सुवर्णरत्नवस्त्राणि अन्नं चान्यदपेक्षितम् 126.
Gold, jewels, garments, food, and other desired things—
ततस्तीर्थावधिं कृत्वा दत्त्वा दानानि भूरिशः 126.
Then, having set the boundary of the holy place, he gave abundant gifts.
निर्माल्यं तु समासाद्य राजपुत्रो महातपाः 126.
Having obtained the remnants, the royal son, great in austerity—
युध्यमाना तु तेनैव नकुलेन निपातिता 126.
Fighting with him, she was struck down by Nakula.
तेजसां च महत्तेजस्तपसां च महत्तपः 126.
Of the powerful, great energy; of the ascetics, great austerity.
चतुर्भुजश्च जायेत मल्लोकेषु प्रतिष्ठितः मम भक्तसुखार्थाय किमन्यत्परिपृच्छसि
He shall be born with four arms, established among the worlds, for the happiness of my devotees. What else do you ask?
इति श्रीवराहपुराणे भगवच्छास्त्रे कुब्जाम्रक माहात्म्ये रैभ्यानुग्रहणं नाम षड्विंशत्यधिकशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Varaha Purana, in the scripture of the Lord, in the greatness of Kubjāmra, the chapter named 'The Favor to Raibhya,' the one hundred twenty-sixth chapter.
अथ ब्राह्मणदीक्षासूत्रवर्णनम् एवं धर्मांस्ततः श्रुत्वा बहुमोक्षार्थकारणात्
Now, the description of the Brahmana initiation thread: Having heard thus about dharmas, for the sake of liberation—
अहो प्रभावः क्षेत्रस्य कथ्यमानोऽतिपुष्कलम् .
Ah, the power of this sacred place, being narrated, is exceedingly abundant.
विमोहा च विशुद्धा च शृण्वानाहं त्विमां प्रभो
Both delusion and purity, I hear these, O Lord.
पुनः पृच्छामि ते देव संशयं धर्मसंहितम्
Again I ask you, O God, a question related to dharma.
एतन्मे परमं गुह्यं परं कौतूहलं च मे
This is my highest secret, and it is my greatest curiosity.
ततो महीवचः श्रुत्वा मेघदुन्दुभिनिःस्वनः
Then, hearing the words of the earth, like the sound of thunderclouds—
श्रीवराह उवाच देवा एतन्न जानन्ति ये च योगव्रते स्थिता
Śrī Varāha spoke: 'The gods do not know this, nor those established in the discipline of yoga.'
एतं धर्मं वरारोहे मङ्गल्यं मुखनिःसृतम्
O beautiful one, this is the righteous practice, auspicious and spoken from my mouth.
यच्च पृच्छसि मे भद्रे दीक्षां भागवतीं कथाम्
And what you ask of me, O fortunate lady, is the initiation and the divine teaching.
मयोक्तां लभते कश्चिद्दीक्षां चैव सुखावहाम् 127.
Whoever receives the initiation I have described attains happiness.
हरन्ति मनुजा येन गर्भसंसारसागरात्
By which people are delivered from the ocean of worldly existence and birth.
अभिगच्छेद्गुरुं देवि शाधि शिष्योऽस्मि मां गुरो
Approach the teacher, O goddess, instruct me, for I am your disciple, O guru.
लाजा मधु कुशाश्चैव घृतं चामृतसन्निभम्
Offerings of roasted grains, honey, sacred grass, and clarified butter like nectar.
कृष्णाजिनं च पालाशं दण्डं चैव कमण्डलुम्
A black antelope skin, palāśa wood, a staff, and a water pot.
यन्त्रिकामर्घपात्रं च चरुस्थालीं सदर्विकाम्
A ritual vessel for offerings, a ladle, and a cooking pot with a spoon.
भक्ष्यभोज्यान्नपानं च कर्मण्यांश्चैव संचयान्
Food to be eaten and enjoyed, drink, and other necessary provisions for the rite.
यानि कानि च बीजानि रत्नानि विविधानि च
Whatever seeds there are, and various kinds of gems.
एतान्येवोपहार्याणि गुरुमूले ततः परम्
These alone should be offered at the teacher’s feet, and nothing else.
गुरोस्तु चरणौ गृह्य ब्रूहि किं करवाणि ते
Taking hold of the teacher’s feet, say, 'What shall I do for you?'
ब्राह्मणो दीक्षमाणस्तु चतुरस्रां तु षोडशहस्तां कृत्वा तत्र च कलशोपरि युञ्जेत् ।। 127.
The brahmin who is to be initiated should make a square sixteen cubits across, and there, above it, place the water vessel.
प्रतिष्ठाप्य विधानेन धान्योपरिदृढं नवम्
Having established firmly, according to the rule, a new layer of grain above it.
तस्योपरि तिलैः पूर्णपात्रं स्थाप्य विधानतः
Upon that, place a vessel filled with sesame seeds, as prescribed.
तत्रार्चनविधिं कृत्वा गुरुधर्मविनिश्चयः
There, having performed the worship ritual, the teacher’s duties are determined.
