नष्टा पृथ्वी न लभ्येत तस्माद्देवात्तु कोऽधिकः
When the earth is lost, it cannot be found; so who is greater than that god?
वराहः संस्थितः साक्षात्पुराणं येन सूचितम्
It is the Boar who is manifest, by whom the Purana was revealed.
तस्य सन्दर्शनादेव सर्वपापविवर्जितः 176.
By merely seeing it, one becomes free from all sins.
नवम्यां ज्येष्ठ शुक्लस्य स्नात्वा गङ्गोदके नरः
On the ninth day of the bright fortnight of Jyeshtha, if a man bathes in the waters of the Ganga,
दत्त्वा दानं यथाशक्ति सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते
and gives charity according to his ability, he is released from all sins.
द्वादशादित्यसङ्काशो विमाने च समास्थितः
He, shining like the twelve suns, ascends a celestial vehicle.
वराह उवाच पांचालसंज्ञकस्तत्र सुमन्तुं पर्यपृच्छत
Varaha said: There, one named Panchala approached Sumantu and asked,
अस्मद्गुरुः पिता त्वं च ब्रूहि किं करवाणि वै
"You are our teacher and father; tell me, what should I do?"
त्रिरात्रं कृच्छ्रपाराक चान्द्रायणमथापि वा
"Should I perform the three-night penance, the Kricchra, the Paraka, or the Chandrayana vow?"
आकाशभारती यत्तु तत्सत्यं नानृतं क्वचित्
"Whatever is prescribed in the Akasha-Bharati, that is true and never false."
दिनेदिने च स्नानात्प्राक् प्रतिगच्छति नित्यशः
"Each day, before bathing, he should go regularly."
तिष्ठोपरमितः पापाद्यावत्कालं च जीवसि
"Remain abstinent from sin as long as you live."
सगतिश्च विपापा च भविष्यति न संशयः एवं प्रभावस्तीर्थस्य मथुरायां वसुन्धरे ।।176.
"He will attain a good destination and be free from sin, without doubt. Such is the glory of this holy place in Mathura, O Earth."
कृष्णगंगोद्भवस्यापि तथा कालिञ्जरस्य च
So too is the greatness of the Krishna-Ganga and also of Kalinjar.
यः शृणोति वरारोहे श्रद्धया परया युतः
Whoever hears this, O beautiful one, with supreme faith,
सप्तजन्मकृतं पापं तस्य सर्वं व्यपोहति अमृतत्वं च लभते स्वर्गलोकं च गच्छति
all the sins accumulated over seven births are destroyed for him; he attains immortality and goes to the heavenly world.
इति श्रीवराहपुराणे कृष्णगंगोद्भवमाहात्म्यं नाम षट्सप्तत्यधिकशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the one hundred seventy-sixth chapter, named 'The Greatness of Krishna-Ganga,' in the glorious Varaha Purana.
श्रीवराह उवाच द्वारकां वसमानस्य साम्बशापादिकं शृणु
Sri Varaha said: Now hear about Samba's curse while he was living in Dvaraka.
सुखासीनस्य कृष्णस्य पुत्रदारसुतैः सह पाद्यमर्घ्यं चासनं च मधुपर्कं सभाजनम्
As Krishna sat comfortably with his sons, wives, and children, he was offered water for washing the feet, arghya, a seat, and honey-mixture in a vessel.
एकान्ते प्राप्य कृष्णं च विज्ञप्तिमकरोत्प्रभुः स्पृहणीयः सदा कान्तः स्त्रीजनस्य सुरेश्वरः
Having found Krishna alone, the lord made his request; he was always desirable and beloved by women, O lord of the gods.
एतास्तु वरनार्यो वै क्रीडार्थं हि सुरेश्वरः। देवयोन्यो ददुस्तुभ्यं सहस्राणि च षोडश
These noble maidens were given to you by the Lord of the gods, for the sake of play; and sixteen thousand of divine birth were bestowed upon you.
साम्बं दृष्ट्वा च सर्वासां क्षुभ्यते च मनः प्रभो
Upon seeing Sāmba, the minds of all of them are agitated, O Lord.
त्वत्प्रियार्थं समायातः कथितुं ते सुरोत्तम
For your pleasure, O best of the gods, I have come to tell you this.
क्रियातः स्वर्गवासोस्ति नरकस्तद्विपर्ययात्
By performing rites, one attains residence in heaven; by the opposite, one goes to hell.
यावत्स शब्दो भवति तावत्पुरुष उच्यते 177.
As long as there is speech, a person is so called.
नरके पुरुषः प्रोक्तो विपरीतो मनीषिभिः
In hell, a person is described by the wise as the opposite.
आसनेषूपविष्टानां तासां क्षोभं च तत्त्वतः
Of those seated on the seats, their agitation was indeed real.
तावत्सभ्यासनान्येव स्वास्तीर्य च विभागशः
For as long as the assembly seats remained, they were spread out separately.
पश्चात्साम्बः समायातस्तस्याग्रे करसंपुटम्
Afterwards, Sāmba arrived and, before him, joined his hands in reverence.
दृष्ट्वा रूपमतीवास्य साम्बस्यैव वरस्त्रियः
