पितरस्तस्य तृप्यन्ति कोटिवर्षशतान्यलम्

His ancestors are satisfied for countless hundreds of millions of years.

मध्ये तु मरणं यस्य शक्रस्यैति सलोकताम्

If one dies in the midst there, he attains the same realm as Indra.

तद्वद्ब्रह्माणमाशास्य गोपीशस्यैव मध्यतः

Likewise, aspiring for Brahma's world, from the midst of the lord of cowherds.

नरस्तारयते पुंसां दश पूर्वान्दशापरान्

A man delivers ten ancestors before and ten after himself.

तत्राथ मुञ्चते प्राणान्मम लोकं स गच्छति

Then, when he relinquishes his life there, he goes to my world.

मथुरादक्षिणे पार्श्वे क्षेत्रं फाल्गुनकं तथा

On the southern side of Mathura is the Phālgunaka field.

तत्र फाल्गुनके चैव तीर्थे परमदुर्ल्लभे

There, at Phālgunaka, in that exceedingly rare holy place.

तत्राभिषेकं यः कुर्यात्स देवैः सह मोदते

Whoever performs consecration there rejoices together with the gods.

अस्ति तालवनं नाम धेनुकासुररक्षितम्

There is a place called Tālavana, guarded by the demon Dhenuka.

तत्र कुण्डं स्वच्छजलं नीलोत्पलविभूषितम् 157.

There is a pond with clear water, adorned with blue lotuses.

अस्ति संपीठकं नाम अस्मिन् क्षेत्रे परं मम

There is a place called Saṃpīṭhaka, which is supreme in this field of mine.

तत्र स्नानं च ये कुर्युरेकरात्रोषिता नराः

There, those men who perform bathing after staying for a single night,

अथात्र मुञ्चते प्राणान्मम लोकं स गच्छति

Then, upon departing from life there, he attains my world.

तत्र पुण्येन हि मया रविराराधितः शुभः

Indeed, by virtue there, I have worshipped the auspicious Sun.

तत्रैवं तु ततो दृष्टः पद्महस्तो दिवाकरः

There, thus, the Sun holding a lotus in his hand was seen.

सप्तम्यां कृष्णपक्षस्य रविस्तिष्ठति सर्वदा

On the seventh day of the dark fortnight, the Sun always remains there.

न तस्य दुर्ल्लभं लोके सर्वदाता दिवाकरः

For him, nothing is difficult to obtain in the world; the Sun always bestows everything.

नरो वाप्यथवा नारी प्राप्नोत्यविकलं फलम्

Whether man or woman, each attains the full result without fail.

आदित्यं तु पुरः स्थाप्य प्राप्तो भीष्मो महाबलः

Having placed the Sun before him, mighty Bhishma attained it.

तत्र स्नानेन दानेन वाञ्छितं फलमाप्नुयात् ।। 157.

There, through bathing and giving, one obtains the desired result.

इति श्रीवराहपुराणे मथुरामाहात्म्ये मलयार्जुनतीर्थादिस्नानादि प्रशंसा नाम सप्तपञ्चाशदधिकशततमोध्यायः

Thus ends the one hundred and fifty-seventh chapter, named 'Praise of Bathing and Other Acts at Malayarjuna and Other Sacred Places,' in the glorious Varaha Purana, concerning the greatness of Mathura.

अथ मथुरातीर्थप्रादुर्भावः विंशतिर्योजनानां तु माथुरं मम मण्डलम्

Now, the manifestation of the Mathura sacred places: My region of Mathura extends for twenty yojanas.

वर्षाकाले तु स्थातव्यं यच्च स्थानं तु हर्षदम्

In the rainy season, one should stay at that place which brings joy.

सप्तद्वीपेषु तीर्थानि पुण्यान्यायतनानि च

In the seven continents, there are sacred places and holy abodes.

सुप्तोत्थितं तु दृष्ट्वा मां मथुरायां वसुन्धरे

Seeing me, awakened from sleep, on the earth in Mathura,

सुप्तोत्थितं तु वसुधे दृष्ट्वा मे मुखपङ्कजम्

O Earth, seeing my lotus-like face awakened from sleep,

मथुरावासिनो लोकाः सर्वे ते मुक्तिभाजनाः

All the inhabitants of Mathura are recipients of liberation.

स्नात्वा पुनस्तु कालिन्द्यां मम लोके महीयते

Having bathed again in the Kalindi, one is honored in my world.

प्रदक्षिणीकृतो येन मथुरायां तु केशवः

By whomsoever Kesava is circumambulated in Mathura,
