दिवोदासादॄषद्वत्यां वीरो जज्ञे प्रतर्द्दनः। तेन पुत्रेण बालेन प्रहृतं तस्य वै पुनः ।। ३०.
From Divodasa and Rishadvati was born a heroic son, Pratardana; by that son, while still a boy, the kingdom was attacked again.
वैरस्यान्तं महाराज्ञा तदा तेन विधत्सता। प्रतर्द्दनस्य पुत्रौ द्वौ वत्सो गर्गश्च विश्रुतः ।। ३०.
At that time, the great king brought an end to the enmity; Pratardana had two famous sons, Vatsa and Garga.
वत्सपुत्रो ह्यलर्कस्तु सन्नतिस्तस्य चात्मजः । अलर्कं प्रति राजर्षिर्गीतश्लोकौ पुरातनौ ।। ३०.
Vatsa's son was Alarka, and Sannati was his own son; regarding Alarka, the royal sage composed two ancient verses.
षष्टिवर्षसहस्राणि षष्टिवर्षशतानि च। युवा रूपेण सम्पन्नो ह्यलर्कः काशिसत्तमः ।। ३०.
For sixty thousand and sixty hundred years, Alarka, the best of the Kashi, remained youthful in appearance.
लोपामुद्रा प्रसादेन परमायुरवाप्तवान् ।। ३०.
By the grace of Lopamudra, he attained the highest span of life.
शापस्यान्ते महाबाहुर्हत्वा क्षेमकराक्षसम्। रम्यामावासयामास पुरीं वाराणसीं नृपः ।। ३०.
At the end of the curse, the mighty-armed king, having slain the demon Kṣemakara, made the delightful city of Varanasi his abode.
सन्नतेरपि दायादः सुनीथो नाम धार्मिकः। सुनीथस्य तु दायादः सुकेतुर्नाम धार्म्मिकः ।। ३०.
Sannati also had an heir named Sunitha, who was righteous; Sunitha's heir was Suketu, also righteous.
सुकेतुतनयश्चापि धर्मकेतुरिति श्रुतिः। धर्मकेतोस्तु दायादः सत्यकेतुर्महारथः ।। ३०.
Suketu's son was known as Dharmaketu; Dharmaketu's heir was Satyaketu, a mighty charioteer.
सत्यकेतुसुतश्चापि विभुर्नाम प्रजेश्वरः। सुविभुस्तु विभोः पुत्रः सुकुमारस्ततः स्मृतः ।। ३०.
Satyaketu's son was Vibhu, lord of the people; Suvibhu was Vibhu's son, and from him came Sukumara.
सुकुमारस्य पुत्रस्तु धृष्टकेतुः स धार्म्मिकः। धुष्टकेतोस्तु दायादो वेणुहोत्रः प्रजेश्वरः ।। ३०.
Sukumara's son was Dhṛṣṭaketu, who was righteous; Dhṛṣṭaketu's heir was Veṇuhotra, lord of the people.
वेणुहोत्रसुतश्चापि गार्ग्यो वै नाम विश्रुतः। गार्ग्यस्य गर्गभूमिस्तु वात्स्यो वत्सस्य धीमतः ।। ३०.
Veṇuhotra's son was the renowned Gārgya; Gārgya's son was Gargabhūmi, and Vātsya was the wise son of Vatsa.
ब्राह्मणाः क्षत्रियाश्चैव तयोः पुत्राः सुधार्म्मिकाः। विक्रान्ता बलवन्तश्च सिंहतुल्यपराक्रमाः ।। ३०.
From those two were born sons who were Brahmins and Kshatriyas, exceedingly righteous, valiant, powerful, and as courageous as lions.
इत्येते काश्यपाः प्रोक्ता रजेरपि निबोधत। रजेः पुत्रशतान्यासन् पञ्च वीर्यवतो भुवि। राजेयमिति विख्यातं क्षत्रमिन्द्रभयावहम् ।। ३०.
Thus have the Kāśyapas been described; now hear of Raji. Raji had five hundred mighty sons on earth; that Kshatriya line, known as Rājeya, struck fear even in Indra.
तदा दैवासुरे युद्धे समुत्पन्ने सुदारुणे। देवाश्चैवासुराश्चैव पितामहमथाब्रुवन् ।। ३०.
Then, when a fierce battle arose between the gods and the demons, both the gods and the demons approached the Grandsire and spoke to him.
आवयोर्भगवान् युद्धे विजेता को भविष्यति। ब्रूहि नः सर्व्वलोकेश श्रोतुमिच्छामहे वयम् ।। ३०.
O Lord of all worlds, tell us: in battle between the two of us, who will be the victor? We wish to hear.
ब्रह्मोवाच।। येषामर्थाय संग्रामे रजिरात्तायुधः प्रभुः। योत्स्यते ते विजेष्यन्ति त्रील्लोँकान्नात्र संशयः ।। ३०.
Brahma said: Those for whose sake the mighty Rajī takes up arms and fights in battle—without doubt, they will conquer the three worlds.
रजिर्यतस्ततो लक्ष्मीर्यतो लक्ष्मीस्ततो धृतिः। यतो धृतिस्ततो धर्मो यतो धर्मस्ततो जयः ।। ३०.
Where Rajī is, there is fortune; where fortune is, there is steadfastness; where steadfastness is, there is righteousness; where righteousness is, there is victory.
तद्देवा दानवाः सर्वे ततः श्रुत्वा रजेर्जयम्। अभ्ययुर्जयमिच्छन्तः स्तुवन्तो राजसत्तमम् ।। ३०.
Then, having heard of Rajī’s victory, all the gods and demons approached, desiring success, and praised the best of kings.
ते हृष्टमनसः शर्वे राजानं देवदानवाः। ऊचुरस्मज्जयाय त्वं गृहाण वरकार्मुकम् ।। ३०.
All the gods and demons, their hearts gladdened, said to the king: For our victory, take up your excellent bow.
रजिरुवाच।। अहञ्जेष्यामि नो युद्धे देवान् शक्रपुरोगमान्। इन्द्रो भवामि धर्मात्मा ततो योत्स्यामि संयुगे ।। ३०.
Rajī said: I will defeat the gods, led by Indra, in battle; then, being righteous, I shall become Indra and fight in the war.
दानवा ऊचुः।। अस्माकमिन्द्रः प्रह्लादस्तस्यार्थे विजयामहे। अस्मिस्तु समये राजंस्तिष्ठेथादेव नोऽदितेः ।। ३०.
The demons said: Prahlāda is our Indra; for his sake we seek victory. At this time, O king, remain on our side, not with Aditi’s son.
स तथेति ब्रुवन्नेव देवैरप्यभिचोदितः। भविष्यसीन्द्रो जित्वेति देवैरपि निमन्त्रितः ।। ३०.
He replied, 'So be it,' and was urged by the gods as well; the gods also invited him, saying, 'You will become Indra after victory.'
जघान दानवान् सर्व्वान् समक्षं वज्रपाणिनः। स विप्रनष्टां देवानां परमश्रीः श्रियं वशी ।। ३०.
He struck down all the demons before the wielder of the thunderbolt; he, the master of fortune, restored the supreme splendor lost by the gods.
निहत्य दानवान् सर्व्वान् व्याजहार रजिः प्रभुः। तं तथा तु रझिं तत्र देवैस्सह शतक्रतुः ।। ३०.
Having slain all the demons, the mighty Rajī spoke; then, there, Indra together with the gods addressed Rajī.
रजिपुत्रोऽहमित्युक्त्वा पुनरेवाब्रवीद्वचः। ईन्द्रोऽसि राजन् देवानां सर्वेषान्नात्र संशयः। यस्याहमिन्द्रपुत्रस्ते ख्यातिं यास्यामि शत्रुहन् ।। ३०.
Declaring, 'I am Rajī’s son,' he spoke again: 'You are Indra, king of the gods, without doubt; since I am your son, O slayer of foes, I will attain fame.'
स तु शक्रवचः श्रुत्वा वञ्चितस्तेन मायया। तथेत्येवाब्रवीद्राजा प्रीयमाणः शतक्रतुम् ।। ३०.
But hearing these words of Indra, he was deceived by that illusion; the king, pleased, replied to Indra, 'So be it.'
तस्मिंस्तु देवसदृशे दिवं प्राप्ते महीपतौ। दायाद्यमिन्द्रादाजह्रुराचारं तनया रजेः ।। ३०.
When that king, equal to the gods, ascended to heaven, the sons of Rajī took from Indra his share of the inheritance and his position.
तानि पुत्रशतान्यस्य तच्च स्थानं शचीपतेः। समक्रामन्त बहुधा स्वर्गलोकं त्रिविष्टपम् ।। ३०.
Those hundreds of sons, and the seat of Śacī’s lord, entered in many ways the heavenly world, the realm of the gods.
ततः काले बहुतिथे सतीते महाबलः। हृतराज्योऽब्रवीच्छक्रो हृतभागो बृहस्पतिम् ।। ३०.
Then, after a long time had passed, the mighty Indra, deprived of his kingdom and share, spoke to Bṛhaspati.
बदरीफलमात्रं वै पुरोडाशं विधत्स्व मे। ब्रह्मर्षे येन तिष्ठेयं तेजसाप्यायितस्ततः ।। ३०.
Prepare for me an offering the size of a jujube fruit, O Brahmarṣi, so that, nourished by its energy, I may endure.
