ततः सम्पूजयेद्देवि संसारभवमुक्तये 181.
Then, O goddess, one should worship for liberation from worldly existence.
कृत्वा तत्प्रतिमां चैव प्रतिष्ठाविधिनार्च्चयेत्
Having made that image, one should worship it according to the rite of installation.
कर्पूरं कुंकुमं चैव त्वचं चागुरुमेव च
Camphor, saffron, skin, and also aguru should be used.
एतैर्विलेपनं दद्यादर्चितस्तु विचक्षणः
With these, the wise person should offer anointment after worship.
विधानपूर्वकं चैव मंगल्यं चैव पायसम्
He should also offer auspicious rice pudding, prepared according to the prescribed method.
एवं सर्वं ततो दद्यात्पूजायां विहितं शुभम्
Thus, afterwards, he should give all the auspicious items prescribed for worship.
प्राणायामं ततः कृत्वा इमं मन्त्रमुदीरयेत्
Then, having performed prāṇāyāma, he should recite this mantra.
ससम्भ्रमं लोके सुप्रतीतस्तिष्ठ काष्ठे स त्वं भुवि
With reverence in the world, you stand firmly in wood, O you who are well established on earth.
पुनः प्रदक्षिणीकृत्य शुद्धैर्भागवतैः सह
Again, having circumambulated with pure devotees,
नोर्द्ध्वं न तिर्यगीक्षेत कामक्रोधविवर्जितः
He should not look upward or sideways, remaining free from desire and anger.
कुर्यात्संस्करणं तेषां विधिदृष्टेन कर्मणा ।। 181.
He should perform their consecration with the action prescribed by the rite.
मन्त्रः – योऽसौ भवान्सर्वजनप्रवीर गतिः प्रभुस्त्वं वससि ह्यमोघ
Mantra: ‘You, who are the foremost among all people, the refuge, the lord, you indeed dwell unfailing.’
सर्वामेवं ततः कृत्वा मम संस्थापनक्रियाम्
Having thus performed all these, carry out the rite of my installation.
गन्धमाल्यैरर्चयित्वा उपलेपैश्च भोजनैः
Worship with fragrant substances and flowers, with unguents and with food offerings.
एतत्कर्मविधानेन मधुकाष्ठस्य सुन्दरि
By this procedure, O beautiful one, regarding the wood of the madhuka tree—
यस्त्वनेन विधानेन अर्च्चां काष्ठस्य स्थापयेत्
Whoever establishes the worship of the wooden image by this method—
इति श्रीवराहपुराणे भगवच्छास्त्रे मधुकाष्ठायां प्रतिमार्च्चास्थापनं नाम एकाशीत्यधिकशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the one hundred and eighty-first chapter, entitled 'Establishing the Worship of the Madhuka Wood Image,' in the Divine Scripture of the Śrī Varāha Purāṇa.
अथ शैलार्च्चास्थापनम् पुनरन्यत्प्रवक्ष्यामि तच्छृणुष्व वसुन्धरे
Now, I will describe the installation of a stone image; listen to this, O Vasundharā.
सुरूपां च शिलां दृष्ट्वा निःशल्यां सुपरीक्षिताम्
Having found a well-formed stone, free from flaws and thoroughly examined—
शीघ्रमालिख्य तं तत्र श्वेतवर्तिकया नरः
A man should quickly inscribe upon it there, using a white marking stick.
दीपकं च ततो दद्याद्बलिं दध्योदनेन च
Then he should offer a lamp and an oblation of curd-rice.
मन्त्रः- योऽसौ भवान्सर्वजनप्रवीरः सोमाग्नितेजाः सुमतिप्रधानः
Mantra: 'You are the illustrious one among all people, endowed with the brilliance of Soma and Agni, foremost in wisdom.'
प्रवर अयुतवराह जय जय वर्द्धस्व एवंरूपं ततः कृत्वा देवं नारायणं प्रभुम्
'O supreme, ten-thousandfold Varāha, victory, victory, may you increase! Having thus fashioned the form, establish the Lord Nārāyaṇa.'
ततो वै स्थापयेत्तत्र पूर्वाभिमुखमेव तु
Then, he should install it there, facing east.
शुक्लयज्ञोपवीती च कृत्वा वै दन्तधावनम्
Having put on a white sacred thread and brushed the teeth—
मन्त्रः – योऽसौ भवांस्तिष्ठति सर्वरूपं मायाबलं सर्वजगत्स्वरूपम्
Mantra: 'You, O Lord, abide as all forms, with the power of māyā, the very essence of the entire universe.'
करणधारणप्रवध्यमुदाहरणमपराजितमजरामर एवं तु स्थापनं कृत्वा शिलायां मम सुन्दरि 182.
'Bearer of implements, unconquered, ageless, immortal—having thus established the image in the stone, O beautiful one—'
यो मां संस्थापयेद्भूमे मम कर्मपरायणः
Whoever installs me, O Earth, devoted to my rites—
यावकं पायसं भुक्त्वा अहोरात्रं समापयेत्
Having eaten yāvaka and milk-rice, he should complete the rite over the course of a day and night.
पंचगव्यं च गन्धं च वारिणा सह मिश्रयेत्
He should mix pañcagavya and fragrance together with water.
