Likewise, those who slay a Brahmin, and those who betray trust, are sinners.
Those who defile maidens, and men devoted to wickedness,
Those who act as priests for Shudras, and twice-born ones who have become a disgrace,
A drinker of liquor, a Brahmin-killer, or a twice-born who slays a hero,
One who abandons his mother, or his father, or who forsakes his virtuous wife,
Those who steal houses or fields, and those who destroy bridges,
Those who are impure, merciless, sinful, violent, or breakers of vows,
A liar regarding land, or a twice-born who lives off the Veda,
Those who associate with all kinds of sinners, and those who harbor intense enmity,
One who steals another's wealth, or a man who kills a king,
Those who have abandoned service, and those wearing marks but engaged in evil deeds,
Those who sell temples, sacrificial grounds, or holy places,
And those men who falsely wear nails or hair,
One who, out of ignorance, neglects vows, or who is expelled from his order,
Quarrelsome, argumentative, harsh, and the lowest among men.
Women and men go to that place; listen to this, O pure ones.
I will indeed describe those places; hear, O best of twice-born. Thus, having heard his words, all the ascetics,
Asked the sage Naciketa, filled with wonder: 'Tell us everything as you have seen it, O best among the wise.'
What is the true nature of that Time by which all things are set in motion?
He restrains it then; and in the world of Brahma, he is the master.
There is no destruction of the body in that place, O ascetics.
One must indeed go to his side again and again.
Those who do not go there are those who practice charity and the Vedas.
O Brahmin, what is Raurava like? What is the form of Kūṭaśālmalī?
And what do they do, what do they practice there?
They do not attain firmness; those who are perfumed with those faults.
Though it should be understood, they do not comprehend the highest of virtues.
Not knowing the supreme, they delight in whose illusion?
Tell this, dear one, since you have seen it directly.
Thus ends the one hundred and ninety-fifth chapter, named 'Description of the Sins in the Realm of Yama in the Cycle of Samsara,' in the glorious Varaha Purana.
