एवमेतन्महाभाग यत्त्वया परिभाषितम्
Thus it is, O greatly fortunate one, as you have spoken.
एषा वै द्वादशी तात प्रभुनारायणप्रिया
This is indeed the twelfth day, dear one, beloved of Lord Nārāyaṇa.
ददतेऽस्यां प्रहृष्टाश्च द्वादश्यां कौमुदे सिते
On this twelfth day in the bright Kaumudi, the joyful give gifts.
तेन दानप्रभावेण विष्णुतोषकरेण च 138.
By the power of that giving, which brings delight to Viṣṇu—
एवं कथयतां तेषां प्रभाता रजनी शुभा
As they spoke in this way, the auspicious night passed into morning.
शुचिर्भूत्वा यथान्यायं क्षौमवस्त्रविभूषितः
Having become pure, as is proper, and adorned with linen garments—
उभौ तच्चरणौ गृह्य पितरौ समभाषत
He took hold of both his parents' feet and addressed them.
यद्भवान्पृच्छते तात गुह्यं सौकरवं प्रति
Whatever you ask, dear father, regarding the secret of the boar—
भक्षिताश्च पतंगा मे अजीर्णेनातिपीडितः
I ate insects and, afflicted by indigestion, was greatly tormented.
दृष्ट्वा मां विह्वलं बाला गृहीत्वा क्रीडितुं गताः
Seeing me bewildered, the children took me and went off to play.
त्वया दृष्टो मया दृष्टो ह्यं चेति कलिः कृतः
You saw me, and I saw you—thus, the contest was made.
न ममेति तवेत्युक्त्वा ह्यादित्यं तीर्थमुत्तमम्
Saying, 'Not mine, but yours,' I went to the supreme holy place of the Sun.
तत्र मुक्ता मया प्राणाः सूर्यतीर्थे महौजसि
There, at the mighty holy place of the Sun, I released my life-breath.
जातस्तव सुतो मातस्तदेतद्दिनमुत्तमम् 138.
Mother, your son was born; this is that most auspicious day.
व्यतीतानि च गुह्यं ते कथनं मम चैव यत्
The secret of what has passed, and my own story, I have told you.
अहं कर्म करिष्यामि गच्छ तात नमोऽस्तु ते
I shall perform my duty; go, dear one, salutations to you.
विष्णुप्रोक्तानि कर्माणि यं यं कारयिता भवान्
Whatever deeds are declared by Viṣṇu, those you should have performed.
वटमाला यथान्यायं कर्मसंसारमोक्षणम्
The garland of banyan leaves, as is proper, brings liberation from the cycle of actions.
कृत्वा तु विपुलं कर्म ततः पंचत्वमागताः
Having performed great deeds, they then attained death.
विमुक्ताः सर्वसंसाराच्छ्वेतद्वीपमुपागताः
Freed from all worldly existence, they reached the White Island.
सर्वः श्रिया युतस्तत्र रोगव्याधिविवर्जितः
There, all are endowed with prosperity, free from disease and illness.
मोदन्ते तु यथान्यायं प्रसादात्क्षेत्रजान्मम
They rejoice there, as is proper, by the grace born of my field.
पुनरन्यत्प्रवक्ष्यामि यद्वृत्तं सौकरे मम
Again, I shall tell another story of what happened in my boar incarnation.
तिर्यग्योनिविनिर्मुक्ताः श्वेतद्वीपमुपागताः 138.
Freed from birth among animals, they reached the White Island.
स कुलं तारयेत्तूर्णं दश पूर्वान्दशावरान्
He quickly delivers his lineage—ten ancestors before and ten after.
न पठेत्पिशुनानां च एकाकी तु पठेद्गृहे
One should not recite among slanderers, but may recite alone at home.
वैष्णवानां च पुरतो यै व शास्त्रगुणान्विताः
And before the Vaiṣṇavas, those who are endowed with the virtues of the scriptures—
इति श्रीवराहपुराणे खञ्जरीटोपाख्यानं नामाष्टत्रिंशदधिकशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the one hundred thirty-eighth chapter, named 'The Story of Khañjarīṭa,' in the glorious Varāha Purāṇa.
अथ सौकरमाहात्म्यम् शृणु तत्त्वेन मे देवि लिप्यमानस्य यत्फलम्
Now, the greatness of the boar—listen from me, O goddess, to the true result of what is being written.
गृहीत्वा गोमयं भूमे मम वेश्मोपलेपयेत्
Taking cow dung, one should plaster the ground of my abode.
