भ्रातृत्वान्मर्षयाम्येष स्वस्ति तेऽस्तु व्रजाम्यहम्। कृत्यं न मे द्रारकया न त्वया न च वृष्णिभिः ।। ३४.
Out of brotherly affection, I forgive this; may all be well with you, I shall depart now. I have no grievance with the woman, with you, nor with the Vṛṣṇis.
प्रविवेश ततो रामो मिथिलामरिमर्द्दनः। सर्व्वकामैरुपहृतैर्मैथिलेनैव पूजितः ।। ३४.
Then Rāma, destroyer of enemies, entered Mithilā and was honored by the king of Mithilā with all desired offerings.
एतस्मिन्नेव काले तु बभ्रुर्मतिमतांवरः। नानारूपान् क्रतून् सर्व्वानाजहार निरर्गलान् ।। ३४.
At that very time, Babhrū, foremost among the wise, performed all kinds of unrestricted sacrifices of various forms.
दीक्षामयं सकवचं रक्षार्थं प्रविवेश ह। स्यमन्तककृते राजा गाधिपुत्रो महायशाः ।। ३४.
The illustrious king, son of Gādhi, entered the consecrated enclosure, wearing armor for protection, for the sake of the Syamantaka jewel.
अर्थान् रत्नानि चाग्र्याणि द्रव्याणि विविधानि च । षष्टिवर्षगते काले यज्ञेषु विन्ययोजयत् ।। ३४.
He dedicated wealth, excellent jewels, and various kinds of goods in the sacrifices when sixty years had passed.
अक्रूरयज्ञ इत्येते ख्यातास्तस्य महात्मनः। बह्वन्नदक्षिणाः सर्व्वे सर्व्वकामप्रदायिनः ।। ३४.
These famous sacrifices of that great soul were called 'Akrūra-yajñas,' all abundant in food and gifts, fulfilling every desire.
अथ दुर्य्योधनो राजा गत्वाऽथ मिथिलां प्रभुः। गदाशिक्षां ततो दिव्यां बलभद्रादवाप्तवान् ।। ३४.
Then King Duryodhana, the mighty lord, went to Mithilā and there received divine training in mace-fighting from Balabhadra.
प्रसाद्य तु ततो विप्रा वृष्ण्यन्धकमहारथैः। आनीतो द्वारकामेव कृष्णेन च महात्मना ।। ३४.
Afterward, having pleased the Brāhmaṇas together with the great warriors of the Vṛṣṇis and Andhakas, he was brought to Dvārakā by the great-souled Kṛṣṇa.
अक्रूरमन्धकैः सार्द्धमुपायात् पुरुषर्षभः। युद्धे हत्वा तु शत्रुग्नं सह बन्धुमता बली ।। ३४.
The best of men, accompanied by Akrūra and the Andhakas, arrived; in battle, the mighty one slew Śatrughna together with Bandhumān.
श्वफल्कतनयायान्तु नरायां नरसत्तमौ। भङ्गकारस्य तनयो विश्रुतौ सुमहाबलौ ।। ३४.
To the sons of Śvaphalka, the two illustrious and exceedingly strong sons of Bhaṅgakāra, renowned among men, were born in Nara.
जज्ञातेऽन्धकमुख्यस्य शत्रुघ्नो बन्धुमांश्च तौ। वधार्थं भङ्गकारस्य कृष्णो न प्रीतिमान् भवेत् ।। ३४.
Those two, Śatrughna and Bandhumān, were born to the chief of the Andhakas for the destruction of Bhaṅgakāra; Kṛṣṇa was not pleased because of this.
ज्ञाति भेदभयाद्भीतः समुपेक्षितवांस्तथा। अपयाते तथाक्रूरे नावर्षत्पाकशासनः ।। ३४.
Fearing discord among his kin, he overlooked it; and when Akrūra departed, Indra did not send rain.
अनावृष्ट्या हतं राष्ट्रमभवत्तद्वघोद्यतम्। ततः प्रसादयामासुरक्रूरं कुकुरान्धकाः ।। ३४.
Because of the drought, the land was ruined and famine threatened; then the Kukuras and Andhakas sought to appease Akrūra.
पुनर्द्वारवतीं प्राप्ते तदा दानपतौ तथा। प्रववर्ष सहस्राक्षः कुक्षौ जलनिधेस्ततः ।। ३४.
When that lord of gifts returned again to Dvāravatī, then the thousand-eyed one caused rain to fall into the ocean's womb.
कन्याञ्च वासुदेवाय स्वसारं शीलसम्मताम्। अक्रूरः प्रददौ श्रीमान् प्रीत्यर्थं यदुपुङ्गवः ।। ३४.
Akrūra, the glorious chief of the Yadus, gave his virtuous sister as a bride to Vāsudeva, to win his favor.
अत विज्ञाय योगेन कृष्णो बभ्रुगतं मणिम्। सभामध्ये तदा प्राह तमक्रूरं जनार्दनः ।। ३४.
Then Kṛṣṇa, knowing through yoga that the jewel had gone to Babhrū, spoke to Akrūra in the midst of the assembly.
यच्च रत्नं मणिवरं तव हस्तगतं प्रभो। तत्प्रयच्छस्व मानार्ह विमतिञ्चात्र मा कृथाः ।। ३४.
O lord, that precious jewel which is in your hand—give it up; do not harbor any resentment in this matter.
षष्टिवर्षगते काले यद्रोषोऽभूत्तदा मम। सुसंरूढः सकृत् प्राप्तस्तत्कालाश्रित्य स महान् ।। ३४.
When sixty years had passed, the anger that arose in me then became deeply rooted, having once arisen, and remained great from that time.
ततः कृष्णस्य वचनात् सर्व्वसात्वतसंसदि। प्रददौ तं मणिं बभ्रुरक्लेशेन महामतिः ।। ३४.
Then, at Krishna's word, in the assembly of all the Sātvatas, Babhrū, wise and untroubled, gave that jewel.
तत आर्ज्जवसंप्राप्तबभ्रुहस्तादरिन्दमः। ददौ प्रहृष्टमनसा तं मणिं बभ्रवे पुनः ।। ३४.
Thereafter, the enemy-subduer received the jewel from Babhrū's hand with sincerity, and joyfully gave it back to Babhrū.
स कृष्णहस्तात् संप्राप्य मणिरत्नं स्यमन्तकम्। आबद्ध्य गान्दिनीपुत्रो विरराजांशुमानिव ।। ३४.
Having received the Syamantaka gem from Krishna's hand, the son of Gandini fastened it and shone like a radiant one.
इमां मिथ्याभिशस्तिं यो विशुद्धामपि चोत्तमाम् । वेद मिथ्याभि शस्तिं स न व्रजेच्च कथञ्चन ।। ३४.
Whoever, knowing a pure and excellent accusation to be false, proclaims it as false, should never go to the world beyond.
अनिमित्राच्छिनिर्जज्ञे कनिष्ठाद्वृष्णिनन्दनात् ।। ३४.
Animitra was born from the youngest son of the Vrishni lineage.
सत्यवाक् सत्यसम्पन्नः सत्यकस्तस्य चात्मजः। सात्यकिर्युयुधानस्य तस्य भूतिः सुतोऽभवत् ।। ३४.
Satyaka, truthful and endowed with truth, was his son; Satyaki, son of Yuyudhana, was born to him.
भूतेर्युगन्धरः पुत्र इति भौत्याः प्रकीर्त्तिताः। जज्ञाते तनयौ पृश्नेः श्वफल्कश्चित्रकश्च यः ।। ३४.
Bhūti's son was Yugandhara; these are called the descendants of Bhūti. Śvaphalka and Citraka were born as sons of Pṛśni.
श्वफल्कस्तु महाराजो धर्मात्मा यत्र वर्त्तते। नास्ति व्याधिभयं तत्र न चावृष्टिभयं तथा ।। ३४.
Śvaphalka, the great king, righteous in soul, wherever he resides, there is no fear of disease nor of drought.
कदाचित् काशिराजस्य विभोस्तु द्विजसत्तमाः। त्रीणि वर्षाणि विषये नावर्षत्पाकशासनः ।। ३४.
Once, O best of twice-born, in the realm of the illustrious king of Kāśi, for three years, the rain-god did not rain.
स तत्र वासयामास श्वफल्कं परमार्चितम्। श्वफल्कपरिवासेन प्रावर्षत्पाकशासनः ।। ३४.
There, he caused Śvaphalka, highly honored, to dwell; by Śvaphalka's residence, the rain-god poured rain.
श्वफल्कः काशिराजस्य सुतां भार्यामनिन्दिताम्। गान्दिनीं नाम गां सा हि ददौ विप्राय नित्यशः ।। ३४.
Śvaphalka took as wife the blameless daughter of the king of Kāśi, named Gandini; she always gave cows to the Brahmin.
सा मातुरुदरस्था वै बहुवर्ष शतान् किल। वसति स्म न वै जज्ञे सर्भस्थान्तां पिताब्रवीत् ।। ३४.
She dwelt in her mother's womb for many hundreds of years, and was not born; her father spoke to her, who remained in the womb.
