पुत्रस्तु रुक्मकवचो विद्वान् कम्बलवर्हिषः। निहत्य रुक्मकवचः पुरा कवचिनो रणे ।। ३३.
Kambalabarhi's son was Rukmakavaca, wise; in ancient times, Rukmakavaca slew the Kavacins in battle.
धन्विनो निशितैर्बाणैरवाप श्रियमुत्तमाम्। ब्राह्मणेभ्यो ददौ वित्तमश्वमेधमहायशाः ।। ३३.
With sharp arrows, the bowman gained supreme wealth; famed for the horse sacrifice, he gave riches to the Brahmins.
राज्ञस्तु रुक्मकवचादपरावृत्त्य वीरहाः। जज्ञिरे पञ्च पुत्रास्तु महासत्त्वा महाबलाः ।। ३३.
From King Rukmakavaca, after turning away from killing heroes, five sons were born, possessing great strength and valor.
रुक्मेषुः पृथुरुक्मश्च ज्यामघः परिघो हरिः। परिघञ्च हरिञ्चैव विदेहे स्थापयत्पिता ।। ३३.
Rukmeṣu, Pṛthurukma, Jyāmagha, Parigha, and Hari; their father established Parigha and Hari in Videha.
ब्रह्मेषुरभवद्राजा पृथुरुक्मस्तदाश्रयः। तेभ्यः प्रव्रजितो राज्या ज्ज्यामघोऽभवदाश्रमे ।। ३३.
Brahmeṣu became king, supported by Pṛthurukma; Jyāmagha, having renounced the kingdom, dwelt in the hermitage.
प्रशान्तस्तु वने घोरे ब्राह्मणेनावबोधितः। जगाम धनुरादाय देशमध्यं रथी ध्वजी ।। ३३.
Calm in the dreadful forest, instructed by a Brahmin, he took up his bow and went, bearing a chariot and banner, to the central region.
नर्म्मदानूप एकाकी मेकलावृत्तिका अपि। ऋक्षवन्तं गिरिं गत्वा शुक्तिमन्यामथाविशत् ।। ३३.
Alone by the banks of the Narmada, in the region of Mekala, he went to the mountain Ṛkṣavanta and then entered Śuktiman.
ज्यामघस्याभवद्भार्या शैभ्या बलवती भृशम्। अपुत्रोऽपि स वै राजा भार्यामन्यां न विन्दति ।। ३३.
Jyāmagha's wife was Śaibhyā, exceedingly strong; though the king was childless, he did not take another wife.
तस्यासीद्विजयो युद्धे ततः कन्यामवाप सः। भार्यामुवाच राजा स स्नुषेति तु नरेश्वरः ।। ३३.
He achieved victory in battle, and then obtained a maiden; the king addressed his wife, saying, 'She is our daughter-in-law.'
एवमुक्ताब्रवीदेवं काम्ये यन्ते स्नुषेति सा। यस्ते जनिष्यते पुत्रस्तस्य भार्या भविष्यति ।। ३३.
Thus spoken to, she replied, 'So be it, let her be the daughter-in-law; the son who will be born to you, she shall be his wife.'
तस्य सा तपसोग्रेण शैब्या वैशं प्रसूयत । पुत्रं विदर्भं सुभगा शैब्या परिणता सती ।। ३३.
By the power of his intense austerity, Shaibya gave birth to a son, Vidarbha, and the virtuous Shaibya, having matured, bore him a son.
राजपुत्रौ तु विद्वांसौ स्नुषायां क्रथुकौशिकौ। पुत्रौ विदर्भोऽजनयच्छूरौ रणविशारदौ ।। ३३.
The learned Vidarbha begot two sons, Krathu and Kaushika, through his daughter-in-law, both skilled warriors renowned in battle.
लोमपादं तृतीयन्तु पश्चाज्जज्ञे सुधार्मिकः। लोम पादात्मजोवस्तुराहृतिस्तस्य चात्मजः ।। ३३.
Later, the third son, the righteous Lomapada, was born; Lomapada's son was Avastura, and Ahrita was his son.
कौशिकस्य चिदिः पुत्रस्तस्माच्चैद्या नृपाः स्मृताः । क्रथोर्विदर्भपुत्रस्तु कुन्तिस्तस्यात्मजोऽभवत् ।। ३३.
Kaushika's son was Cidi, from whom the kings called Caidyas are known; Krathu's son by Vidarbha was Kunti, and Kunti's son was Kunti.
कुन्तेर्धृष्टसुतो जज्ञे पुरोधृष्टः प्रतापवान् । धृष्टस्य पुत्रो धर्मात्मा निर्वृतिः परवीरहा ।। ३३.
From Kunti was born the valiant Dhrishta, known as Purodhrishta; Dhrishta's son was Nirvriti, righteous and destroyer of enemy heroes.
तस्य पुत्रो दशार्हस्तु महाबलपराक्रमः। दशर्हस्य सुतो व्योमा ततो जीमूत उच्यते ।। ३३.
His son was Dasharha, of great strength and valor; Dasharha's son was Vyoma, from whom Jīmūta is said to have descended.
जीमूतपुत्रो विकृतिस्तस्य भीमरथः सुतः. अथ भीमरथस्यासीत् पुत्रो रथवरः किल ।। ३३.
Jīmūta's son was Vikriti, whose son was Bhīmaratha; and Bhīmaratha's son was known as Rathavara.
दाता धर्म्मरतो नित्यं शीलसत्यपरायणः। तस्य पुत्रो नवरथस्ततो दशरथः स्मृतः ।। ३३.
Rathavara was ever generous, devoted to righteousness, and steadfast in character and truth; his son was Navaratha, and from him came Dasharatha.
तस्य चैकादशरथः शकुनिस्तस्य चात्मजः। तस्मात् करम्भको धन्वी देवरातोऽभवत्ततः ।। ३३.
From him came Ekadasharatha, and his son was Shakuni; from him was born Karambhaka, an archer, and then Devarata.
देवक्षत्रोऽभवद्राजा देवरातिर्म्महायशाः। देवक्षत्रसुतो जज्ञे देवनः क्षत्रनन्दनः ।। ३३.
Devarata, the illustrious king, was born as Devakshatra; Devakshatra's son was Devanā, the joy of the Kshatra lineage.
देवनात् स मधुर्जज्ञे यस्य मेधार्थसम्भवः। मधोश्चापि महातेजा मनुर्मनुवशस्तथा ।। ३३.
From Devanā was born Madhu, whose birth was for the sake of wisdom; from Madhu came the mighty Manu and also Manu's lineage.
नन्दनश्च महातेजा महापुरुवशस्तथा। आसीत् पुरुवशात् पुत्रः पुरुद्वान् पुरुषोत्तमः ।। ३३.
Nandana, of great splendor, and Mahāpuruvasha were also born; from Puruvasā's son came Purudvān, the best among men.
जज्ञे पुरुद्वतः पुत्रो भद्रवत्यां पुरूद्वहः। ऐक्षाकी त्वभवद्भार्या सत्त्वस्तस्यामजायत। सत्त्वात् सत्त्वगुणो पेतः सात्त्वतः कीर्तिवर्द्धनः ।। ३३.
From Purudvān was born Purūdvaha in Bhadravati; his wife was Aikshaki, and their son was Sattva; from Sattva, endowed with the quality of goodness, came Sāttvata, the increaser of fame.
इमां विसृष्टिं विज्ञाय ज्यामघस्य महात्मनः। प्रजावानेति सायुज्यं राज्ञः सोमस्य धीमतः ।। ३३.
Knowing this lineage of the great-souled Jyāmagha, he, rich in progeny, attained union with the wise king Soma.
सूत उवाच।। सात्वती रूपसम्पन्नं कौशल्या सुषुवे सुतम्। भजिनं भजमानं च दिव्यं देवावृधं नृपम् ।। ३४.
Sūta said: Kauśalyā gave birth to a son of the Sāttvata line, endowed with beauty—Bhajina, Bhajamāna, the divine king Devāvṛdha.
अन्धकञ्च सहाभोजं वृष्णिञ्च यदुनन्दनम्। तेषां हि सर्गाश्चत्वारः श्रृणुध्वं विस्तरेण वै ।। ३४.
Andhaka, Sahābhoja, Vṛṣṇi, and Yadu's descendant were also born; hear now in detail of their four lineages.
भजमानस्य श्रृञ्जय्यां बाह्यश्चोपरि बाह्यकः। श्रृञ्जयस्य सुते द्वे तु बाह्यकस्ते उदावहत् ।। ३४.
To Bhajamāna by Śṛñjaya was born Bāhya, and above him, Bāhyaka; Śṛñjaya had two sons, and Bāhyaka took them both.
तस्य भार्ये भगिन्यौ ते प्रासूतेति सुतान् बहून्। निमिश्च पणवश्चैव वृष्णिः परपुरञ्जयः ।। ३४.
His two wives, who were sisters, bore him many sons: Nimi, Paṇava, and Vṛṣṇi, the conqueror of enemy cities.
ये बाह्यकार्य्यश्रृञ्जय्यां भजमानाद्विजज्ञिरे। अयुतायुतसाहस्र शतजिदथ वामकः ।। ३४.
Those who were recognized as brahmins among the external Karyaśrṛñjaya, Ayutāyuta, Sāhasra, Śatajid, and Vāmaka.
बाह्यकार्य्याभगिन्यां ये भजमाना द्विजज्ञिरे। तेषां देवावृधो राजा चचार परमं तपः ।। ३४.
Among those who were recognized as brahmins in the external Kāryyābhagini, the king Devāvṛdha performed supreme austerity.
