सुदासस्तस्य तनयो राजा हंसमुखोऽभवत्। सुदासस्य सुतः प्रोक्तः सौदासो नाम पार्थिवः ।। २६.
Sudāsa was his son, the king with the face of a swan; Sudāsa's son is known as Saudāsa, the ruler.
ख्यातः कल्माषपादो वै नाम्ना मित्रसहश्च सः । वसिष्ठस्तु महातेजाः क्षेत्रे कल्माषपादके। अश्मकं जनयामास इक्ष्वाकुकुलवृद्धये ।। २६.
He is famed as Kalmāṣapāda by name, and also as Mitrasaha; the great sage Vasiṣṭha, of immense brilliance, begot Aśmaka in the field of Kalmāṣapāda, for the growth of the Ikṣvāku lineage.
अश्मकस्योरकामस्तु मूलकस्तत्सुतोऽभवत्। अत्राप्युदाहरन्तीमं मूलकं वै नृपं प्रति ।। २६.
Aśmaka's son was Urakāma, and his son was Mūlaka; here, they cite this story concerning King Mūlaka.
स हि रामभयाद्राजा स्त्रीभिः परिवृतोऽवसत्। विवस्त्रस्त्राणमिच्छन् वै नारीकवचमीश्वरः ।। २६.
That king, out of fear of Rāma, lived surrounded by women; desiring protection, the lord wore women's armor, unclothed.
मूलकस्यापि धर्मात्मा राजा शतरथः स्मृतः। तस्माच्छतरथाज्जज्ञे राजा चैडिविडो बली ।। २६.
Mūlaka's son, remembered as righteous, was King Śataratha; from Śataratha was born the powerful King Vaiḍiviḍa.
आसीत्त्वैडिविडः श्रीमान् कृतशर्मा प्रतापवान्। पुत्रो विश्वमहत्तस्य पुत्रीकस्य व्यजायत ।। २६.
Vaiḍiviḍa was glorious, accomplished, and renowned for his prowess; Viśvamahat, son of Putrīka, was born to him.
दिलीपस्तस्य पुत्रोऽभूत् खट्वाङ्ग इति विश्रुतः। येन स्वर्गादिहागम्य मुहूर्त्तं प्राप्य जीवितम्। त्रयोऽभिसंहिता लोका बुद्ध्या सत्येन चैव हि ।। २६.
Dilīpa was his son, known as Khaṭvāṅga; he, coming from heaven to earth, attained life for a moment, and by wisdom and truth, united the three worlds.
दीर्गबाहुः सुतस्तस्य रघुस्तस्मादजायत। अजः पुत्रो रघोश्चापि तस्माज्जज्ञे स वीर्यवान्। राजा दशरथो नाम इक्ष्वाकुकुलनन्दनः ।। २६.
His son was Dīrghabāhu, from whom Raghū was born; Aja was Raghū's son, and from him was born the mighty king Daśaratha, delight of the Ikṣvāku lineage.
रामो दाशरथिर्वीरो धर्मज्ञो लोकविश्रुतः। भरतो लक्ष्मणश्चैव शत्रुघ्नश्च महाबलः ।। २६.
Rāma, son of Daśaratha, was a heroic, righteous man, famed in the world; Bharata, Lakṣmaṇa, and the mighty Śatrughna were his brothers.
माधवं लवणं हत्वा गत्वा मधुवनञ्च तत्। शत्रुघ्नेन पुरी तस्य मथुरा सन्निवेशिता ।। २६.
Having slain Mādhava and Lavaṇa, and gone to Madhuvana, Śatrughna established the city of Mathurā there.
सुबाहुः शूरसेनश्च शत्रुघ्नसहितावुभौ। पालयामासतुः सूनू वैदेह्यौ मथुरां पुरीम् ।। २६.
Subāhu and Śūrasena, together with Śatrughna, governed Mathurā, the city of the sons of Vaidehī.
अङ्गदश्चान्द्रकेतुश्च लक्ष्मणस्यात्मजावुभौ। हिमवत्पर्वताभ्याशे स्फीतौ जनपदौ तयोः ।। २६.
Aṅgada and Candraketu, both sons of Lakṣmaṇa, had prosperous lands near the Himavat mountains.
अङ्गदस्याङ्गदीया तु देशे कारपथे पुरी। चन्द्रकेतोस्तु मल्लस्य चन्द्रवक्ता पुरी शुभा ।। २६.
Aṅgada's city, Aṅgadī, was in the Kārapatha region; Candraketu's city, Candravaktā, was the splendid city of the Mallas.
भरतस्यात्मजौ वीरौ तक्षः पुष्कर एव च। गान्धारविषये सिद्धे तयोः पुर्यौ महात्मनोः ।। २६.
Bharata's sons, the heroes Takṣa and Puṣkara, had their cities in the Gandhāra region, both accomplished and great-souled.
तक्षस्य दिक्षु विख्याता रम्या तक्षशिला पुरी। पुष्करस्यापि वीरस्य विख्याता पुष्करावती ।। २६.
Takṣa's city, Takṣaśilā, is famed in all directions as beautiful; Puṣkara's city, Puṣkarāvatī, is also renowned.
गाथां चैवात्र गायन्ति ये पुराणविदो जताः। रामे निबद्धास्सत्त्वार्था माहात्म्यात्तस्य धीमतः ।। २६.
Here, those versed in the ancient lore sing a song, composed about Rāma, expressing his virtue and greatness.
श्यामो युवा लोहिताक्षो दीप्तास्यो मितभाषितः। आजानुबाहुः सुमुखः सिंहस्कन्धो महाभुजः ।। २६.
He was dark-complexioned, youthful, red-eyed, with a radiant face, sparing in speech, long-armed down to the knees, handsome-faced, lion-shouldered, and mighty-armed.
दशवर्षसहस्राणि रामो राज्यमकारयत्। ऋक्सामयजुषां घोषो ज्याघोषश्च महास्वनः ।। २६.
Rama ruled the kingdom for ten thousand years; the sound of the Rig, Sama, and Yajur Vedas, and the twang of the bowstring, resounded with great might.
अविच्छिन्नोऽभवद्राष्ट्रे दीयतां भुज्यतामिति। जनस्थाने वसन् कार्यं त्रिदशानाञ्चकारसः ।। २६.
There was no interruption in the land: 'Let it be given, let it be enjoyed,' was the order; dwelling in Janasthana, he fulfilled the tasks of the gods.
तमागस्कारिणं पूर्वं पौलस्त्यं मनुजर्षभः। सीतायाः पदमन्विच्छन् निजघान महायशाः ।। २६.
That illustrious bull among men, seeking Sita’s whereabouts, slew the earlier transgressor, the Paulastya.
सत्त्ववान् गुणसम्पन्नो दीप्यमानः स्व तेजसा। अतिसूर्यञ्च वह्निञ्च रामो दाशरथिर्बभौ ।। २६.
Endowed with virtue and qualities, shining with his own brilliance, Rama, son of Dasaratha, outshone even the sun and fire.
एवमेव महाबाहुरिक्ष्वाकुकुलनन्दनः । रावणं सगणं हत्वा दिवमाचक्रमे विभुः ।। २६.
Thus, the mighty-armed, delight of the Ikshvaku line, after slaying Ravana and his followers, ascended to heaven, the great one.
श्रीरामस्यात्मजो जज्ञे कुश इत्यभिधीयते। लवश्चान्यो महावीर्यस्तयोर्देशौ निबोधत ।। २६.
Kusha, so named, was born as the son of Shri Rama; Lava, another of great valor—listen to the lands of these two.
कुशस्य कोशला राज्यं पुरी वापि कुशस्थली। रम्या निवेशिता तेन विन्ध्यपर्वतसानुषु ।। २६.
Kusha’s kingdom was Kosala, and the city was Kushasthali, delightful and established by him on the slopes of the Vindhya mountains.
उत्तराकोशले राज्यं लवस्य च महात्मनः। श्रावस्ती लोकविख्याता कुशवंशं निबोधत ।। २६.
In northern Kosala was the kingdom of the great-souled Lava; Shravasti, renowned in the world—listen to the lineage of Kusha.
कुशस्य पुत्रो धर्मात्मा ह्यतिथिः सुप्रियातिथिः। अतिथेरपि विख्यातो निषधो नाम पार्थिवः ।। २६.
Kusha’s son was the righteous Atithi, a most welcome guest; Atithi’s famous son was the king named Nishadha.
निषधस्य नलः पुत्रो नभः पुत्रो नलस्य तु। नभसः पुण्डरीकस्तु क्षेमधन्वा ततः स्मृतः ।। २६.
Nishadha’s son was Nala, and Nala’s son was Nabha; Nabha’s son was Pundarika, and from him came Kshemadhanvan.
क्षेमधन्वसुतो राजा देवानीकः प्रतापवान्। आसीदहीनगुर्नाम देवानी कात्मजः प्रभुः ।। २६.
Kshemadhanvan’s son was the powerful king Devanika; his son was the lord named Ahinagu.
अहीनगोस्तु दायादः पारियात्रो महायशाः। दलस्तस्यात्मजश्चापि तस्माज्जज्ञे बलो नृपः ।। २६.
Ahinagu’s heir was the illustrious Pariyatra; his son was Dala, and from him was born the king Bala.
औङ्को नाम स धर्मात्मा बलपुत्रो बभूव ह। वज्रनाभः सुतस्तस्य शङ्खणस्तस्य चात्मजः ।। २६.
His righteous son, born of Bala, was named Aunko; his son was Vajranabha, and Shankhana was Vajranabha’s son.
