Listen attentively, O Earth, as I explain to you the truth.
One dwells in the Raurava hell for a thousand divine years.
I will declare here the expiation by which one may be freed from sin.
One bed made of water, one bed lying in the open sky.
This has been told to you, O gentle one, regarding the one who expels excrement.
Thus ends the one hundred thirty-third chapter, named 'Expiation for Defecation and Urination during Worship,' in the glorious Varaha Purana.
Now, regarding expiations for offenses committed during worship and related rites, except for my own actions, O devotee of my deeds.
One becomes foolish, O fair-hipped one, if devoted to my actions.
By lying in the open sky for fifteen days.
Thus is the expiation for abandoning silence; adorned in blue garments, whoever approaches me.
I will explain for him, O fair-hipped one, the cleansing of offenses.
By performing the Chandrayana vow with the prescribed ritual.
Whoever approaches me improperly, without the prescribed method.
Whatever he offers, O beautiful one, fragrant with sandal and garlands.
Then, having heard the words of Narayana, she, steadfast in her vow.
The Earth spoke: Having purified myself, you ought to reveal the secret practice.
By what ritual, having become a devotee on earth.
This is my doubt, O Lord; indeed, I am greatly curious.
Śrī Varāha said: I have explained to you, in its true essence, this supreme and profound secret.
Whoever, having renounced all actions, approaches me—
There, facing east, first washing the feet with water—
Then, immediately after, washing the hands with water—
In the same way, one should touch each foot separately, saying 'pañca pañca' after that.
There, one should drink three mouthfuls of water, which purifies all sins.
Then, performing prāṇāyāma, being wholly absorbed in contemplation of me—
There, one should touch the head three times, where Brahman is established.
There, one who is established in non-duality should touch himself wherever he abides.
This is the procedure to be followed when seeking approach to me.
For one who acts in this way, my prescribed order of actions is maintained.
Then, having heard the words of Nārāyaṇa, the goddess Earth—
