६२.१० प्रचेताश्चैव यो देवो विश्वेदेवास्तथैव च । समञ्जो विश्रुतो यश्च अजिह्मश्चारिमर्द्दनः
Pracetā, the god, and the Viśvedevas; Samañja, Viśruta, Yaśa, Ajihma, and Arimardana.
अजोषौ च महाभागौ यवीयश्च महाबलः
Ajoṣa and Mahābhāga, Yavīya the mighty.
होता यज्वाच इत्येते पराक्रान्ताः परावताः । इत्येता देवता ह्यासन्मनुस्वारोचिषेन्तरे
Hotā and Yajvā—these valiant Pārāvatas; these were the deities during the period of Svārociṣa Manu.
सोमपास्तु तदा ह्येताश्चतुर्विंशतिदेवताः । तेषामिन्द्रस्तदा ह्यासीद्वैधश्च लोकविश्रुतः
At that time, these twenty-four gods were Soma-drinkers; among them, Indra was known as Vaidha, renowned throughout the worlds.
ऊर्जौ वसिष्ठपुत्रस्तु स्तम्भः काश्यप एव च । भार्गवश्च तदा द्रोणो ऋषभोऽङ्गिरसस्तथा
Ūrja, son of Vasiṣṭha, Stambha, Kāśyapa, Bhārgava, Droṇa, Ṛṣabha, and Aṅgiras.
पौलस्त्यश्चैव दत्तात्रिरात्रेयो निश्चलस्तथा । पौलहस्य च धावांस्तु एते सप्तर्षयः स्मृताः
Paulastya, Dattātreya, Ātreya, Niścala, and Dhāvān, son of Paulastya—these are remembered as the seven sages.
बृहद्गुहो नवश्चैव सुताश्चैते नव स्मृताः
Bṛhadguha and Nava, and their nine sons—these nine are remembered.
मनोः स्वारोचिषस्यैते पुत्रा वंशकराः स्मृताः । पुराणे परिसङ्ख्याता द्वितीयं चैतदन्तरम्
These are the sons of Svārociṣa Manu, remembered as progenitors; they are enumerated in the Purāṇa as belonging to the second Manvantara.
सप्तर्षयो मनुर्देवाः पितरश्च चतुष्टयम् । मूलं मन्वन्तरस्यैते तेषां चैवान्तरे प्रजाः
The seven sages, Manu, the gods, and the four groups of ancestors—these are the roots of a Manvantara, and within them, the beings arise in succession.
ऋषीणां देवताः पुत्राः पितरो देवसूनवः । ऋषयो देवपुत्राश्च इति शास्त्रविनिश्चयः ॥२.१.
The sons of the sages are the deities, the ancestors are the sons of the gods; thus, sages and divine sons—this is the conclusion of the scriptures.
६२.२१ मनोः क्षत्रं विशश्चैव सप्तर्षिभ्यो द्विजातयः । एतन्मन्वन्तरं प्रोक्तं समासान्न तु विस्तरात्
The kṣatriyas and the people are from Manu, and the twice-born from the seven sages; this is called a Manvantara in brief, not in detail.
स्वायम्भुवेन विस्तारो ज्ञेयः स्वारोचिषस्य तु । न शक्यो विस्तरस्तस्य वक्तुं वर्षशतैरपि । पुनरुक्तबहुत्वात्तु प्रजानां वैकुले कुले
The expansion under Svāyambhuva is to be understood, and likewise for Svārociṣa; but the full extent of that cannot be told even in hundreds of years, because of the repeated abundance of beings in each lineage.
तृतीयस्त्वथ पर्याय औत्तमस्यान्तरे मनोः । पञ्च चैव गणाः प्रोक्तास्तान् वक्ष्यामि निबोधत
Now, in the third cycle, within the period of Uttama Manu, five groups are mentioned; I will declare them, listen attentively.
सुधामानश्च देवाश्च ये चान्ये वशवर्त्तिनः । प्रतर्द्दनाः शिवाः सत्या गणा द्वादश वै स्मृताः
Sudhāmāna and the gods, and others who are obedient; the Pratardanas, the Śivas, and the Satyas—these twelve groups are remembered.
सत्यो धृतिर्दमो दान्तः क्षमः क्षामो धृतिः शुचिः । ईषोर्जाश्च तथा ज्येष्ठो वपुष्मांश्चैव द्वादश । इत्येते नामभिः क्रान्ताः सुधामानस्तु द्वादश
Satya, Dhṛti, Dama, Dānta, Kṣama, Kṣāma, Dhṛti, Śuci, Īṣorja, Jyeṣṭha, Vapuṣmān—these twelve by name are known as the Sudhāmānas.
सहस्रधारो विश्वात्मा शमितारो बृहद्वसुः । विश्वधाविश्वकर्मा च मनस्वन्तो विराड्यशाः
Sahasradhāra, Viśvātmā, Śamitāra, Bṛhadvasu, Viśvadhā, Viśvakarmā, Manasvant, and Virāḍyaśa.
ज्योतिश्चैव विभाव्यश्च कीर्त्तिमान् वंशकारिणः । अन्यानाराधितो देवो वसुधिष्णो विवस्वसुः
Jyoti, Vibhāvya, Kīrtimān, Vaṃśakārin; the god Vasudhiṣṇa, Vivasvasu, and others who are worshipped.
दिनक्रतुः सुधर्मा च धृतवर्मा यशस्विनः । केतुमांश्चैव इत्येते कीर्तितास्तु प्रमर्द्दनाः
Dinakratu, Sudharmā, Dhṛtavarmā, the illustrious ones; Ketumān—these are named as the Pramardanas.
हंसस्वरोऽहिहा चैव प्रतर्द्दनयशस्करौ । सुदानो वसुदानश्च सुमञ्जसविषावुभौ
Haṃsasvara, Ahihā, Pratardana, Yaśaskara, Sudāna, Vasudāna, Sumañjasa, and Viṣāva—these two as well.
जन्तुवाहयतिश्चैव सुवित्तसुनयस्तथा । शिवा ह्येते तु विज्ञेया यज्ञिया द्वादशापराः ॥२.१.
Jantuvāha, Yati, Suvitta, Sunaya—these are the Śivas, to be known as the twelve others who are fit for sacrifice.
६२.३० सत्यानामपि नामानि निबोधत यथामतम् । दिक्पतिर्वाक्पतिश्चैव विश्वः शम्भुस्तथैव च
Now hear the names of the Satyas, as they are known: Dikpati, Vākpati, Viśva, Śambhu as well.
स्वमृडीकोऽधिपश्चैव वर्च्चोधा मुह्यसर्व्वशः । वासवश्च सदाश्वश्च क्षेमानन्दौ तथैव च
Svamṛḍīka, Adhipa, Varcchodhā, Muhyasarvaśa, Vāsava, Sadāśva, Kṣemānanda likewise.
सत्या ह्येते परिक्रान्ता यज्ञिया द्वादशापराः । इत्येते देवता ह्यासन्नौत्तमस्यान्तरे मनोः
These are the Satyas, twelve in number, fit for sacrifice; these deities existed in the period of Uttama Manu.
अजश्च परशुश्चैव दिव्यो दिव्यौषधिर्न्नयः । देवानुजश्चाप्रतिमो महोत्साहौशिजस्तथा
Aja, Paraśu, Divya, Divyauṣadhi, Naya, Devānuja, Apratima, Mahotsāha, Uśija as well.
विनीतश्च सुकेतुश्च सुमित्रः सुबलः शुचिः । औत्तमस्य मनोः पुत्रास्त्रयोदश महात्मनः । एते क्षत्रप्रणेतारस्तृतीयं चैतदन्तरम्
Vinīta, Suketu, Sumitra, Subala, Śuci—these are the thirteen sons of the great-souled Uttama Manu; they were the leaders of the kṣatriyas in this third interval.
औत्तमे परिसङ्ख्यातः सर्गः स्वारोचिषेण तु । विस्तरेणानुपूर्व्या च तामसस्तान्निबोधत
In the Uttama Manvantara, the creation is enumerated, and likewise in Svārociṣa; now hear in order the details of Tāmasa.
चतुर्थेत्वथ पर्याये तामसस्यान्तरे मनोः । सत्या स्वरूपाः सुधियो हरयश्चतुरो गणाः
Then, in the fourth cycle, within the interval of Tāmasa Manu, the Satyas, Svarūpas, Sudhis, and the four groups of Haris appeared.
पुलस्त्यपुत्रस्तु शीर्ष्यण्यास्तमश्चैवाष्टमस्तथा । इन्द्रियाणि तदा देवा मनोस्तस्यान्तरे स्मृताः
Pulastya's son was Śīrṣyaṇya, and Tama was the eighth; at that time, the gods known as the senses were remembered within the interval of that Manu.
इन्द्रियाणां शतं यद्धिमुनयः प्रतिजानते । सत्यप्राणास्तु शीर्ष्यण्यास्तमश्चैवाष्टमस्तथा । इन्द्रियाणि तदा देवा मनोस्तस्यान्तरे स्मृताः
The sages declare that there are a hundred senses; the Satyaprāṇas were of Śīrṣyaṇya, and Tama was the eighth; at that time, the gods known as the senses were remembered within the interval of that Manu.
तेषां च प्रभुदेवानां शिविरिन्द्रः प्रतापवान् । सप्तर्षयोऽन्तरे चैव तान्निबोधत सत्तमाः ॥२.१.
Among those lordly gods, Śivi was the powerful Indra; and within that interval, the seven sages—learn of them, O noble ones.
