Śrī Varāha said: "In the Dvāpara age, O beautiful one, where I shall abide,
then by the immortals, by Brahmā and others, and by many mantra-knowers,
Then, O goddess, Nārada, Asita, and Devala named me there.
Thereupon, on the mountain Maṇipūra, they gave me that name.
O auspicious one, thus I have told you the etymology.
O goddess, thus I have described the greatness of this praised mountain.
These are my secret matters, O Earth, on that mountain of beings.
O auspicious one, thus I have told you this, the foundation of all dharmas.
Thus ends the one hundred and forty-eighth chapter, named 'The Greatness of the Praised Lord,' in the holy Varāha Purāṇa, the scripture of the Blessed One.
Now, the greatness of Dvārakā: Having heard the greatness of the praised Lord, those devoted to dharma—
Dharaṇī said: Supreme and unsurpassed peace has arisen in my mind.
He who wields the sword with a sharp edge, who destroys the enemies of the gods, is the supporter of the earth.
Thus have I heard, in this way, the virtues and greatness of the praised Lord.
Śrī Varāha said: I shall tell you another secret, which removes the fear of sin.
When the Dvāpara age arrived, the foremost of the Yādavas—
There, a city became established, renowned as Dvārakā.
It was five yojanas wide and ten yojanas long.
Having removed the burden of the earth, he became greatly beloved by the gods.
O beautiful one, there will be a lord, equal to me, O Varārohe.
O Earth, because of the torment from a curse, the inhabitants of Dvārakā—
He, bearing a garland of forest flowers and wielding a plough, shone with the radiance of the pale moon.
Hearing the words of Nārāyaṇa, the Earth, devoted to righteousness, desired their fulfillment.
The Earth said: How will Durvāsas pronounce that curse there? Tell me this.
Śrī Varāha said: Endowed with beauty and youth, and enjoying pleasures with me,
Her illustrious son, filled with pride in his beauty and youth,
While he was sporting thus, he caused a pregnancy through improper conduct.
O child, you desire a son; O sage, tell me about this.
Then he said: From your womb will come forth a pestle, the destroyer of your lineage.
Hearing the curse of Durvāsas, all those boys—
Then, seeing those boys who had come, I questioned them.
