धूते पापे च सुश्रोणि धारा च पतति क्षितौ
When his sins are washed away, O lovely-hipped one, the stream descends to the earth.
धूतपापं न प्रविशेत्प्रविशत्यमले नरे
One whose sins are cleansed does not enter; only the pure man enters.
यत्र तिष्ठाम्यहं देवि पश्चिमां दिशमाश्रितः
There, O goddess, I reside, established in the western direction.
मम चैव प्रभावेण सर्वकालफलोदयम्
And by my own power, there is the arising of fruits at all times.
भक्तं भागवतं शुद्धं मम कर्मव्यवस्थितम्
A devotee, a pure Bhāgavata, devoted to my prescribed actions,
तत्र गत्वा वरारोहे उदिते च दिवाकरे 148.
having gone there, O beautiful one, at sunrise,
एकचित्तेन गन्तव्यं धृतिं कृत्वा सुपुष्कलाम्
one should go with single-mindedness, having gathered abundant resolve.
पंचरात्रेण लभते तस्मिन्भूतगिरौ मम
In five nights, he obtains (the fruit) on that mountain of mine.
पुनर्नारायणं तत्र प्रोवाच विनयान्विता
Then again, Nārāyaṇa was addressed there by her, full of humility.
एतन्नामनिरुक्तिं त्वं वक्तुमर्हसि साम्प्रतम्
"You ought now to declare the etymology of this name."
श्रीवराह उवाच द्वापरे युगमासाद्य यत्र स्थास्यामि सुन्दरि
Śrī Varāha said: "In the Dvāpara age, O beautiful one, where I shall abide,
ततोऽमरैश्च ब्रह्माद्यैर्बहुभिर्मन्त्रवादिभिः
then by the immortals, by Brahmā and others, and by many mantra-knowers,
ततो मां नारदो देवि असितो देवलस्तथा
Then, O goddess, Nārada, Asita, and Devala named me there.
नाम कुर्वन्ति मे तत्र मणिपूरगिरौ ततः
Thereupon, on the mountain Maṇipūra, they gave me that name.
एतत्ते कथितं भद्रे निरुक्तिकरणं मया
O auspicious one, thus I have told you the etymology.
एतत्स्तुतगिरेर्देवि माहात्म्यं कथितं मया 148.
O goddess, thus I have described the greatness of this praised mountain.
एतानि भूमे गुह्यानि तत्र भूतगिरौ मम
These are my secret matters, O Earth, on that mountain of beings.
एतत्ते कथितं भद्रे सर्वधर्मव्यपाश्रयम्
O auspicious one, thus I have told you this, the foundation of all dharmas.
इति श्रीवराहपुराणे भगवच्छास्त्रे स्तुतस्वामिमाहात्म्यं नामाष्टचत्वारिंशदधिकशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the one hundred and forty-eighth chapter, named 'The Greatness of the Praised Lord,' in the holy Varāha Purāṇa, the scripture of the Blessed One.
अथ द्वारकामाहात्म्यम् श्रीस्तुतस्वामिमाहात्म्यं श्रुत्वा धर्मपरायणा
Now, the greatness of Dvārakā: Having heard the greatness of the praised Lord, those devoted to dharma—
धरण्युवाच मम चित्तस्य परमा जाता शान्तिरनुत्तमा
Dharaṇī said: Supreme and unsurpassed peace has arisen in my mind.
नाराचधारावरणासिधारी सुररिपुवधकारी धरणीधरः
He who wields the sword with a sharp edge, who destroys the enemies of the gods, is the supporter of the earth.
एवं हि गुणमाहात्म्यं स्तुतस्वामिनि मच्छ्रुतम्
Thus have I heard, in this way, the virtues and greatness of the praised Lord.
श्रीवराह उवाच कथयिष्यामि चान्यत्ते गुह्यं पापभयापहम्
Śrī Varāha said: I shall tell you another secret, which removes the fear of sin.
द्वापरं युगमासाद्य यादवानां कुलोद्वहः
When the Dvāpara age arrived, the foremost of the Yādavas—
द्वारकेति च विख्याता पुरी तत्र स्थिताऽभवत्
There, a city became established, renowned as Dvārakā.
पंचयोजनविस्तारा दशयोजनमायता
It was five yojanas wide and ten yojanas long.
भारावतरणं कृत्वा देवानां सुमहत्प्रियम्
Having removed the burden of the earth, he became greatly beloved by the gods.
भविष्यति वरारोहे ईश्वरः सदृशो मम 149.
O beautiful one, there will be a lord, equal to me, O Varārohe.
तस्य शापाभिसन्तापाद्द्वारकावासिनो धरे
O Earth, because of the torment from a curse, the inhabitants of Dvārakā—
