Thus, in the summer, one should perform all the prescribed rites as I have instructed.
Among all the months, the summer month is considered the foremost, having attained prominence.
In this way, O beautiful one, during summer, worship me as well.
As many flowering halls as there are on earth, and as many as are fragrant,
Likewise, during the rainy season, let my rites be performed, O Earth.
Moreover, I will tell you another rite that grants liberation from worldly existence.
With these flowers, one should worship with great reverence, reciting the mantra: 'Salutations to Nārāyaṇa.'
Those devoted to meditation see you, dark as a cloud, revered in your greatness.
In the month of Āṣāḍha, on the twelfth day, it is auspicious and brings all tranquility.
Such a mortal does not perish in this worldly existence, in every age.
By this, those devoted to action cross over worldly existence.
Having worshipped Nārāyaṇa, the god who has assumed the form of Varāha,
It should not be given to an unworthy disciple or those who corrupt the meaning of scripture.
For them, loss of wealth and virtue quickly arises from reciting it.
This, O blessed one, is what I have told you, which you previously asked about.
Thus ends the one hundred twenty-fourth chapter, named 'Rite of the Seasons,' in the sacred scripture of the Varāha Purāṇa.
Then, having heard the rites for the six seasons, the Earth, steadfast in her vow, spoke of the wheel of illusion.
Those auspicious and pure things which you have mentioned,
Having heard these deeds spoken by you, O Mādhava,
This, to me, is the highest secret and arouses the greatest curiosity as well.
You always speak of this as my illusion, O Deva.
I wish to know the meaning of this illusion, the supreme and most secret truth.
Then, smiling, he spoke these words to Vasundharā.
Why do you undergo needless trouble for what you will see?
O wide-eyed one, what more shall I say to you, Vasundharā, about my illusion?
A land becomes arid—this is my illusion, dear one; just as the moon wanes and waxes fortnight by fortnight.
At new moon it is not seen; this, truly, is my illusion.
When coolness arises in the summer, this, truly, is my illusion.
When the sun rises in the east at dawn, this, O beautiful one, is my illusion.
When a creature is born in the womb, this, O beautiful one, is my illusion; the soul, entering the womb, experiences pleasure and pain.
