By those who, having stolen or made holes, partake of the fruits of such gifts,
Those who observe the vow of silence return again, seeking some purpose.
The knower of the three times said: Until you are satisfied, remain steady, having seen—indeed, be firm.
Wait for that period of time until my return.
Therefore, today, abandoning my vow, filled with compassion for you,
With her, I shall perform the śrāddha according to the proper rite; the king, seeing the sage who had suddenly arrived nearby,
Fell to the ground, placing his feet upon his own head.
I shall always perform sacrifice whenever you come to my house.
Here is water for washing the feet, here is arghya, here is madhuparka, and here is this cow.
Having quickly accepted these, the sage promptly spoke.
Hearing that, do all that by which I became satisfied.
Tell me, what is that, as it should be done, by which this may be accomplished; bring here your queen, the one with a lovely face.
Her maid, of beautiful hips, renowned as Prabhāvatī,
Then the queen came there from the inner chambers, always accompanied by her maid.
When she was seated, the best of Brāhmaṇas addressed the one with a humble face.
Whatever ancestors there are in the world, established everywhere among all people,
There was one old man among them, surrounded by subtle beings.
Hopeless and desiring to depart, he again entered the impure hell.
By him, the action arising from my own deeds was offered to me.
And the servant of your maidservant is said to be her offspring.
Hearing this, the faultless-limbed woman hastened to bring her.
And she, always devoted to drinking and meat, was alone that day.
She was brought into the presence of the sage, seized by the servants by her hand.
Then the sage spoke to her regarding the rite, for the sake of certainty.
The offering of water to the ancestors, which grants supreme liberation, was not given.
I do not know my ancestors, nor indeed the rite to be performed, O Lord.
And the wife of the lord of Mathurā, along with the king and the noble citizens.
The king brought them to that holy place for the śrāddha, together with the sage.
There, that being was seen, but the offspring was unconscious.
Agastya said: Let her perform the offering of water here, according to the procedure previously described.
