Varaha Purana

वेदधारमिति ख्यातं तस्मिन्क्षेत्रे परे मम 141.

In that sacred field of mine, it is renowned as Vedadhara.

तत्रैव हिमवत्पृष्ठे चतुःशृङ्गाद्बृहत्तराः

There, on the slope of the Himalaya, are peaks greater than the four-peaked one.

यस्तत्र कुरुते स्नानं चतूरात्रोषितो नरः

Whoever bathes there, having observed a fast for four nights,

अथात्र मुञ्चते प्राणान्मम कर्मपथे स्थितः। देवलोकमतिक्रम्य मम लोकं प्रतिष्ठते

Then, if he gives up his life there, established on my path of action, surpassing the world of the gods, he attains my own realm.

द्वादशादित्यकुण्डेति तस्मिन्क्षेत्रे परे मम

In that supreme field of mine, it is known as the Pool of the Twelve Suns.

तत्र पर्वतशृंगे तु स्थूलमूले शिलातले

There, at the mountain peak, at the base of a great tree, on a stone surface,

यस्तत्र कुरुते स्नानं यां काञ्चिद्द्वादशीं यदि

Whoever bathes there on any twelfth lunar day,

अथात्र मुञ्चते प्राणान्मम कर्मणि संस्थितः

Then, if he gives up his life there, devoted to my action,

लोकपालमिति ख्यातं तस्मिन्क्षेत्रे परे मम

In that supreme field of mine, it is renowned as Lokapala.

तत्र पर्वतमध्ये तु स्थलकुण्डं बृहन्मम

There, in the midst of the mountain, is my great terrestrial pool.

तत्र स्नानं तु कुर्वीत ज्येष्ठमासस्य द्वादशीम् 141.

There, one should bathe on the twelfth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Jyeshtha.

अथात्र मुञ्चते प्राणान्मम कर्मसु तत्परः

Then, if he gives up his life there, intent on my deeds,

अस्ति मेरोर्वरं नाम तस्मिन् गुह्यं परं मम

There is a place called Merorvara; in it is my supreme secret.

धारास्तिस्रः पतन्त्यत्र सुवर्णसदृशप्रभाः

There, three streams fall, shining with a radiance like gold.

यस्तत्र कुरुते स्नानं त्रिरात्रोपोषितो नरः

Whoever bathes there, having fasted for three nights,

अथ तत्र मृतो देवि तस्मिन् गुह्ये परे मम

Then, O Devi, if one dies there, in that supreme secret of mine,

मानसोद्भेदमिति च तत्रान्यत्तीर्थमुत्तमम्

There, too, is another excellent ford called Manasodbheda.

देवा अपि न जानन्ति तं देशं तत्र संस्थितम्

Even the gods do not know that place which is established there.

यस्तत्र कुरुते स्नानमहोरात्रोषितो नरः

Whoever bathes there, having fasted for a day and night, O woman,

अस्ति पञ्चशिरं नाम तस्मिन्गुह्यं परं मम

There is a most secret place of mine called Pañcaśira.

तत्र वै पंच कुण्डानि स्थूलशीर्षशिलोच्चये 141.

There, indeed, are five pools at the summit of the great-headed rock.

यत्र तन्मध्यमं कुण्डं छिन्नमेव स्वयम्भुवा

Among them, the middle pool is distinctly marked by the self-born one.

यस्तत्र कुरुते स्नानं पंचरात्रोषितो नरः

Whoever bathes there, having fasted for five nights, O woman,

तथात्र मुञ्चते प्राणान् गुह्ये पञ्चशिरे मम

In the same way, if one gives up the body there, at my secret Pañcaśira,

बुद्धिमान्मतिमांश्चैव रागमोहविवर्जितः

Being wise, intelligent, and free from passion and delusion,

अस्ति सोमाभिषेकेति तीर्थमन्यत्परं मम। राजत्वे ब्राह्मणानां तु मया सोमोऽभिषेचितः

There is another supreme tīrtha of mine called Somābhiṣeka; when the Brāhmaṇas were enthroned, Soma was anointed by me.

तत्राहं तोषितस्तेन अत्रिपुत्रेण माधवि

There I was pleased by Atri's son, O Mādhavi.

प्राप्तश्च परमां सिद्धिं मत्प्रसादाद्वसुन्धरे

And by my grace, O Earth, he attained the highest perfection.

जायतेऽस्मिन्प्रलीयंते स्कन्देन्द्राः समरुद्गणाः

Here are born and here dissolve Skanda, Indra, and the hosts of Maruts.
