There is a most secret place of mine called Pañcaśira.
There, indeed, are five pools at the summit of the great-headed rock.
Among them, the middle pool is distinctly marked by the self-born one.
Whoever bathes there, having fasted for five nights, O woman,
In the same way, if one gives up the body there, at my secret Pañcaśira,
Being wise, intelligent, and free from passion and delusion,
There is another supreme tīrtha of mine called Somābhiṣeka; when the Brāhmaṇas were enthroned, Soma was anointed by me.
There I was pleased by Atri's son, O Mādhavi.
And by my grace, O Earth, he attained the highest perfection.
Here are born and here dissolve Skanda, Indra, and the hosts of Maruts.
There is a place called Somagiri, where the stream falls to the earth.
Whoever bathes there, having fasted for three nights, O woman,
And if one dies there, O goddess, having performed a most difficult act,
There is a most secret pool of mine called Urvaśikuṇḍa in that field.
There I perform austerity, O goddess, even for the sake of the gods.
Then, as I was practicing austerity there for many years,
It is certain that with each single fruit here at Badari—
There, I remain for ten crores, for ten years, for ten arbuda (hundred million).
Then the gods do not see me, as I abide in the secret path.
But I, established in austerity, see everything, O Earth.
Then all those deities addressed the Grandfather (Brahma).
Having heard the words of the gods, Brahma, the grandsire of the worlds—
Then the gods, along with the Gandharvas, Siddhas, and supreme seers—
There, the gods, led by Indra, perceive me.
Protect us, O Hrishikesha, with your supreme grace.
All those whom I have looked upon have attained the highest bliss.
Whoever bathes here is freed from all sins; there is no doubt of this.
Whoever gives up his life here, devoted to my deeds—
Whoever remembers the holy Badari hermitage, wherever he may be—
Whoever hears this always, or my devotee who constantly recites it—
