गोपानां तीर्थके चैव तथा वै मुक्तिकेश्वरे
Also at the holy place of the cowherds, and likewise at Muktikeśvara.
तीर्थान्येतानि पुण्यानि यथा विश्रान्तिसंज्ञकम्
These holy places are known as Viśrānti, the places of rest.
देवान्पितॄन् समभ्यर्च्य ततो देवं प्रसादयेत्
Having duly worshipped the gods and ancestors, one should then propitiate the deity.
मथुराक्रमणीयं मे सफलं स्यात्तवाज्ञया
By your command, my journey through Mathurā will be fruitful.
विश्रान्तिसंज्ञके स्नानं कृत्वा च पितृतर्पणम्
Having bathed at Viśrānti and offered oblations to the ancestors,
सुमङ्गलां ततो गच्छेद्यात्रासिद्धिं प्रसादयेत्
Then one should go to Sumaṅgalā and seek the fulfillment of the pilgrimage.
यात्रेयं त्वत्प्रसादेन सफला मे भवत्विति
May this pilgrimage be fruitful for me by your grace.
विश्रान्तस्तु परिक्रम्य त्रातस्तत्र महातपाः
Having circumambulated, the great ascetic rested there, protected.
स्वनाम्ना चिह्नितं स्थाप्य तदा यात्राफलं लभेत्
By establishing a mark with his own name, he then attains the fruit of the pilgrimage.
दृष्ट्वा गच्छेत्ततो देवीं या कृष्णेन विनिर्मिता 160.
After seeing this, one should proceed to the goddess created by Krishna.
सुखवासं च वरदं कृष्णस्याक्लिष्टकर्मणः
There is a dwelling of happiness and a granter of boons, belonging to Krishna of unwearied deeds.
स्वानुकूलः स्वरो यत्र प्रवेशे दक्षिणः स्वनः
Where the sound is favorable, and at the entrance there is an auspicious sound to the right.
भयार्तेन च कृष्णेन ध्याता देवी च चण्डिका
In his fear, Krishna meditated upon the goddess Caṇḍikā.
दृष्ट्वा सर्वार्त्तिहरणं यस्या देव्याः सुखी नरः
Having seen her, who removes all suffering, a man becomes happy.
कृष्णस्य कंसघातार्थं संभूता सा तथोत्तरे
She was manifested in the north by Krishna for the purpose of slaying Kaṃsa.
वज्राननं ततो ध्यात्वा कृष्णो मल्लजिघांसया
Then, desiring to defeat the wrestlers, Krishna meditated upon Vajrānana.
वाञ्छितार्थफलं चक्रे कृष्णेनास्य मनोरथान्
Krishna fulfilled his cherished desires with the fruit of his wishes.
उपयाचितं तु माङ्गल्यं सर्वपापहरं शुभम्
He requested auspiciousness, the remover of all sins and bringer of good fortune.
सूर्यं तं वरदं देवं माथुराणां कुलेश्वरम्
That sun, the boon-giving god, is the lord of the Mathurā clan.
एवं प्रदक्षिणं कृत्वा नवम्यां शुक्लकौमुदे 160.
Thus, having performed circumambulation on the ninth day of the bright fortnight of Kārtika.
क्रमतः पदविन्यासाद्यावन्तः सर्वतो दिशः
Step by step, as many directions as there are, in all quarters.
ब्रह्मघ्नश्च सुरापश्च चौरा भग्नव्रताश्च ये
Those who are slayers of Brahmins, drinkers of liquor, thieves, or breakers of vows—
मथुराक्रमणं कृत्वा विपाप्मानो भवन्ति ते
Having performed the circumambulation of Mathurā, they become free from sin.
तस्य सन्दर्शनादन्ये पूताः स्युर्विगतामयाः
By seeing him, others too become purified and free from disease.
सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तास्ते यान्ति परमं पदम्
Freed from all sins, they attain the supreme state.
इति श्रीवराहपुराणे मथुरा परिक्रमप्रादुर्भावो नाम षष्ट्यधिकशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the one hundred sixtieth chapter, named 'The Manifestation of the Mathurā Circumambulation,' in the glorious Varāha Purāṇa.
अथ देववनप्रभावः ये धर्मविमुखा मूढाः सर्वज्ञानविवर्जिताः
Now, the greatness of Devavana: Those who are deluded, turned away from righteousness, and devoid of all knowledge—
अभुक्त्वा नारकं दुःखं सुकृतैः पुण्यदैर्नृणाम्
Without experiencing the suffering of hell, through their virtuous deeds, humans—
श्रीवराह उवाच नरकार्त्तिहरा देवी मथुरा पापघातिनी
Śrī Varāha said: The goddess who removes the torment of hell, Mathurā, destroys sin.
मथुरावासिनो ये च तीर्थानां चोपसेवकाः
Those who dwell in Mathurā and those who serve the holy places—
