If one desires the highest attainment, the eternal law of liberation,
The killing of the karīra is permitted, as are the fruits of the udumbara.
One should not eat pork or any kind of fish.
One should not engage in slander or violence at any time.
Upon seeing a guest who has arrived, having traveled a long distance,
The wife of the teacher, the wife of the king, and the wife of a Brahmin—never,
Gold and other gems, and a woman in the prime of youth,
Upon seeing another's fortune and one's own misfortune,
Thus, O Earth, he should instruct the one desiring initiation.
He should place two leaves of the udumbara tree in the middle of the altar.
Before invoking me as the vehicle, one should worship with the mantra and proper procedure; whoever does this, rain will fall and rise again.
Om! Lord Vāsudeva, may this act of mine be joined with the earth created in the form of a boar; remembering the mantra, command and make us experience your order; O Lord, come—this Brāhmaṇa desires initiation, and by your grace, let him be initiated.
Having recited this mantra, one must go to the ground, bowing with the head and knees.
Om! Welcome, you are indeed welcome.
Then, by this mantra, the earth is to be brought forth.
Mantra: To the destroyer of the unperformed, to the gods, to Rudra, destroyer of the unperformed, and to the Brāhmaṇa, let all this obtained be given to the Blessed Lord; receive it, O Lord of the worlds.
Thus, having offered arghya and water for the feet to the earth, by this act—
Mantra: Thus, may Varuṇa protect your disciple, as you shave his head.
One should give a pot to the officiant, O beautiful one.
Then, having bathed again quickly—there is no doubt.
Having given, with the resolve for liberation from worldly existence and all desires fulfilled—
Mantra: Om! I know all the devotees of the Lord, all who are well-initiated, and all the gurus.
Having bowed to the devotees of the Lord and kindled the sacred fire—
Then, having given seven times and twenty offerings of sesame rice—
Mantra: May the Aśvins, the directions, Soma and Sūrya bear witness; may we, being pleased, hear my truthful words.
By truth the earth is upheld; by truth the earth stands firm.
Thus, having performed truth, the Brāhmaṇas should again observe—
Having made three circumambulations of the Lord, the devotee, and the guru—
By the grace of the guru and the gods, initiation is obtained, sometimes by chance.
In this way, O beautiful one, the disciple should propitiate with the mantra.
