ततः कालेन महता पंचत्वं समुपागतः
After a long time, he reached the state of death.
तस्मिन् वरगृहे देवि ब्राह्मणो योगिनां वरः 152.
O Devi, in that splendid house was a Brāhmaṇa, foremost among yogis.
तत्तीर्थस्य प्रभावेण जाता मुक्तिः सुदुर्ल्लभा
By the power of that holy place, liberation, so rare, was attained.
वैरोचनेन बलिना सूर्यस्त्वाराधितः पुरा
Once, the mighty Vairochana worshipped the Sun.
ऊर्द्ध्वबाहुर्निराहारस्तताप परमं तपः
With arms raised and fasting, he performed supreme austerity.
तस्य प्रसन्नो भगवान् द्युमणिः प्रत्यभाषत
The blessed Lord, the radiant Sun, pleased, spoke to him.
बलिरुवाच वित्तेनापि विहीनस्य कुटुम्बभरणं कृतः
Bali said: Even lacking wealth, I have supported my family.
मुकुटात्तस्य वै सूर्यो ददौ चिन्तामणिं ततः
Then, from his crown, the Sun gave him a wish-fulfilling gem.
तस्मिंस्तीर्थे नरः स्नातः सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते
A man who bathes at that holy place is freed from all sins.
आदित्याहनि संक्रान्तौ ग्रहणे चन्द्रसूर्ययोः
On the day of the sun, at the time of the solstice, or during an eclipse of the moon or sun,
ध्रुवेण यत्र सन्तप्तं स्वेच्छया परमं तपः
Where, by one's own will, the highest austerity is performed with intense discipline,
तत्राथ मुञ्चते प्राणान्मम लोके महीयते 152.
There, if one gives up life, he is honored in my world.
पितॄंस्तारयते सर्वं पितृपक्षे विशेषतः
He uplifts all his ancestors, especially during the fortnight of the ancestors.
तस्मिन् स्नाते नरो देवि मम लोकं प्रपद्यते
O Devi, a man who bathes there attains my world.
तत्र स्नातो नरो देवि ऋषिलोकं प्रपद्यते
O Devi, a man who bathes there attains the world of the sages.
दक्षिणे ऋषितीर्थस्य मोक्षतीर्थं परं मम
To the south of the Sage's Ford is my supreme Moksha Ford.
तत्र वै कोटितीर्थं हि देवानामपि दुर्ल्लभम्
There indeed is Koti Ford, which is difficult to attain even for the gods.
कोटितीर्थे नरः स्नात्वा सन्तर्प्य पितृदेवताः
Having bathed at Koti Ford and satisfied the ancestors and deities,
कोटितीर्थे नरः स्नात्वा ब्रह्मलोके महीयते
A man who bathes at Koti Ford is honored in the world of Brahma.
पिण्डदानात्तु तत्रैव पितृलोके स गच्छति तत्फलं लभते देवि ज्येष्ठे दानान्न संशयः
By offering oblations there, he goes to the world of the ancestors; O Devi, he obtains that fruit, especially by giving gifts in the month of Jyeshtha, without doubt.
द्वादशैतानि तीर्थानि देवानां दुर्ल्लभानि च
These twelve fords are difficult to attain even for the gods.
येषां स्मरणमात्रेण सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते 152.
By merely remembering them, one is freed from all sins.
इति श्रीवराहपुराणे मथुरामाहात्म्ये मथुरातीर्थप्रशंसा नाम द्वापंचाशदधिकशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the one hundred and fifty-second chapter, named 'The Praise of the Fords of Mathura,' in the section on the greatness of Mathura in the glorious Varaha Purana.
अथ मथुरातीर्थमाहात्म्यम् उत्तरे शिवकुण्डाच्च तीर्थानां नवकं स्मृतम्
Now, the greatness of the Mathura fords: to the north of Shiva-kunda, nine fords are remembered.
तत्रैव स्नानमात्रेण सौभाग्यं जायते परम्
By merely bathing there, supreme good fortune arises.
तस्मिन् स्नातो नरो देवि मम लोके प्रपद्यते
O Devi, a man who bathes there attains my world.
तत्र स्नातो मृतो वापि मम लोकं स गच्छति
There, one who bathes or dies surely attains my world.
तस्मिन् संयमने तीर्थे यद्यद्वृत्तं पुरातनम्
Whatever ancient deeds occurred at that sacred place of restraint,
वसते नैमिषारण्ये सुप्रतीतेऽतिपापकृत्
Even one who has committed great sins, dwelling in the renowned Naimisha forest,
तत्र प्राप्य च कालिन्दीं कृष्णपक्षे चतुर्दशीम्
There, having reached the Yamuna on the fourteenth day of the dark fortnight,
