He obtained lordship over the ancestors and the office of world-guardian; Manu, the illustrious Sāvarṇi Prajāpati, as well.
That Manu, who is to come in the future Sāvarṇi Manvantara, even now wanders on the beautiful summit of Meru.
There, his brother Śanaiścara attained the status of a planet; Tvaṣṭṛ, by that form, fashioned Viṣṇu’s discus—great, irresistible in battle, a barrier against the Dānavas.
The younger of the two, renowned Yamunā, became the foremost of rivers, Yamunā, the sustainer of worlds.
Now I will tell in detail of the eldest, the mighty one, whose creation is current—the progeny of Manu Vaivasvata.

Sūta said: Then, when the Cākṣuṣa Manvantara had passed, along with the gods, the great sovereignty of the earth was entrusted to Vaivasvata.
I will now recount, in order, the lineage of the great-souled Vaivasvata; listen, O sages, as it is proclaimed.
Taking up the present creation of Manu Vaivasvata, there were nine sons born to that first Manu.
Ikṣvāku, Nahuṣa, Dhṛṣṭa, Śaryāti, Nariṣyanta, Prāṃśu, Nābhāga, Ariṣṭa, Karūṣa, and Pṛṣadhra—these nine are remembered as the sons of Manu.
Formerly, Manu, prompted by Brahmā, began to create; but his desire turned out fruitless.
Then, desiring a son, Prajapati performed a supreme sacrifice; into the portion of Mitra and Varuna, Manu offered the oblation.
There, adorned with divine garments and decorated with celestial ornaments, and equipped with heavenly armor, Ida was born—so it is declared in the tradition.
Then Manu, known as the bearer of the staff, addressed her, saying, 'I will follow you, O blessed one.' But Ida replied to him in return.
'This, O best of speakers, is what should be said in accordance with righteousness: I am born from the portion of Mitra and Varuna, O Prajapati who desires a son.'
'I will go to them; let not righteousness be destroyed for us.' Having spoken thus, the goddess again went to those two.
Having approached them, the noble lady, with joined palms, spoke: 'O gods, born in your portion, what shall I do?'
'I have been told by Manu himself, "Follow me."' Thus, as the virtuous one spoke, both of them took Ida under their protection.
And the two gods, Mitra and Varuna, spoke these words: 'By this humility and self-restraint of yours, O knower of righteousness—'
'And by truthfulness as well, O lovely-hipped one, and by your own devotion, O beautiful one, you, O greatly fortunate, will attain renown as our daughter.'
'He will be known as Sudyumna, honored in the three worlds, beloved of all, righteous in conduct, and the enhancer of Manu's lineage.'
That Sudyumna, born of Manu, assumed the form of a woman; and the goddess, having obtained her boon, returned to her father.
Having met Budha, she was invited to union; from Budha, the son of Soma, a son was born to her—Pururavas, of the Aila lineage.
Having given birth to Sudyumna from Budha, she returned again; and Sudyumna had three heirs, supremely righteous.
They were Utkala, Gaya, and also Vinatashva; Utkala's kingdom was Utkala, Vinatashva's was in the west, and Gaya, the royal sage, had the city of Gaya.
When Manu was thus established, the Sun, having created the people, divided this earth into ten regions.
Ikshvaku alone obtained ten heirs; but because Sudyumna was a woman, he did not obtain that share.
By the instruction of Vasistha, Pratishthana, of great splendor, was established—the city of the righteous king Sudyumna, the great-souled.
That illustrious one gave the kingdom to Pururavas, having attained it; and to the descendants of Manu, the greatly fortunate, regarding the mark of both woman and man—Sudyumna, the son of Manu, again became a woman.
