That horn was divided into three parts, each situated separately.
O Devi, Vajrapāṇi took the tip of the horn and established it.
By the gods, the divine sages, the Siddhas, and the Brahmarshis as well,
That root was then established by Viṣṇu, with the sacred water of the gods.
There, on that very peak, the Blessed Lord abided in threefold form.
A hundred portions of himself were placed by him in the deer.
By that path, through that body, the Blessed and All-pervading One departed.
The division there is remembered as a hundredfold at that lord of mountains.
Then the preceptor of gods and demons worshipped the great lord of beings.
Gods, demons, Gandharvas, Siddhas, Yakṣas, and great serpents,
Having undertaken a pilgrimage, they performed circumambulation.
Then, having returned to their own places, the gods and others withdrew.
Then Paulastya, named Rāvaṇa, together with his brothers, the Rākṣasas,
With utmost devotion, served the imperishable Lord of Gokarṇa.
Then that Rākṣasa sought the boon of victory over the three worlds.
And having obtained his desire from the Supreme Lord, Daśagrīva,
He conquered the three worlds and Indra, the lord of the gods.
The summit, which was once carried away and set down by the wielder of the thunderbolt,
That, as long as Rāvaṇa placed it for a moment on the shore of the ocean,
When the Rākṣasa was unable to uproot it again by force,
That southern Gokarna, O wise one, should be understood thus.
All this has been explained to you in detail by me, O sage.
Of the southern region, O best of Brahmins, and likewise of Shringeśvara—
The great extent of the land and the origin of the sacred places—
Thus ends the two hundred sixteenth chapter, entitled 'The Greatness of Gokarna, Shringeśvara, and Others,' in the glorious Varaha Purana.
Now, the description of the merit gained from hearing the dialogue between the Earth and Varaha: All has been told exactly as it was by the supreme Lord.
Of the divine, all-pervading form of the Lord, of Sthanu, whose might is unmatched—
How his body and the horn were established in the holy land—
Tell me this in truth, O greatly fortunate one, Lord of the world. Pulastya will relate the rest, O great sage, whatever remains.
The certain results of all these sacred places—
