Still, O Earth, food from the king is considered blameworthy because of that.
Therefore, whatever I am about to declare, listen to it, O Earth.
Having established me, O goddess, through the prescribed rite,
Food that remains after being offered to me by the devoted Bhāgavatas is pure.
Hearing thus the words of Viṣṇu, the Earth, steadfast in her vow,
Earth said: By what act is it purified? Tell me that, O Janārdana.
Śrī Varāha said: By which means do those who partake of the king's food become purified?
By performing one Cāndrāyaṇa and a thorough Taptakṛcchra penance,
There is no fault for him, O Earth, this is my word; if one desires supreme attainment for the sake of my worship here.
Thus ends the one hundred thirtieth chapter, entitled 'The Expiation for Eating the King's Food,' in the Śrī Varāha Purāṇa, the divine scripture.
Now, the expiation for not chewing a tooth-stick: Whoever approaches me without chewing a tooth-stick—
Hearing the words of Nārāyaṇa, the Earth, devoted to righteousness—
Earth said: How does everything perish because of a single transgression?
Śrī Varāha said: By which a single transgression destroys previous merit—
A human being, O blessed one, afflicted by sin and possessed of phlegm and bile,
All the seed of that is destroyed by eating without chewing a tooth-stick.
The Earth spoke: Tell me the expiation by which my righteousness is not destroyed.
Śrī Varāha said: I shall tell you now how humans become purified.
By lying on the ground for two and five days—
Thus, O gentle one, I have told you about the eating of tooth-sticks.
There is no fault in this; indeed, there is no doubt.
Thus ends the one hundred thirty-first chapter, named 'Expiation for Chewing Tooth-Sticks,' in the Śrī Varāha Purāṇa.
Now, expiation for touching the dead: If, after sexual union, one touches a corpse without bathing, O gentle one—
For a year, having heard from Nārāyaṇa, the Earth observed strict vows.
The Earth spoke: How does a man become intent on drinking semen in this way?
This is my greatest sorrow; you ought to tell me about it. Listen, O goddess, to this supreme and secret teaching.
This is the sign, O beautiful one, the determination of the supernatural offense.
Having seen, a man attains the result of that offense.
Because of the fault of the offense, purification does not occur.
O gentle one, householders devoted to my actions—
