Varaha Purana

सुवर्णस्तेयिनं चैव सुरापं चैव कारयेत् 202.

Let one inflict punishment upon the thief of gold and the drinker of liquor as well.

गोघातको ह्ययं पापः कूटशाल्मलिमारुहेत्

The killer of a cow, indeed, is sinful; let him ascend the tree of thorns.

पूतिपाकेषु पच्येत जन्तुभिः संप्रयोजितः

Let him be cooked in cauldrons of putrid decay, joined with creatures.

उद्विग्नवासं पतितं यत्र यत्रोपपद्यते

Let him dwell in distress, fallen wherever he may be born.

अयं तिष्ठति किं पापः पितृघाती दुरात्मवान्

Why does this wicked soul, the slayer of his father, remain here?

ततः पाकेषु घोरेषु पच्यतां च नराधमः

Then let this vile man be cooked in dreadful cauldrons.

व्यापन्नो दशगर्भेषु ततः पश्चाद्विमुच्यताम्

Having suffered in ten wombs, let him then be released afterwards.

बुभुक्षारुग्विकारैश्च सततं तत्र पीड्यताम्

Let him be tormented constantly there by hunger, disease, and afflictions.

यन्त्रेण पीड्यतां क्षिप्रं ततः पश्चाद्विमुच्यताम्

Let him be quickly tormented by the instrument, and then released afterwards.

जायतां च ततः पश्चाच्छूनां योनौ दुरात्मवान्

Then afterwards, let this wicked soul be born in the womb of a pig.

प्राप्तवान्विविधान्रोगान्संसारे चैव दारुणान् 202.

He acquires various harsh diseases in the world.

वर्षाणां तु शतं पंच तत्र क्लिष्टो दुरात्मवान्

For five hundred years, this wicked soul is tormented there.

शकुन्तो जायते घोरस्तत्र पश्चाद्वृको भवेत्

He is born as a fierce bird there, and afterwards becomes a wolf.

स्वकर्मसु विहीनेषु पश्चाल्लब्धगतिस्तथा

When deprived of his own actions, he later attains a new existence.

तत्रापि दारुणं दुःखमुपभुंक्ते दुरात्मवान्

Even there, this wicked soul experiences terrible suffering.

एवं कर्मसमायुक्तास्ते भवन्तु सहस्रशः

Thus, let those bound by actions be so, by the thousands.

कुम्भीपाकेषु निर्दग्धः पश्चाद्गर्दभतां गतः

Burned in the cauldrons of Kumbhipaka, afterwards he attains the state of a donkey.

प्राप्नोतु विविधांस्तापान्यथा हृतधनश्च सन्

Let him suffer various torments and become one whose wealth is lost.

मानुष्यं समनुप्राप्य चौरो भवति पापकृत्

Having attained human birth, he becomes a thief and doer of evil deeds.

वृक्षशाखावलम्बोऽत्र ह्यधःशीर्षः प्रजायते

Here, he is born hanging from a tree branch, with his head downward.

ततो वर्षशते पूर्णे मुच्यते स पुनः पुनः 202.

Then, after a full hundred years, he is released again and again.

पूर्वैश्च सूकरो भूत्वा नकुलो जायते पुनः

Having previously become a boar, he is then born again as a mongoose.

धिक्कृतः सर्वलोकेन कूटसाक्ष्यनृतव्रतः

Reviled by all people, he is one who gives false testimony and is devoted to lying.

इमं ह्यानृतिकं दुष्टं क्षेत्रहारकमेव च

Indeed, this wicked liar is also a land usurper.

कर्मण्येकैकशश्चायं स तु तिष्ठत्वयं पुनः

Let him remain for each and every deed, and let him stay again.

ततो जातीः स्मरेत्सर्वास्तिर्यग्योनिं समाश्रितः

Then, remembering all his previous births, he takes refuge in the wombs of animals.

सर्वकामविमुक्तस्तु सर्वदोषसमन्वितः

Deprived of all desires, yet endowed with every fault.

क्वचिन्मूकश्च काणश्च क्वचिद्व्याधिसमन्वितः

At times he is mute, at times one-eyed, and sometimes afflicted with disease.

जात्यन्तरसहस्राणि प्रयुतान्यर्बुदानि च

Thousands, tens of thousands, and crores of other births.
