अपौगण्डो म्रियेत्पंच कर्मशेषक्षये तु सः 202.

But, before reaching adulthood, he dies when the residue of karma is exhausted.

पापस्य सुकृतस्याथ प्रजानां विनिपातने

In the destruction of beings, both sin and merit are involved.

अतः स्वयम्भुवा पूर्वं कर्मपाको यथार्थवत्

Thus, from the beginning, the ripening of karma occurs truly, as ordained by the Self-born.

इति श्रीवराहपुराणे संसारचक्रे नारकिदण्डकर्मविपाक वर्णनं नाम द्व्यधिकद्विशततमोऽध्यायः

Thus ends the two hundred and second chapter, entitled 'Description of the Results of Punishments for Hellish Deeds in the Cycle of Worldly Existence,' in the glorious Varaha Purana.

अथ पापसमूहानुक्रमवर्णनम् अन्यान्यपि च पापानि चित्रगुप्तो दिदेश ह

Now, the enumeration of groups of sins: Citragupta also described other sins.

शीलसंयमहीनानां कृष्णपक्षानुगामिनाम्

Those who lack virtue and self-control, who follow the path of darkness,

राजद्विष्टा गुरुद्विष्टाः सर्वे ते वै विगर्हिताः

Those who hate the king, who hate their teacher—all these are indeed condemned.

हिंसाविहारिणः क्रूराः सूचकाः कार्यदूषकाः

Those who delight in violence, who are cruel, slanderers, and corrupters of undertakings,

दावाग्निं ये च मुंचन्ति ये च सौकरिकास्तथा

Those who set forest fires, and likewise those who are butchers,

कर्मक्षयाद्यदा भूयो मानुष्यं प्राप्नुवन्ति ते

When their karmas are exhausted and they again obtain human birth,

गर्भ एव विपद्यन्ते म्रियन्ते बालकास्तथा

They perish even in the womb, and likewise die as children.

काष्ठवंशे च शस्त्रे च वायुना ज्वलनेन च

By falling from trees, by weapons, by wind, or by fire,

मातापितृवधं कष्टं मित्रसम्बन्धिबन्धुजम्

They suffer the grievous fate of killing mother, father, friend, relative, or kin.

प्राणातिपातनं ते वै प्राप्नुवन्ति यथा तथा 203.

They undergo the taking of life, just as described.

मूलकर्मकरा ये च गरदाः पुरदाहकाः

Those who are root-cutters, poisoners, arsonists,

पिशुनाः कलहाश्चैव ये च मिथ्याविदूषकाः

Slanderers, quarrel-mongers, and those who falsely accuse,

उद्वेजनकराश्चण्डाः पच्यन्ते नरकेषु ते

Those who cause distress and are fierce—they are cooked in hells.

कर्मक्षयो यदा भूयो मानुष्यं प्राप्नुवन्ति ते

When their karmas are exhausted and they again obtain human birth,

श्रवणच्छेदनं चैव नासाच्छेदनमेव च

They suffer the cutting off of ears and likewise the cutting off of the nose.

शारीरं मानसं दुःखं प्राप्नुवन्ति पुनःपुनः

They repeatedly experience bodily and mental suffering.

कुक्ष्यामयं तथा तीव्रं प्राप्नुवंति नराधमाः

Those most wicked among men suffer severe abdominal disease.

एकपक्षहताः काणाः कुनखाश्चामयाविनः

Those who are maimed in one wing, one-eyed, with deformed nails, and afflicted by disease,

गलत्कुष्ठाः श्वित्रकुष्ठा भवन्ति स्वैश्च कर्मभिः

Those with leprosy that causes flesh to fall away, those with white leprosy, are born according to their own deeds.

योनिशूलाक्षिशूलाश्च श्वास हृद्गुह्यशूलिनः 203.

Those with pain in the womb, pain in the eyes, those suffering from asthma, heart pain, and pain in the private parts,

बहुभिर्दारुणैर्घोरैर्व्याधिभिः समनुद्गताः

Are afflicted by many harsh and terrible diseases.

मिथ्याप्रलापिनो दूतान्पाचयन्तु यथाक्रमम्

Let the messengers punish, in due order, those who speak falsely.

एषां चतुर्विधा भाषा या मिथ्याप्यभिधीयते

There are four kinds of speech among them that are considered false.

अरहस्यं रहस्यं वा पैशुन्येन तु निन्दनात्

Whether a secret or not a secret, by slander and by reviling,

स्नेहक्षयकरां रूक्षां भिन्नवृत्तविभूषिताम्

Speech that destroys affection, is harsh, marked by broken conduct,
