When the bright fortnight arrived, he, established in righteousness—
Release, release, O Lord, even the discus, shining like fire.
Then, pierced by the discus, he attained me, being foremost among devotees. As for tin, lead, zinc, and bronze—these are impure, and so is iron; impurity belongs to them.
Whatever is offered with a copper vessel upon the earth—
This should always be performed by my dear devotees, the Bhāgavatas.
Initiated Bhāgavatas should offer water for washing the feet and arghya, and so forth.
O goddess, I have explained this to you in truth; what else do you wish to ask? O Lord of gods, tell me how an initiated person performs the twilight worship.
By which mantra does your devoted follower, intent on action, perform it? Listen, Mādhavī, to the supreme mantra for twilight worship, in truth.
Just as they worship the Sun, so too do they worship the former and later twilight.
Assuming a meditative posture for a moment, one should recite this mantra.
He delights in my world for as many thousands of years.
Mantra— All the gods, Brahma, Rudra, Indra, and you, O Sun, are the primal, unmanifest form arising from existence.
We, having established the god, the primal, unmanifest form, within ourselves, likewise—
Indeed, with this very mantra, the initiated should perform the twilight worship.
Thus, in the glorious Varaha Purana, the one hundred twenty-ninth chapter entitled 'Description of the Initiation of the Four Classes and Copper.'
Now, expiation for eating the king's food. Having heard thus about the initiation from the mouth of Narayana, O Earth—
Earth said: Having heard, O greatly fortunate one, I have become pure, O Lord.
Ah, truly, the greatness of the Lord of the worlds!
There is one supreme secret that abides in my heart, O Lord.
O God, your former and later offenses, even thirty-two, have been recounted.
By what action are the doers of offense purified?
Having heard those words of Earth, Hrishikesha, of great mind—
Sri Varaha said: Those who eat the king's food, whether out of greed or fear—
Indeed, those in distress eat the king's food, O Vasundhara.
Hearing the words of the Blessed One, Vasundhara trembled.
Then, becoming dejected in mind, that Earth, firm in her vow—
Earth said: What indeed is the fault of kings? That you should tell me.
Then, having heard the words of Earth, the best of those who know all dharma—
Śrī Varāha said: Food belonging to the king must never be consumed by the pious Bhārgavas.
Even though the king acts with impartiality in the world,
