एवं कर्माणि कुर्वन्ति द्वादश्यां वै यशस्विनि
In this way, O illustrious one, these acts are performed on the twelfth day.
एवं वै शारदं कर्म निखिलं कथितं मया
Thus, I have described in full the entire autumnal rite.
इति प्रबोधिनीकर्म यानि कर्माणि कुर्वन्ति पुंसो यान्ति परां गतिम्
Thus concludes the rite of awakening; the acts performed by men lead them to the supreme state.
शीतवाताभिसन्तप्ता मम भक्त्या व्यवस्थिताः
Those who, afflicted by cold and wind, remain steadfast in devotion to me,
शिशिरे यानि कर्माणि पुष्पिताश्च वनस्पतीः
The acts performed in winter, and the trees that have blossomed,
कराभ्यामञ्जलिं कृत्वा इमं मंत्रमुदीरयेत्
With hands joined in reverence, one should recite this mantra:
मन्त्रः – शिशिरो भवान् धातरिमं लोकनाथ हिमं दुस्तरं दुष्प्रवेशं कालं संसारान्मां तारयेमं धर्त्ता त्रिलोकनाथ
Mantra— O Lord of winter, O Sustainer, O Lord of the worlds, this frost, this difficult and hard-to-enter season—carry me across this worldly existence, O Upholder, Lord of the three worlds.
यस्त्वथैतेन मन्त्रेण शिशिरे कर्म कारयेत् 123.
Whoever performs acts in winter with this mantra,
अन्यच्च ते प्रवक्ष्यामि तच्छृणुष्व वसुन्धरे
Moreover, I will tell you something else; listen to it, O Earth.
अहं तत्र प्रवक्ष्यामि पुष्पादीनां च यत्फलम्
There I will declare the results of flowers and other offerings.
तिष्ठते विष्णुलोकेऽस्मिन्यो ददाति स्म निश्चलम्
Whoever gives steadfastly remains in the world of Viṣṇu.
मतिमान्धृतिमान्भूत्वा गन्धपुष्पाणि दापयेत्
Being wise and resolute, one should offer fragrant flowers.
द्वादश्यां चैव यो दद्यात्त्रीन्मासांश्च समाहितः
And whoever gives on the twelfth day, with concentration, for three months,
वैशाखस्य तु मासस्य वनमालां सुपुष्पिताम्
And in the month of Vaiśākha, a garland from the forest, richly blossomed,
वर्षाणि द्वादशैवेह तेन पूजा कृता भवेत्
By this, worship is considered to have been performed for twelve years.
मासि मार्गशिरे भद्रे दद्यादुत्पलमिश्रितम्
In the month of Mārgaśīrṣa, O fortunate one, one should offer flowers mixed with lotuses.
श्रुत्वेति वचनं तस्य प्रश्रयेण तु माधवि
Hearing these words, Mādhavī responded with humility.
प्रभो द्वादश मासाश्च षष्ट्युत्तरशतत्रयम् 123.
O Lord, there are twelve months and three hundred sixty-two days.
द्वादशीं चापि देवेश प्रशंससि सदा मम
O Lord of the gods, you always praise the Dvādaśī for my sake.
प्रहस्य तामुवाचेदं वचनं धर्मसंश्रितम्
Smiling, he spoke to her these words grounded in righteousness.
तिथीनां द्वादशी चापि सर्वयज्ञफलाधिका
Among lunar days, Dvādaśī surpasses all in yielding the fruits of sacrifice.
तदेकं संप्रदायैव द्वादश्यामभिविन्दति
By performing a single act on Dvādaśī, one attains the results of all sacrifices.
महानाधिहरो योगस्तेनैतत्प्रभवो धरे
This is a great remover of obstacles, O Earth, and its power arises from yoga.
गन्धपत्रं करे गृह्य इमं मन्त्रमुदीरयेत्
Taking a fragrant leaf in hand, one should recite this mantra.
गृहाण गन्धपत्राणि धर्ममेव प्रवर्द्धय
Accept these fragrant leaves and let righteousness increase.
पुष्पाणां च प्रवक्ष्यामि यो गुणो यच्च वै फलम् ॐ नमो वासुदेवायेत्युक्त्वा मन्त्रमुदीरयेत्
I will now declare the virtue and the result of flowers; having said 'Om, obeisance to Vāsudeva,' one should recite the mantra.
मन्त्रः – भगवन्नाज्ञापय सुमनांसीमानि अर्च्चयितुं मां सुमनसङ्कुरु गृह्णीष्व सुमनस्कं देव सुगन्धेन ते नमः
Mantra: O Lord, permit me to offer these good flowers; make my mind auspicious; accept, O God, this flower with fragrance; obeisance to you.
प्राप्नोति ददमानस्तु मम कर्मपरायणः 123.
One who, devoted to my service, offers thus, attains the result.
दिव्यं वर्षसहस्रं वै मम लोकेषु तिष्ठति
He dwells in my worlds for a divine thousand years.
सुमनो गन्धसम्भूतं यत्त्वया पूर्वपृच्छितम्
