There, the mantra is: 'O goddess, origin, hidden, endless, middle, menstruating, O divine one, we bow to you.'
Then, O Earth, menstruating women are purified by this mantra.
Thus, O goddess, neither woman nor man is defiled.
All, every day, O auspicious one, follow my mind.
Then, becoming of one mind, O Earth, through restraint of the senses—
Those who always act thus—women, men, and the neuter—
Even today, men immersed in worldly existence do not know me.
Thousands of mothers and fathers, and hundreds of sons and wives—
The world is veiled by ignorance and is overpowered by delusion.
The mother goes one way, and indeed the father goes another.
Beings are born in their own places, arising from their respective actions.
And indeed, it is only for a short time—be it a month or a year.
O Earth, for whom all this is known—the entire discipline of renunciation—
Whoever, rising early, listens to this daily, O human—
This, O blessed one, is the supreme and great secret that has been told to you.
Thus, in the Śrī Varāha Purāṇa, in the divine scripture, is the one hundred forty-second chapter entitled 'The Greatness of Secret Rites.'
Now, I will again describe the glory of Mandāra; listen attentively, O beautiful one, to this other account.
On the southern bank of the Jāhnavī, situated on the slope of the Vindhya,
There, in the Tretā Yuga, O Earth, was Rāma by name, of great splendor.
Having heard from the mouth of Nārāyaṇa, O Earth, desirous of righteousness,
Earth said: 'Mandāra has been spoken of by you, endowed with divine righteousness and purpose.'
What actions do people perform at Mandāra, and what results from them?
What are the secrets at Mandāra, and what is the mystery there?
Śrī Varāha said: 'I shall tell you the secret, the great rite of Mandāra.'
At that time, I was playing there at Mandāra, when it was in bloom.
Then, as I was on Mandāra mountain, a thought arose in me.
And on the Vindhya, by my power, there is also the Mandara, the great tree.
A most delightful and charming place is the stone surface there.
Hear of a marvel, O lovely-hipped one, concerning this great Mandara tree.
There, at midday, it is beheld by people.
