He who touches a Kapila cow with devotion, and does not defile a maiden—
He who offers water, is devoted to his teacher, and is not talkative—
He does not enter the womb; he attains my world.
Thus ends the one hundred twenty-first chapter, called 'The Absence of Birth,' in the glorious Varaha Purana.
Now, the greatness of Kokamukha: Hear, O Vasundhara, the supreme secret among secrets.
He who does not engage in intercourse on the eighth or fourteenth day—
He who, even in childhood or youth, always follows me faithfully—
He who, though living amid hardship, does not divide, and is endowed with virtues—
He should not commit wrongful acts, remaining steadfast in the vow of youth.
And he who is utterly free from desire, always without longing for others' possessions, O fair one, this secret is difficult even for the gods to attain.
Hear this, O flawless-limbed one, as I recount it to you, O sinless one.
Those who do not harm living beings, whose hearts are pure and who are devoted to compassion—
Their minds do not waver; they attain my beloved status.
Vasundhara spoke to the god in the form of Varaha.
Thus, by your devotion, you are worthy to hear my supreme secret.
Having abandoned the Bhadrakarna lake, you praise Kokamukha.
Having left Kedara, why do you praise Kokamukha?
Having left the mighty fortress, why indeed do you praise Kokamukha?
Having left Ekalinga, why do you praise Kokamukha?
The Lord, in the form of Varaha, replied to Vasundhara: 'O great one, what you say to me, O timid one, is so.'
I shall tell you the secret by which Kokā is distinguished.
These are the Pāśupata rites; Kokā belongs indeed to the Bhāgavata.
A rite was performed at the entrance to Kokā, in my sacred field, O beautiful one.
There, in a pond with little water, a fish remained; from its mouth, a strong fish quickly emerged.
Falling down, seizing it, he hurriedly leapt away.
By the power of that field, the prince became a lord.
Then, in time, the hunter's wife—
A certain shrew, greedy for flesh, eager for meat from his hand—
The hunter, by force, sought to take the shrew who desired the meat.
O good lady, she fell from the sky into Kokā, in my presence.
