत्तिष्ठेत् किङ्किणी किल ।। ३४.
Just so many thousands, in the northern direction as well, the bells of Bhoja, lord of the earth, are said to have resounded.
आहुकश्चाहुकान्धाय स्वसारं त्वाहुकीन्ददौ। आहुकान्धस्य दुहिता द्वौ पुत्रौ सम्बभूवतुः ।। ३४.
Āhuka gave his sister Āhukī to Āhukāndha; the daughter of Āhukāndha bore two sons.
देवकश्चोग्रसेनश्च देवगर्भसमावुभौ । देवकस्य सुता वीरा जज्ञिरे त्रिदशोपमाः ।। ३४.
Devaka and Ugrasena, both filled with divine splendor, were born; Devaka's heroic daughters were born, equal to the gods.
देवानामपि देवश्च सुदेवो देवरञ्जिता। तेषां स्वसारः सप्तासन् वसुदेवाय संददौ ।। ३४.
Among the gods, Sudeva was the best, adorned by the gods; their seven sisters were given to Vasudeva.
वृकदेवोपदेवा च तथान्या देवरक्षिता। श्रीदेवा शान्तिदेवा च महादेवा तथापरा ।। ३४.
Vṛkadevā, Upadevā, Devarakṣitā, Śrīdevā, Śāntidevā, Mahādevā, and another—these were their names.
सप्तमी देवकी तासां सुनामा चारुदर्शना। नवोग्रसेनस्य सुताः कंसस्तेषान्तु पूर्वजः ।। ३४.
Of them, Devakī was the seventh, renowned and of lovely appearance; the nine sons of Ugrasena, among whom Kaṃsa was the eldest.
न्यग्रोधश्च सुनामा च कद्वशंकुश्च भूमयः। सूतनू राष्ट्रपालश्च युद्धतुष्टः सुपुष्टिमान् ।। ३४.
Nyagrodha, Sunāma, Kadva, Śaṃku, Bhūmaya, Sūtanū, Rāṣṭrapāla, Yuddhatuṣṭa, and Supuṣṭimān—these were the sons.
तेषां स्वसारः पञ्चैव कर्मधर्मवती तथा। शताङ्क्रू राष्ट्रापाला च कङ्वा चैव वराङ्गना ।। ३४.
Their sisters were five: Karmadharmavatī, Śatāṅkrū, Rāṣṭrāpālā, Kaṅvā, and the excellent woman Varāṅganā.
उग्रसेनो महापत्यो विख्यातः कुकुरोद्भवः। कुकुराणामिमं वंशं धारयन्नमितौजसाम्। आत्मनो विपुलं वंशं प्रजावांश्च भवेन्नरः ।। ३४.
Ugrasena, the great lord, was famed as descended from the Kukura lineage; upholding this line of the mighty Kukuras, a man becomes prosperous in offspring and his own lineage flourishes.
भजमानस्य पुत्रस्तु रथिमुख्यो विदूरथः। राज्याधिदेवः शूरश्च विदुरश्च सुतोऽभवत् ।। ३४.
Bhajamāna's son was Vidūratha, foremost among charioteers; Rājyādhideva, Śūra, and Vidura were his sons.
तस्य शूरस्य तु सुता जज्ञिरे बलवत्तराः । वातश्चैव निवातश्च शोणितः श्वेतवाहनः ।। ३४.
To that Śūra were born sons of great strength: Vāta, Nivāta, Śoṇita, and Śvetavāhana.
