There, facing east, first washing the feet with water—
Then, immediately after, washing the hands with water—

For one who acts in this way, my prescribed order of actions is maintained.
Then, having heard the words of Nārāyaṇa, the goddess Earth—

Dharanī said: You should explain the process of expiation and purification.

And whoever, having committed transgression against me, approaches me—
Becoming a worm, he remains as is proper; of this there is no doubt.
And by what means, O noble one, one who has acted thus may become accomplished again—

A brāhmaṇa, kṣatriya, vaiśya, and those established in my doctrine—
Freed from sin, they attain the highest state.

I always desire one who is self-controlled, auspicious, devoted to the Lord, and pure.
Free from pride, delighting in virtuous acts, devoted to me.
When an angry but pure devotee, purified, attains me—

He becomes a frog for three hundred years, a demon for ten more.
He is born blind, O fair-hipped one, five, seven, or nine times.

He eats garlic and ash, and moves through the sky.

Those of little strength, free from fear, filled with greed and delusion—
Then the lotus-eyed Varaha stood before her.
