शंखणस्य सुतो विद्वान् ध्युषिताश्च इति श्रुतः । ध्युषिताश्च सुतश्चापि राजा विश्वसहः किल ।। २६.
Shankhana’s learned son was known as Dhyushitasha; Dhyushitasha’s son was the king Vishvasaha.
हिरण्यनाभः कौशल्यो वसिष्ठस्तत्सुतोऽभवत्। पौत्रस्य जैमिनेः शिष्यः स्मृतः सर्वेषु शर्मसु ।। २६.
Hiranyanabha, the Kosalan, was his son; he was the disciple of Jaimini’s grandson Vasistha, renowned in all the Shastras.
शतानि संहितानान्तु पञ्च योऽधीतवांस्ततः। तस्मादधिगतो योगो याज्ञवल्क्येन धीमता ।। २६.
He studied five hundred collections (Samhitas); from him, the wise Yajnavalkya obtained the knowledge of Yoga.
पुष्यस्तस्य सुतो विद्वान् ध्रुवसन्धिश्च तत्सुतः। सुदर्शनस्तस्य सुतो अग्निवर्णः सुदर्शनात् ।। २६.
His learned son was Pushya, whose son was Dhruvasandhi; Sudarshana was Dhruvasandhi’s son, and Agnivarṇa was Sudarshana’s.
अग्निवर्णस्य शीघ्रस्तु शीघ्रकस्य मनुः स्मृतः। मनुस्तु योगमास्थाय कलापग्राममास्थितः। एकोनविंशप्रयुगे क्षत्रप्रावर्त्तकः प्रभुः ।। २६.
The swift one of fiery complexion is known as Śīghra, and Śīghra's son is called Manu. Manu, having taken up yoga, resided in the village of Kalāpa, and in the nineteenth cycle, the lord became the originator of the Kṣatrapas.
प्रसुश्रुतो मनोः पुत्रः सुसन्धिस्तस्य चात्मजः। सुसन्धेश्च तथामर्षः सहस्वान्नाम नामतः ।। २६.
Prasuśruta was the son of Manu, and Susandhi was the son of Prasuśruta. From Susandhi came Amarṣa, and from Amarṣa, Sahasvān by name.
आसीत्सहस्वतः पुत्रो राजा विश्रुतवानिति। तस्यासीद्विश्रुतवतः पुत्रो राजा बृहद्बलः ।। २६.
Sahasvata had a son, the renowned king Viśrutavān. Viśrutavān's son was the king Bṛhadbala.
एते इक्ष्वाकुदायादा राजानः प्रायशः स्मृताः। वंशे प्रधाना ये तेऽस्मिन् प्राधान्येन तु कीर्त्तिताः ।। २६.
These kings, descendants of Ikṣvāku, are generally remembered as the principal ones in this lineage, and they are mentioned here with prominence.
पठन् सम्यगिमां सृष्टिमादित्यस्य विवस्वतः। प्रजावानेति सायुज्यं मनोर्वैवस्वतस्य सः ।। २६.
Whoever properly recites this account of the creation by Āditya Vivasvat attains union with the progenitor, Manu Vaivasvata, along with prosperity.
श्राद्धदेवस्य देवस्य प्रजानां पुष्टिदस्य च। विपाप्मा विरजाश्चैव आयुष्मान् भवतेऽच्युतः ।। २६.
He becomes free from sin, pure, long-lived, and unshaken, like Śrāddhadeva, the god who bestows prosperity upon beings.
अनुजस्य विकुक्षेस्तु निमेर्वंशं निबोधत। योऽसौ निवेशयामास पुरन्देवपुरोपमम् ।। २७.
Now hear of the lineage of Nimi, the younger brother of Vikukṣi, who established a city comparable to that of the gods.
जयन्तमितिविख्यातं गौतमस्याश्रमाभितः। यस्यान्ववाये यज्ञे वै जनकादृषिसत्तमात् ।। २७.
It became famous as Jayanta, situated near the hermitage of Gautama, and in its line, during a sacrifice, the eminent sage Janaka was born.
नेमिर्नाम सुधर्मात्मा सर्वसत्वनमस्कृतः। आसीत् पुत्रो महाप्राज्ञ इक्ष्वाकोर्भूरितेजसः ।। २७.
Nimi, of righteous nature and revered by all beings, was the wise son of Ikṣvāku, endowed with great brilliance.
स शापेन वसिष्ठस्य विदेहः समपद्यत। तस्य पुत्रो मिथिर्नाम जनितः पर्वभिस्त्रिभिः ।। २७.
By the curse of Vasiṣṭha, he became known as Videha. His son, named Mithi, was born through three great rites.
अरण्यां मथ्यमानायां प्रादुर्भूतो महायशाः। नाम्ना मिथिरिति ख्यातो जननाज्जनकोऽभवत् ।। २७.
When the churning was performed in the forest, the illustrious Mithi appeared, and from his birth, he became known as Janaka.
मिथिर्नाम महावीर्यो येनासौ मिथिलाभवत्। राजासौ जनको नाम जनकाच्चाप्युदावसुः ।। २७.
Mithi, of great prowess, gave his name to Mithilā. That king was called Janaka, and from Janaka came Udāvasu.
उदावसोः सुधर्मात्मा जनितो नन्दिवर्द्धनः। नन्दिवर्द्धनतः शूरः सुकेतुर्नाम धार्मिकः ।। २७.
From Udāvasu was born the righteous Nandivardhana, and from Nandivardhana came the valiant and virtuous Suketu.
सुकेतोरपि धर्मात्मा देवरातो महाबलः। देवरातस्य धर्मात्मा बृहदुच्छ इति श्रुतिः ।। २७.
From Suketu, also righteous, was born Devarāta, of great strength. Devarāta's son, also righteous, was known as Bṛhaduccha.
बृहदुच्छस्य तनयो महावीर्यः प्रतापवान् । महावीर्यस्य धृतिमान् सुधृतिस्तस्य चात्मजः ।। २७.
Bṛhaduccha's son was the mighty and powerful Mahāvīrya. Mahāvīrya's son, steadfast in resolve, was Sudhṛti.
सुधृतेरपि धर्मात्मा धृष्टकेतुः परन्तपः। धृष्टकेतु सुतश्चापि हर्यश्वो नाम विश्रुतः ।। २७.
Sudhṛti's son, also righteous, was Dhṛṣṭaketu, the subduer of foes. Dhṛṣṭaketu's son was the renowned Haryaśva.
हर्यश्वस्य मरुः पुत्रो मरोः पुत्रः प्रतित्वकः। प्रतित्वकस्य धर्मात्मा राजा कीर्त्तिरथः सुतः ।। २७.
Haryaśva's son was Maru, and Maru's son was Pratitvaka. Pratitvaka's son, the righteous king, was Kīrttiratha.
पुत्रः कीर्त्तिरथस्यापि देवमीढ इति श्रुतः । देवमीढस्य विबुधो विबुधस्य सुतो धृतिः ।। २७.
Kīrttiratha's son was known as Devamīḍha. Devamīḍha's son was Vibudha, and Vibudha's son was Dhṛti.
महाधृतिसुतो राजा कीर्त्तिराजः प्रतापवान् । कीर्त्ति राजात्मजो विद्वान् महारोमेति विश्रुतः ।। २७.
The king Kīrttirāja, son of Mahādhṛti, was renowned for his valor; his learned son, celebrated as Mahāroma, was widely known.
महारोम्णस्तु विख्यातः स्वर्णरोमा व्यजायत। स्वर्णरोमात्मजश्चापि ह्रस्वरोमाभवनृपः ।। २७.
From Mahāroma was born the famous Svarṇaroma; and from Svarṇaroma, the king Hrasvaroma was born.
ह्रस्वरोमात्मजो विद्वान् सीरध्वज इति श्रुतिः। उद्भिन्ना कृषता येन सीता राज्ञा यशस्विनी। रामस्य महिषी साध्वी सुव्रतातिपतिव्रता ।। २७.
The learned son of Hrasvaroma was known as Sīradhvaja; it is said that the illustrious Sītā was uncovered by him while plowing, she who was the virtuous queen of Rāma, steadfast in her vows and supremely devoted to her husband.
शांशपायन उवाच।। कथं सीता समुत्पन्ना कृष्यमाणा यशस्विनी। किमर्थञ्चाकृषद्राजा क्षेत्रं यस्मिन् बभूव ह ।। २७.
Śāṃśapāyana said: How was the illustrious Sītā born while the field was being plowed? For what purpose did the king plow the field in which she appeared?
सूत उवाच।। अग्निक्षेत्रे कृष्यमाणे अश्वमेधे महात्मनः। विधिना सुप्रयुक्तेन तस्मात्सा तु समुत्थिता ।। २७.
The Sūta said: While the sacrificial ground was being plowed for the great soul's horse sacrifice, with proper ritual, from that place she arose.
सीरध्वजात्तु जातस्तु भानुमान्नाम मैथिलः। भ्राता कुशध्वजस्तस्य स काश्यधिपतिर्नृपः ।। २७.
From Sīradhvaja was born Bhānumān, called Maithila; his brother Kuśadhvaja became king of Kāśī.
तस्य भानुमतः पुत्रः प्रद्युम्नश्च प्रतापवान्। मुनिस्तस्य सुतश्चापि तस्मादूर्जवहः स्मृतः ।। २७.
Pradyumna, renowned for his valor, was the son of Bhānumān; his son was the sage, from whom Ūrjavaha was remembered.
ऊर्जवहात् सुतद्वाजः शकुनिस्तस्य चात्मजः। स्वागतः शकुनेः पुत्रः सुवर्च्चास्तत्सुतः स्मृतः ।। २७.
From Ūrjavaha came Sutadvāja; his son was Śakuni; Svāgata was the son of Śakuni, and Suvarcā was remembered as his son.
