On the thirteenth day at Naimisha and the fourteenth at Prayaga—
At these times, by bathing, a person is cleansed of all sin.
At Asikunda on the Sarasvati, and likewise at Kalinjara—
The Krishna-Ganga increases tenfold in merit day by day.
Both good and evil deeds are destroyed at Mathura.
The virtues and greatness of the holy places destroy even the gravest sins.
It is endless and immeasurable, and its limit is not known.
When it is dissolved, it cannot be perceived; what then can be said of that divine one?
When breath is dissolved, the wind is lost and cannot be seen.
Only traces, like a name or a mere semblance, are seen as before, like sweat.
When the earth is lost, it cannot be found; so who is greater than that god?
It is the Boar who is manifest, by whom the Purana was revealed.
By merely seeing it, one becomes free from all sins.
On the ninth day of the bright fortnight of Jyeshtha, if a man bathes in the waters of the Ganga,
and gives charity according to his ability, he is released from all sins.
He, shining like the twelve suns, ascends a celestial vehicle.
Varaha said: There, one named Panchala approached Sumantu and asked,
"You are our teacher and father; tell me, what should I do?"
"Should I perform the three-night penance, the Kricchra, the Paraka, or the Chandrayana vow?"
"Whatever is prescribed in the Akasha-Bharati, that is true and never false."
"Each day, before bathing, he should go regularly."
"Remain abstinent from sin as long as you live."
"He will attain a good destination and be free from sin, without doubt. Such is the glory of this holy place in Mathura, O Earth."
So too is the greatness of the Krishna-Ganga and also of Kalinjar.
Whoever hears this, O beautiful one, with supreme faith,
all the sins accumulated over seven births are destroyed for him; he attains immortality and goes to the heavenly world.
Thus ends the one hundred seventy-sixth chapter, named 'The Greatness of Krishna-Ganga,' in the glorious Varaha Purana.
Sri Varaha said: Now hear about Samba's curse while he was living in Dvaraka.
As Krishna sat comfortably with his sons, wives, and children, he was offered water for washing the feet, arghya, a seat, and honey-mixture in a vessel.
Having found Krishna alone, the lord made his request; he was always desirable and beloved by women, O lord of the gods.
