विमलस्य च कुण्डे तु सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते
At the pure pond, one is freed from all sins.
पंचमं बकुलं नाम वनानामुत्तमं वनम्
The fifth is Bakula, the foremost among forests.
यमुनायाः परे पारे देवानामपि दुर्ल्लभम् 153.
On the farthest shore of the Yamunā, a place difficult even for the gods to attain,
तत्र गत्वा तु वसुधे मद्भक्तो मत्परायणः
There, O Earth, my devotee who is wholly devoted to me, having gone,
सप्तमं तु वनं भूमे खादिरं लोकविश्रुतम्
The seventh forest, renowned among people, is the Khādira forest, O Earth.
महावनं चाष्टमं तु सदैव तु मम प्रियम्
And the eighth is the great forest, which is always especially dear to me.
लोहजङ्घवनं नाम लोहजङ्घेन रक्षितम्
The forest named Lohajaṅgha, protected by Lohajaṅgha,
वनं बिल्ववनं नाम दशमं देवपूजितम्
The tenth forest is called Bilva forest, worshipped by the gods.
एकादशं तु भाण्डीरं योगिनः प्रियमुत्तमम्
The eleventh is Bhāṇḍīra, most excellent and beloved of yogis.
भाण्डीरं तमनुप्राप्य वनानां वनमुत्तमम्
Having reached Bhāṇḍīra, the foremost of all forests,
वृन्दावनं द्वादशकं वृन्दया परिरक्षितम्
The twelfth is Vṛndāvana, protected by Vṛndā.
वृन्दावनं च गोविन्दं ये पश्यन्ति वसुन्धरे
O Earth, those who see Vṛndāvana and Govinda,
इति श्रीवराहपुराणे भगवच्छास्त्रे मथुरामाहात्म्ये मथुरातीर्थमाहात्म्यं नाम त्रिपंचाशदधिकशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Varāha Purāṇa, in the divine scripture, in the greatness of Mathurā, this is the one hundred and fifty-third chapter, entitled 'The Greatness of the Mathurā Tīrtha.'
अथ यमुनातीर्थप्रभावः एवंविधां च मथुरां दृष्ट्वा तौ मुदमापतुः
Now, the glory of the Yamunā tīrtha: Having seen Mathurā in this way, they both became filled with joy.
पप्रच्छ च तदा भार्या यद्गुह्यं पूर्वभाषितम्
Then his wife asked him about the secret that had been spoken before.
राजाप्युवाच तां राज्ञीं त्वयाप्युक्तं पुरा मम
And the king said to the queen, 'You too once told me—'
तद्वदस्व स्वकं गुह्यं पश्चाद्वक्ष्याम्यहं तव
'Tell me your secret, and afterwards I will tell you mine.'
प्रोवाच चैव राजानं मनसः प्रीतिकारणम्
And she spoke to the king the cause of her heart's delight.
आगतेमां पुरीं द्रष्टुं कुमुदस्य तु द्वादशीम्
'I came to see this city on the twelfth day of Kumuda.'
सद्यः प्राणैर्वियुक्ता च तत्तीर्थस्य प्रभावतः
'And immediately, by the power of that tīrtha, I was separated from my life-breath.'
त्वया विवाहिता राजन्न च मां विजहात्स्मृतिः
O King, though you married me, memory never abandoned me.
धारापतनके तीर्थे त्यक्त्वा जीवितमात्मनः
At the holy place Dhārāpatanaka, she gave up her own life.
स्वां चाप्यकथयत्तस्यै यथा संयमने मृतः 154.
She also told her own story to her, how he had died in Yama’s realm.
मां पश्यन्तौ नियमतस्तत्रैव निधनं गतौ
While they were looking at me, both died there by destiny.
एतत्ते कथितं देवि आश्चर्यं यदभून्महत्
O Devi, this great and wondrous event has been told to you.
नाकलोकमवाप्नोति त्यक्तपापो न संशयः
One who has abandoned sin surely attains not the world of the ancestors.
विष्णुलोकमवाप्नोति दिव्यमूर्तिश्चतुर्भुजः
He attains the world of Vishnu, with a divine form and four arms.
अथात्र मुंचते प्राणान्मम लोकं स गच्छति
And here, when he gives up his life, he goes to my world.
यत्र स्नात्वा दिवं यान्ति ये मृतास्तेऽपुनर्भवाः
Where, having bathed, those who have died go to heaven and do not return.
अथाऽत्र मुंचते प्राणान्मम लोकं स गच्छति
And here, when he gives up his life, he goes to my world.
