य एतेन विधानेन प्रायश्चित्तं समाचरेत्
Whoever performs expiation by this procedure,
इति श्रीवराहपुराणे मृतकस्पर्शनप्रायश्चित्तं नाम द्वात्रिंशदधिकशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the one hundred and thirty-second chapter, named 'Expiation for Touching the Dead,' in the Śrī Varāha Purāṇa.
अथ पूजासामयिकगुदरवपुरीषोत्सर्जनयोः प्रायश्चित्तम् स्पृशमानेन मां भूमे वातकर्म प्रमुच्यते
Now, expiation for touching during worship, ritual, urine, or feces: When one touches me, O Earth, wind passes from the body.
मक्षिका पञ्च वर्षाणि त्रीणि वर्षाणि मूषकः
The fly for five years, the mouse for three years.
एष वै तापनं देवि मोहनं मम सांप्रतम्
This, O Devi, is indeed torment, bewilderment for me at present.
श्रुत्वा वाक्यं हृषीकेशं प्रत्युवाच वसुन्धरा अतुलं लभते पापं तव कर्मपरायणः
Hearing these words, Vasundharā replied to Hṛṣīkeśa: Your devotee of action attains incomparable sin.
तस्य देव सुखार्थाय विशुद्धिं वक्तुमर्हसि शृणु कार्त्स्न्येन मे देवि कथ्यमानं मयाऽनघे
O Deva, for his happiness you should declare purification. Hear in full from me, O sinless one, as I explain.
अपराधमिमं कृत्वा सन्तरेद्येन कर्मणा
Having committed this offense, one should cross over it by a prescribed act.
कर्म चैवं ततः कृत्वा स च मे नापराध्यति
And having performed such an act, he is not at fault with me.
एतत्ते कथितं भद्रे महाकर्मापराधिनः
This has been told to you, O fortunate one, regarding the great offense of action.
शृणु तत्त्वेन मे भूमे कथ्यमानं मयाऽनघे
Listen attentively, O Earth, as I explain to you the truth.
दिव्यवर्षसहस्रं तु रौरवे नरके वसेत् 133.
One dwells in the Raurava hell for a thousand divine years.
प्रायश्चित्तं वदाम्यत्र येन मुच्येत किल्बिषात्
I will declare here the expiation by which one may be freed from sin.
एकां जलमयीं शय्यामेकामाकाशशायिनीम्
One bed made of water, one bed lying in the open sky.
एतत्ते कथितं भद्रे पुरीषं यः समुत्सृजेत्
This has been told to you, O gentle one, regarding the one who expels excrement.
इति श्रीवराहपुराणे पूजासमये गुदरवपुरीषोत्सर्गयोः प्रायश्चित्तं नाम त्रयस्त्रिंशदधिकशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the one hundred thirty-third chapter, named 'Expiation for Defecation and Urination during Worship,' in the glorious Varaha Purana.
अथ पूजादिसामयिकापराधेषु प्रायश्चित्तानि मुक्त्वा तु मम कर्माणि मम कर्मपरायणः
Now, regarding expiations for offenses committed during worship and related rites, except for my own actions, O devotee of my deeds.
मूर्खो भवति सुश्रोणि मम कर्मपरायणः
One becomes foolish, O fair-hipped one, if devoted to my actions.
आकाशशयनं कृत्वा दिनानि दश पञ्च च
By lying in the open sky for fifteen days.
इति मौनत्यागप्रायश्चित्तम् भूषितो नीलवस्त्रेण यो हि मामुपपद्यते
Thus is the expiation for abandoning silence; adorned in blue garments, whoever approaches me.
तस्य वक्ष्यामि सुश्रोणि अपराधविशोधनम्
I will explain for him, O fair-hipped one, the cleansing of offenses.
व्रतं चान्द्रायणं कृत्वा विधिदृष्टेन कर्मणा
By performing the Chandrayana vow with the prescribed ritual.
अविधानेन संस्पृश्य यो हि मामुपसर्पति
Whoever approaches me improperly, without the prescribed method.
तेन दत्तं वरारोहे गन्धमाल्यसुगन्धितम्
Whatever he offers, O beautiful one, fragrant with sandal and garlands.
ततो नारायणवचः श्रुत्वा सा संशितव्रता
Then, having heard the words of Narayana, she, steadfast in her vow.
धरण्युवाच उपस्पृश्य समाचारं रहस्यं वक्तुमर्हसि ।। 134.
The Earth spoke: Having purified myself, you ought to reveal the secret practice.
केन कर्मविधानेन भूत्वा भागवता भुवि
By what ritual, having become a devotee on earth.
एतन्मे संशयं देव परं कौतूहलं हि मे
This is my doubt, O Lord; indeed, I am greatly curious.
श्रीवराह उवाच कथितं मम तत्त्वेन गुह्यमेतत्परं महत्
Śrī Varāha said: I have explained to you, in its true essence, this supreme and profound secret.
विमुच्य सर्वकर्माणि यो हि मामुपसर्पति
Whoever, having renounced all actions, approaches me—
