Varaha Purana

thumb|गौ दन्तेषु मरुतो देवा जिह्वायां तु सरस्वती

The Maruts dwell in the teeth, and Sarasvati in the tongue.

सर्वसन्धिषु साध्याश्च चन्द्रादित्यौ तु लोचने 206.

The Sadhyas reside in all the joints, and the moon and sun in the eyes.

अपाने सर्वतीर्थानि प्रस्रावे जाह्नवी नदी

All the sacred waters are in the lower breath, and the river Jahnavi in the flow.

ऋषयो रोमकूपेषु गोमये पद्मधारिणी

The sages are in the pores of the skin, and the lotus-bearer in cow dung.

धैर्यं धृतिश्च शान्तिश्च पुष्टिर्वृद्धिस्तथैव च

Courage, resolve, peace, nourishment, and growth as well.

विद्या शान्तिर्मतिश्चैव सन्ततिः परमा तथा

Where there are cows, there too are knowledge, peace, wisdom, and supreme prosperity.

यत्र गावो जगत्तत्र देवदेवपुरोगमाः

Wherever cows are found in the world, there also are the gods, led by the Lord of gods.

सर्वरूपेषु ता गावस्तिष्ठन्त्यभिमतास्तथा

In all forms, those beloved cows stand present as desired.

स्त्रियश्च पुरुषाश्चैव रक्षन्तश्च सुयन्त्रिताः

Both women and men, well-disciplined and protected, are there.

क्रीडन्ति विविधैर्भोगैर्भोगेषु च सहस्रशः

They delight in various enjoyments, enjoying pleasures by the thousands.

भक्ष्याणां विविधानां च भोजनानां च संचयात्

Because of the abundance of various foods and meals,

अपश्यन्विविधास्तत्र स्त्रियश्च शुभलोचना 206.

There, he saw many women with auspicious eyes.

उद्यानेषु तथा चान्या भवनेषु च पुण्यतः

Elsewhere, in gardens and in blessed houses, others were seen.

अहो सूत्रकृतं शिल्पमहोरत्नैरलंकृतम्

Ah, the craftsmanship wrought by threads, adorned with excellent jewels!

ततस्तु निखिलं सम्यग्दृष्ट्वा कर्म महोदयम्

Then, having seen all this great result of action in its entirety,

इति श्रीवराहपुराणे संसारचक्रे शुभकर्मफलोदयो नाम षडधिकद्विशततमोऽध्यायः

Thus, in the glorious Varaha Purana, the two hundred and sixth chapter is named 'The Arising of Auspicious Results from Good Deeds in the Cycle of Existence.'

अथ संसारचक्रपुरुष विलोभनप्रकरणम् इदमन्यन्महाभागान्नारदात्कलहप्रियात्

Now, the account of the delusion of the Person of the Cycle of Existence; this is another, O greatly fortunate one, from Narada, lover of quarrel.

तथा च पृच्छतस्तस्य पुरावृत्तं महात्मनः

And so, as he questioned him, the past deeds of that great soul were recounted.

यथा च जनको राजा कामान्दिव्यानवाप्तवान्

And how King Janaka obtained divine pleasures—

अयं तत्र महातेजा नारदो मुनिसत्तमः

There, the great and radiant sage Narada, foremost among sages—

तत्र राजाऽथ वेगेन तं दृष्ट्वा स्वयमागतम्

There, the king, seeing him arrive swiftly in person—

उवाच च महातेजाः सूर्यपुत्रः प्रतापवान्

And the radiant, mighty son of the Sun spoke—

सर्वज्ञः सर्वदशीं च सर्वधर्मविदां वरः

He who knows all, who sees all times, the best among knowers of all dharma—

वयं पूताश्च मेध्याश्च त्वां दृष्ट्वा ह्यागतं विभो

We are purified and sanctified upon seeing you arrive, O Lord.

यत्कार्यं येन वा कार्यं यद्वै मनसि वर्त्तते

Whatever task, by whomsoever, and whatever occupies your mind,

दुर्ल्लभं त्रिषु लोकेषु यच्च प्रियतरं तव 207.

That which is rare in the three worlds and dearest to you,

इति धर्मवचः श्रुत्वा नारदः प्राह धर्मवित्

Having heard these words of Dharma, Nārada, knower of Dharma, spoke.

नारद उवाच सत्येन तपसा क्षान्त्या धैर्येण च न संशयः

Nārada said: By truth, austerity, patience, and courage, there is no doubt.

भावज्ञश्च कृतज्ञश्च त्वदन्यो न हि विद्यते

No one besides you is both discerning of feelings and grateful for deeds.
