He who is always engaged in meditation and yoga attains the fruit of liberation.
He who realizes the self attains the supreme state.
Thus, in the glorious Varaha Purana, in the divine scripture, ends the one hundred and forty-first chapter, entitled 'The Description of the Greatness of Badarika Ashrama.'
Now, the greatness of the secret rite: Then, having heard the words of the gods, the earth, desiring righteousness—
The Earth said: With my gentle nature, I will speak to you, O Janardana.
Women are weak in life-force and strength, as you have described.
Men here, while eating, indeed attain the highest bliss through rajas.
Hearing those words of Madhavi, Mādhava then—
Śrī Varāha said: I have been asked about the supreme secret, which brings happiness to my devotees.
O goddess, she who is touched by rajas and devoted to my actions—
If there is such a state, then in eating or sustaining the body—
She does not incur fault, even if she eats while menstruating.
I bow to the ancient, beginningless, endless, unborn, divine Lord; whatever actions a menstruating woman performs, she is never defiled by them.
After bathing, O highly fortunate one, on the fifth day again—
She performs her duties as appropriate, with her mind fixed on me, devoted to me.
The Earth said: How are they freed from fault and from the bondage of birth and worldly existence?
Śrī Varāha said: Through the yoga of renunciation in me, one who is devoted to my actions—
With a single-pointed mind, firm in vow, having renunciation in my yogas—
Or, if one desires the highest state, through the yoga of knowledge and renunciation—
Mind, intellect, and consciousness are not under the control of embodied beings.
Those who approach with an even mind are not tainted, O humans.
If the mind is equal in me, then for him there is no action.
Whatever action one performs is like a lotus leaf in water.
Whether by night or day, for a moment, an instant, or even a fraction of time,
Always, by day and night, performing various kinds of actions,
Whether awake or asleep, whether hearing or seeing,
Even a wicked outcaste or a Brahmin who has strayed from the path,
Those who perform sacrifices, who know all duties, refined by knowledge and discipline,
Those who perform my actions, taking refuge in me within their hearts,
Those whose minds are truly at peace, O Devi, they too are dear to me.
