सौभाग्यपरमासक्ता नरा बीभत्सदर्शनाः
Men excessively attached to good fortune become repulsive in appearance.
शारीरं मानसं दुःखं प्राप्नुवन्ति नराधमाः
The lowest of men experience suffering both physical and mental.
अग्निक्षारनदीभ्यां तु प्राप्नुवन्ति न संशयः
They certainly encounter fire, caustic substances, and rivers—there is no doubt.
सर्वं च निखिलं कार्यं यन्मया समुदाहृतम् ।। 203.
All that has been declared by me is to be entirely accomplished.
इति श्रीवराहपुराणे पापसमूहानुक्रमो नाम त्र्यधिकद्विशततमोऽध्याय
Thus ends the two hundred and third chapter, called 'Enumeration of Groups of Sin,' in the glorious Varaha Purana.
अथ दूतप्रेषणवर्णनम् इदं चैवापरं तस्य वदतो हि मया श्रुतम्
Now, the description of sending messengers: I also heard this other account from him as he spoke.
दूरेऽसाविति किं कार्यं न क्षयोऽस्त्यस्य कर्मणः
He is far away—what should be done? There is no end to this action.
व्रीडितः किम्भवाञ्ज्ञातं किं तिष्ठति पराङ्मुखः
Is he ashamed? Has something been discovered? Why does he stand turned away?
गच्छ गच्छ पुनस्तत्र शीघ्रं चैनमिहानय
Go, go back there again quickly, and bring him here.
किं त्वं वदसि दुर्बुद्धे विवाहस्तस्य वर्त्तते
Why do you speak, O foolish one? His marriage is ongoing.
किं त्वं वदसि गर्ह्यं च मुहूर्त्तं परिपालय
Why do you speak what is blameworthy? Wait for a moment.
पतिव्रतेति साध्वीति रहस्यं भाषसे पुनः
You call her 'devoted to her husband,' 'virtuous,' and again you speak in secret.
आनीयते कथं ज्ञात्वा भोक्तुकामं कथं हरे
How is he brought, knowing he desires to enjoy? How, O Hari?
धार्मिका यूयमेवात्र अहमेको नृशंसवत्
You are all righteous here; I alone act cruelly.
शीघ्रं त्वं भव सर्पो हि व्याघ्रस्त्वं च सरीसृपः 204.
Quickly, you become a serpent, and you, a tiger; you, a reptile.
नरकानुगतस्त्वं हि व्याधिभूतः समाश्रयः ज्वरो भव महाघोरो जले ग्राहो दुरासदः
You have entered hell, afflicted by disease; become a terrible fever, a formidable crocodile in water.
वातव्याधिस्तथा घोरस्तथैव त्वं जलोदरः
Become a fierce wind-disease, and likewise, you become dropsy.
विभ्रमस्त्वं भवेच्छीघ्रं विष्टम्भश्च पुनर्भव
Become confusion quickly, and again become obstruction.
यथाकालं यथादृष्टं तावत्कालोऽत्र तिष्ठतु
Let the time remain here as is appropriate and as is seen.
यूयं च कृतकर्माणस्ततो मोक्षमवाप्स्यथ
And you, having performed your actions, will then attain liberation.
वराज्ञा धर्मराजस्य या मया समुदाहृता
The boon-command of Dharma's king which I have declared—
त्रिरात्रं वै चतूरात्रं षड्रात्रं दशरात्रकम्
Three nights, or four nights, six nights, or ten nights—
क्षपयित्वा यथाकालं ततो मोक्षमवाप्स्यथ
After passing the time as is appropriate, then you will attain liberation.
यस्मिन्यस्मिंस्तु कालेऽहं यावतश्च श्रयाम्यहम् 204.
At whatever time I am, and as long as I remain—
विनियोगा मया सूक्ता यथापूर्वं यथाश्रुतम्
The instructions have been given by me as before, just as they were heard.
यत्नात्तथा तु कर्त्तव्यं भवद्भिर्मम शासनात्
Therefore, you must act accordingly with effort, by my command.
तस्माद्यात ऋषिभ्यश्च स्त्रीभ्यश्चैव महाबलाः
Therefore, go to the sages and to the women, O mighty ones.
यथावाच्यं च कुरुत यथा कालो न गच्छति
Do what must be said, so that the proper time does not pass.
मयाज्ञप्ता विशेषेण मृत्युना सह सङ्गतः
I have especially instructed you, together with Mṛtyu.
यथाब्रवीत्स्वयं रुद्रो यथा शक्रः शचीपतिः
Just as Rudra himself has spoken, and as Śakra, lord of Śacī, has said.
