वादित्रगीतस्वनतालयुक्ता गायन्ति नार्यः सहिताः सदा हि
Women always sing together there, accompanied by the rhythm of instruments and melodious songs.
कुर्वन्ति संहर्षमिव स्वनेन मनोज्ञरूपा दिवि देवतानाम्
With their delightful forms, they create joy for the gods in heaven through their melodious sounds.
प्रासादकुञ्जेषु विहार्यमाणा न तृप्तिमेवं बहु ताः प्रयान्ति
Enjoying themselves in the palace groves, those women never grow weary, no matter how much they indulge.
क्वचित् सुगन्धः प्रचचार भूयः प्रासादरोधं प्रविरूढमार्गः
At times, a sweet fragrance spreads, filling the palace corridors and flourishing pathways.
तथाऽपरे क्रीडनकाः सकान्ताः सुवर्णवेदीकृतसानुशोभाः
Elsewhere, others play with their beloveds, shining on golden platforms made for their enjoyment.
शक्यो विभागो न हि रम्यताया ह्यसौ दिनैर्वा बहुभिः प्रवक्तुम्
The extent of that delight cannot be described, not even in many days.
इति श्रीवराहपुराणे संसारचक्रे धर्मराजपुरवर्णनं नाम षण्णवत्यधिकशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the one hundred ninety-sixth chapter, called 'Description of the City of Dharmarāja in the Cycle of Existence,' in the glorious Varāha Purāṇa.
ऋषिपुत्र उवाच प्राकारेण परिक्षिप्तं प्रासादशत शोभितम्
The son of the sage said: Surrounded by a wall and adorned with hundreds of palaces,
समालिखदिवाकाशं प्रदीप्तमिव तेजसा
It appeared as if the sky itself had been dug open, blazing with radiance.
नानायन्त्रैः समाकीर्णं ज्वालामालासमायुतम्
It was filled with various instruments, encircled by garlands of flames.
प्रवेशस्तत्र तेषां हि विहितो धर्मदर्शिनाम्
There, an entrance was established for those who are observers of righteousness.
मानुषाणां सुकृतिनां प्रवेशस्तत्र निर्मितः
An entryway was made there for human beings who have performed good deeds.
आयसं गोपुरं तत्र दक्षिणं भीमदर्शनम्
There stands a southern iron gateway, terrifying to behold.
प्रवेशो हि ततस्तेन विहितो रविसूनुना
Through that, an entrance was arranged by the son of the Sun.
पापानां चैव सर्वेषां ये चान्ये घातकारकाः
And for all sinners, as well as others who are perpetrators of killing.
गोपुरं पश्चिमं तच्च दुर्निरीक्षं समन्ततः
There is also a western gateway, difficult to look upon from all sides.
दुष्कृतीनां प्रवेशार्थं यमेन विहितं स्वयम् 197.
That was established by Yama himself for the entry of evildoers.
सर्वरत्नमयी दिव्या वैवस्वतनियोजिता
A divine assembly hall, made entirely of all precious gems, was appointed by Vaivasvata.
जितक्रोधैरलुब्धैश्च वीतरागैस्तपस्विभिः
By those who have conquered anger, are free from greed, detached, and devoted to austerity.
सा सभा सर्वलोकस्य शुभस्यैवाशुभस्य च
That assembly is for all beings, both the virtuous and the wicked.
अनिर्वर्त्यं यथा कर्म शास्त्रदृष्टेन कर्मणा
As is the deed, so is the result, according to the action prescribed by scripture.
चिन्तयन्ति च कार्याणि सर्वलोकहिताय ते
And they consider all matters for the welfare of all beings.
ततः सर्वे च तत्सर्वं चिन्तयन्ति सुयन्त्रिताः
Then, all of them, well-governed, deliberate upon everything.
अत्रिरौद्दालकिश्चैव आपस्तम्बश्च वीर्यवान्
Atri, Raudrālaki, and the mighty Āpastamba,
शङ्खश्च लिखितश्चैव ह्यङ्गिरा भृगुरेव च
Śaṅkha, Likhita, Aṅgirā, and also Bhṛgu,
यमेन सहिताः सर्वे चिन्तयन्ति प्रतिक्रियाम्
All of them, together with Yama, consider the appropriate measures.
कुण्डलाभ्यां पिनद्धाभ्यामङ्गदाभ्यां महातपाः 197.
He, endowed with great austerity, was adorned with earrings and armlets.
तेजसा वचसा चैव दुर्निरीक्ष्यो महाबलः
By his brilliance and speech, that mighty one was difficult to behold.
तस्य पार्श्वे महादिव्या ऋषयो ब्रह्मवादिनः
At his side were exalted, divine sages, speakers of Brahman.
वेदार्थानां विचारज्ञाः सत्यधर्मपुरस्कृताः
They were knowers of the meaning of the Vedas, established in truth and righteousness.
