वाजपेयस्य यज्ञस्य फलं प्राप्नोति निष्कलम् 126.
Attains the complete fruit of the Vajapeya sacrifice.
दिनानि दश पंचैतत्कृतमेव हि मामकम्
For ten or five days, this is indeed my established rule.
जायते च चतुर्बाहुर्मम लोके प्रतिष्ठितः
He is born with four arms and is established in my world.
येन चिह्नेन विज्ञेयं तीर्थं तच्च महत्तरम्
By which sign the tirtha is known—that is the greatest.
चतुर्विंशतिर्द्वादश्यां येन विज्ञायते खलु
On the twelfth day, by which it is recognized, indeed.
शक्रतीर्थमिति ख्यातं सर्वसंसारमोक्षणम्
It is known as Shakra-tirtha, the liberator from all worldly existence.
शक्रस्तु वसते लोके वज्रहस्तो न संशयः
Shakra dwells in that world, holding the thunderbolt—of this there is no doubt.
उपोष्य दशरात्राणि मम लोकाय गच्छति
After fasting for ten nights, one goes to my world.
एकचित्तं समाधाय शृणु सुन्दरि तत्त्वतः
Focus your mind in single-pointed concentration and listen, O beautiful one, to the truth.
शक्रतीर्थस्य चिह्नं ते वसुधे परिकीर्त्तितम्
The mark of Śakra's sacred place has been described to you, O Earth.
वरुणेन तपस्तप्तं सहस्रं पञ्च सप्त च 126.
Varuṇa performed austerities there for five thousand and seven years.
यत्प्राप्नोति मृतो वापि पुरुषः संशितव्रतः
Whatever a man of firm vows attains there, whether alive or after death—
स्वच्छन्दगमनो भूत्वा एवमेव न संशयः
He moves about at will, just so, without any doubt.
सर्वसङ्गं परित्यज्य मम लोकं स गच्छति
Abandoning all attachments, he goes to my world.
तत्र धारा पतत्येका एकरूपा सदा भवेत्
There, a single stream always falls, remaining of one form.
सप्तसामुद्रकं नाम तस्मिन्कुब्जाम्रके परम्
There, in that Kubjāmra grove, is the supreme place called Saptasāmudraka.
त्रयाणामश्वमेधानां फलं प्राप्नोति मानवः
A man attains the fruit of three Aśvamedha sacrifices there.
ततः स्वर्गात्परिभ्रष्टः कुलवाञ्जायते द्विजः
Then, having fallen from heaven, a twice-born with lineage is born.
अथात्र मुञ्चते प्राणान्मुक्तसङ्गो जितेन्द्रियः
Or, here, one who is free from attachment and has mastered the senses departs from life.
तस्य चिह्नं प्रवक्ष्यामि तीर्थस्य शृणु सुन्दरि
I will tell you the mark of that sacred place; listen, O beautiful one.
विमला गाङ्गता यत्र गङ्गाजलविमिश्रितम् 126.
Where the pure Gāṅgatā is found, mingled with the waters of the Ganges.
गंधमाल्योपहार्याणि भक्षयंती यदृच्छया 126.
She eats, as she wishes, offerings of fragrant garlands and flowers.
रमतो धूमकेतोश्च वह्नेश्चैव यथा तथा 126.
Just as Dhūmaketu and Agni delight there, so too—
कुपितो राजपुत्रो वै राजपुत्रीमभाषत 126.
Angered, the prince spoke to the princess.
दर्शनीयः सुरूपश्च राज्ञां योग्यो गृहेषु च ।। 126.
He is handsome, attractive, and worthy of kings and households.
सन्मुखत्वेन च सदा तद्वद्वां याऽभवत्पुरा 126.
And always, by being face-to-face, she became just like him in the past.
ततोऽभवन्मम क्रोधो दृष्ट्वा पातितमग्रतः
Then anger arose in me, seeing him fallen before me.
वधूपुत्रवचः श्रुत्वा कोसलानां जनेश्वरः 126.
Hearing the words of the wife and son, the lord of the people of Kosala—
अवश्यमेव तद्वाक्यं वक्तव्यं मम सन्निधौ 126.
That statement must certainly be spoken in my presence.
ततः पुत्रं प्रहस्याह कुमारं स जनाधिपः वद पुत्र महाभाग पूर्वं पृष्टं मया हि यत् ।। 126.
Then the king, smiling, addressed his son: 'Speak, O fortunate one, what I had previously asked.'
