Then, in that Manvantara, when the gods have diminished, at the completion of the period of existence, they remain for one Krita Yuga.
New lords of the Manvantara arise, as do the gods, ancestors, seers, and Manu himself, for as long as the Manvantara lasts.
When a Manvantara is completed, whatever remains in the Kali age, whatever is accomplished among them, is considered to be the residue from previous ages.
Just as the progeny of those who acted in the Krita age are remembered by the wise as preceding Kali, so too, at the end of Manvantaras, the beginning of each new Manvantara is likewise regarded.
When the previous Manvantara has ended and the next begins anew, at the dawn of the Krita age, those who remain from before are then considered its survivors.
The Saptarishis, Manu, and those who remain steadfast, observing the passage of time, await the next Manvantara, enduring in their austerities until it is exhausted.
For the establishment of the Manvantara and for the continuation of progeny, all proceed as before, once the rains begin anew.
When dualities arise, when herbs are produced, and when creatures settle in their abodes, each in their own place, life resumes.
When livelihood resumes, when true dharma is fostered by the sages, and when the world becomes joyless, with all movable and immovable beings destroyed.
In villages and cities devoid of caste and stages of life, those righteous survivors from the previous Manvantara, including the Saptarishis and Manu, remain for the sake of progeny.
For the sake of progeny, those who practice austerity undergo the most difficult penances, and from them, all beings are born at the time of dissolution.
The gods, asuras, groups of ancestors, sages, Manus, serpents, spirits, pisachas, gandharvas, yakshas, and rakshasas are all included.
Then, those who remain among them, who uphold the conduct of survivors, namely the Saptarishis and Manu, at the beginning of the Manvantara, commence their actions together with humans and divine beings.
At the beginning of the Manvantara, and then at the start of the Treta age, the former gods remain, upholding dharma in its entirety.
The sages, through celibacy, attain freedom from debt; the ancestors, through progeny; and the gods, through worship.
For a hundred thousand years, they remain established in dharma characterized by varna; they uphold the threefold Veda, livelihood, law and order, dharma, castes, and stages of life, and after establishing the stages of life, they set their minds on heaven.
Previously, among the gods and those headed for heaven, the former gods remained, upholding dharma completely.
When the Manvantara has ended, abandoning all their positions, they ascend with mantras to the flawless Maharloka.
Freed from all transformations, established in mental perfection, they remain self-controlled, observing the dissolution of beings.
Then, when all these have passed, when the abodes of the gods are empty throughout the three worlds, other gods who dwell in heaven arrive here.
Then, endowed with austerity, they indeed fill the stations, accompanied by truth, celibacy, and learning.
The Seven Sages, Manu, and the gods together with the ancestors, are the endings here of the former and the future beginnings.
For them, the absolute interruption occurs here at the end of a Manvantara; thus, in succession, this unstable existence persists in all Manvantaras until the great dissolution arises.
Thus, the characteristic of the connection between Manvantaras, both past and future, has been declared by Svāyambhuva.
In the past Manvantaras, the means for those yet to come is thus absolutely interrupted by the great dissolution.
The cycles of the Manvantaras, entirely, reach the Maharloka; Maharloka, Janaloka, and Tapoloka, all go completely into Satyaloka.
There, for those destined, by perception and conviction of various views, those established in Satya remain here; then, when change comes at the time of re-creation, they depart.
The cycles of the Manvantaras are released at the end of Satya; then, through effort, they enter the immeasurable Narayana, the divine.
In the long-persisting cycles of Manvantaras, due to their nature as repositories, the world of living beings remains for a moment, being praised at both decline and rise.
Thus, having perceived these subsequent, divinely-sighted Manus, praised by sages of righteous soul, composed by Vayu, and seen through the power of Vyasa's concise arrangement.
