Seeing this and discerning it through yoga, Ṛcīka, the foremost of Brahmins, spoke to his beautiful wife.
O gentle one, because of the exchange of charus by your mother, your son will be born cruel in deed and exceedingly fierce.
But your mother will give birth to a son endowed with ascetic power; for I have dedicated all my austerities to that purpose.
Thus addressed by her husband, the noble Satyavatī sought to appease him: 'Let not my son be such; let another, not of the Brahmin class, be so,' she said. The sage replied:
O gentle one, this was not my intention, nor was it yours; but due to the actions of both father and mother, your son will be fierce in deed.
Again, thus addressed, Satyavatī said: 'O sage, if you wish, you could create even worlds—why not a son?'

O best of Brahmins, it is not possible for me to alter this in your case; yet, by the power of your austerity, he granted her a favor.
'O beautiful one, I make no distinction between son and grandson; as you have spoken, so it shall be, O gentle lady.'
Therefore, Satyavatī gave birth to Bhārgava Jamadagni, devoted to austerity, self-controlled, and peaceful in nature.

His greatly fortunate daughter was Renuka, also called Kamali; from Kamali, endowed with asceticism and steadfastness, R̥cīka begot Jamadagni, fierce in power.
