Varaha Purana

मन्त्रः- योऽसौ भवान्सर्वजनप्रवीरः सोमाग्नितेजाः सुमतिप्रधानः

Mantra: 'You are the illustrious one among all people, endowed with the brilliance of Soma and Agni, foremost in wisdom.'

प्रवर अयुतवराह जय जय वर्द्धस्व एवंरूपं ततः कृत्वा देवं नारायणं प्रभुम्

'O supreme, ten-thousandfold Varāha, victory, victory, may you increase! Having thus fashioned the form, establish the Lord Nārāyaṇa.'

ततो वै स्थापयेत्तत्र पूर्वाभिमुखमेव तु

Then, he should install it there, facing east.

शुक्लयज्ञोपवीती च कृत्वा वै दन्तधावनम्

Having put on a white sacred thread and brushed the teeth—

मन्त्रः – योऽसौ भवांस्तिष्ठति सर्वरूपं मायाबलं सर्वजगत्स्वरूपम्

Mantra: 'You, O Lord, abide as all forms, with the power of māyā, the very essence of the entire universe.'

करणधारणप्रवध्यमुदाहरणमपराजितमजरामर एवं तु स्थापनं कृत्वा शिलायां मम सुन्दरि 182.

'Bearer of implements, unconquered, ageless, immortal—having thus established the image in the stone, O beautiful one—'

यो मां संस्थापयेद्भूमे मम कर्मपरायणः

Whoever installs me, O Earth, devoted to my rites—

यावकं पायसं भुक्त्वा अहोरात्रं समापयेत्

Having eaten yāvaka and milk-rice, he should complete the rite over the course of a day and night.

पंचगव्यं च गन्धं च वारिणा सह मिश्रयेत्

He should mix pañcagavya and fragrance together with water.

गीतवादित्रघोषेण उत्सवं तत्र कारयेत्

One should conduct the festival there with the sound of singing and musical instruments.

ब्रह्माक्षरसहस्राणि पठतां ब्रह्मवादिनाम्

Let the reciters of Brahman chant thousands of syllables of the sacred Brahman.

आगमिष्याम्यहं देवि मन्त्रपाठो मम प्रियः

O Devi, I will come; the recitation of mantras is dear to me.

पुनरावाहनं कुर्यान्मन्त्रेणानेन सुव्रतः

The virtuous one should perform the re-invocation with this mantra.

एतेषु भूतेषु च संविधाता आवासितस्तिष्ठति लोकनाथ

Among these beings, the Lord of the worlds, the arranger, remains established.

अनेनैव तु मन्त्रेण समित्तिलघृतेन च

With this very mantra, and with samid and clarified butter,

एवं कृते विधाने भवामि सन्निहितः स्वयम् 182.

When the procedure is performed in this way, I become present myself.

पंचगव्यं तत प्राश्य मन्त्रेण विधिपूर्वकम्

Then, having consumed pañcagavya according to the prescribed rite with the mantra,

ततः प्रासादे स्थाप्योऽहं गीतवादित्रमङ्गलैः

After that, I should be installed in the temple with auspicious singing and music.

मन्त्रश्च - योऽसौ भवाँल्लक्षणलक्षितश्च लक्ष्म्या च युक्तः सततं पुराणः

Mantra: He who is marked by auspicious signs, always united with Lakshmi, ancient.

तत एतेन मन्त्रेण प्रासादं संप्रवेशयेत्

Then, with this mantra, one should bring the deity into the temple.

एवं संस्थापनं कृत्वा दद्यादुद्वर्त्तनं विभोः

Having thus performed the installation, one should offer the unction to the Lord.

एवं चोद्वर्त्तनं कृत्वा इमं मन्त्रमुदाहरेत् प्रवन्दितः कारणं मन्त्रयुक्तः सुस्वागतं तिष्ठ सुलोकनाथ

After performing the unction, one should recite this mantra: 'O Lord of good worlds, praised and welcomed, remain here, accompanied by mantra.'

एवं संस्थापनं कृत्वा गन्धमाल्यैश्च पूजयेत्

Having thus performed the installation, one should worship with fragrant substances and garlands.

मन्त्रः- वस्त्राणि देवेश गृहाण तानि मया सुभक्त्या रचितानि यानि

Mantra: O Lord of the gods, accept these garments, which I have made with devoted reverence.

एवं वस्त्राणि मे दद्याद्विधिदृष्टेन कर्मणा एवं च धूपनं दद्यादिमं मन्त्रमुदीरयेत्

Thus, one should give the garments to me according to the prescribed rite, and likewise offer incense, reciting this mantra.

मन्त्रः – असावनादिः पुरुषः पुराणो नारायणः सर्वजगत् प्रधानः 182.

Mantra: That primeval Person, ancient, Narayana, the chief of all worlds.

एवं पूजां ततः कृत्वा प्रापणं च निवेदयेत्

Having thus performed the worship, one should offer the food.

पूर्वोक्तेनैव मन्त्रेण दद्यात्प्रापणकं बुधः

He should offer the prāpaṇaka gift with the previously mentioned mantra.

शान्तिजापस्ततः कार्यः सर्वकार्यार्थसिद्धिदः बालेषु वृद्धेषु गवाङ्गणेषु कन्यासु शान्तिं च पतिव्रतासु

Then the recitation for peace should be performed, which grants success in all undertakings—peace for children, elders, among cows and in courtyards, for maidens, and for devoted wives.
