Those who perform śrāddha, having satisfied the twice-born,
Even if they are in hell, they are released, and their satisfaction becomes inexhaustible.
Having followed the words of the Brahmins and given gifts according to ability,
A black bull should be given there, which destroys the sufferings of hell.
By this, the ancestors are satisfied for sixty thousand years.
If, O beautiful one, the mud is lifted by its horn,
Having lifted them, O lovely one, he goes to the realm of Soma.
For sixty thousand years and sixty hundred years.
This is the dharma of householders, accompanied by sons and grandsons.
Creatures such as ants and others, as well as moving beings and birds,
Thus, the householder stage is the root; dharma is established there.
On the lunar day or festival, those who indeed deliver their ancestors.
Not by sacrifices, charity, study, fasting, ablutions at sacred places, nor by offerings to the fire,
The ancestors departed there, those who had entered the bodies of Brahma and Vishnu.
Thus, in succession, O Earth, the ancestral deities dwelled there.
Then, these gods, with Indra at their head, do not know this.
Nor does Brahma know, who has emerged by my power of illusion.
Again, I shall speak of another matter concerning ancestral sacrifices, O beautiful one.
Having made the intention for the offering, and spread darbha grass upon the ground,
They are afflicted by indigestion, and are not consumed, O beautiful one.
They were seen by Soma, O lovely-hipped one, suffering from the indigestion caused by the deities.
Soma spoke: Thus, after Soma had spoken,
They said to Soma: Let our words be heard.
Those appointed at the śrāddha were satisfied by the ancestral offering.
Soma spoke: Together, let us go there, so that what is best may occur.
Thus addressed by Soma, the ancestral deities at that moment,
Seeing the divine Pitamaha, they quickly bowed down to the earth.
These ancestors, O god, afflicted by suffering and indigestion,
Just as things that are digested perish, so do likewise, O Pitamaha.
There, Brahma spoke these words to the lord of yogis.
