आचार्यभक्ता देवेषु भक्ता भर्तरि वत्सला
Devoted to her teacher, devoted to the gods, affectionate toward her husband,
मम लोकस्थिता सा वै भर्त्तारं प्रसमीक्षते
She, established in my world, looks upon her husband with favor.
स ततोऽत्र प्रतीक्षेत भार्यां भर्त्तरि वत्सलाम्
He should likewise regard his affectionate wife with favor.
ऋषयो मां न पश्यन्ति मम कर्मपथे स्थिताः
The seers, though established in my path of action, do not see me.
किं पुनर्मानुषा ये च मम कर्मव्यवस्थिताः
What then of humans, who are also established in my path of action?
मम मायाविमूढास्तु न प्रपद्यन्ति माधवि
Those deluded by my māyā, O Mādhavi, do not approach me.
तानहं भावसंसिद्धान्बुद्ध्वा संविभजामि वै
Those who are perfected in disposition, I recognize and indeed distribute (to them accordingly).
तेनेदं कथितं देवि आख्यानं धर्मसंयुतम्
Thus, O goddess, this account imbued with dharma has been told.
ततो न चोपदिष्टाय न शठाय प्रदापयेत
Therefore, it should not be given to one who has not been instructed, nor to a deceitful person.
शठाय च न दातव्यं नास्तिकाय न माधवि 117.
It should not be given to the deceitful, nor to the atheist, O Mādhavi.
एतत्ते कथितं देवि मम धर्मं महौजसम्
Thus, O goddess, my mighty dharma has been declared to you.
इति श्रीवराहपुराणे द्वात्रिंशदपराधकथनं नाम सप्तदशाधिकशततमोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the one hundred seventeenth chapter, named 'The Account of Thirty-Two Transgressions,' in the glorious Varāha Purāṇa.
अथ देवोपचारविधिः शृणु तत्त्वेन मे भद्रे प्रायश्चित्तं यथाविधि
Now, the procedure for worship of the gods: Listen attentively, O fortunate one, to the proper method of expiation.
वक्ष्यमाणेन मन्त्रेण उद्धृत्य दन्तकाष्ठकम्
With the mantra to be spoken, taking up a tooth-stick,
दीपे प्रज्वालिते तत्र हस्तशौचं तु कारयेत्
When the lamp has been lit, one should cleanse the hands there.
वन्दयित्वास्य चरणौ दन्तधावनमानयेत्
After bowing to his feet, one should proceed to brush the teeth.
मन्त्रश्च – भुवनभवन रविसंहरण अनन्तो मध्यश्चेति गृह्णेमं भुवनं दन्तधावनम्
The mantra is: 'O Source of the worlds, O Remover of the Sun, O Endless One, O One in the middle—thus we take this earth as the stick for cleaning the teeth.'
यत्त्वया भाषितं सर्वमेवं धर्मविनिश्चयम्
All that you have spoken is indeed the full determination of dharma.
नित्यं शिरसोत्तार्य धृत्वा शिरसि चात्मनः
Always, after raising the head, one should hold it upon one's own head.
कार्याणि मुखकर्माणि स्वल्पेन सलिलेन च
The actions of the mouth should be performed with only a little water.
इष्ट्वेममुक्तमन्त्रेण संसारात्तु प्रमुच्यते
Having worshipped with this unfailing mantra, one is released from worldly existence.
मन्त्रश्च- तद्भगवन्त्वां गुणश्च आत्मनश्चापि गृह्ण वारिणः सर्वदेवतानां मुखमेव प्रक्षालयेत् 118.
The mantra is: 'O Lord, accept yourself, your qualities, and your own self with water; let the mouth of all the deities be washed.'
ततः पुष्पाञ्जलिं दत्त्वा भगवन् भक्तवत्सल
Then, offering a handful of flowers, O Lord, lover of devotees—
मन्त्रज्ञानां यज्ञयष्टारं भूतस्रष्टारमेव च
To the knower of mantras, the performer of sacrifice, and indeed the creator of beings—
कायं निपतितं कृत्वा प्रसीदेति जनार्द्दनम्
Having made the body prostrate, one should propitiate Janardana.
मन्त्रैर्लब्ध्वा संज्ञां त्वयि नाथ प्रसन्ने त्वदिच्छातो ह्यपि योगिनां चैव मुक्तिः
Having obtained recognition through mantras, when you are pleased, O Lord, even liberation for yogis comes by your will.
. यतस्त्वदीयः कर्मकरोऽहमस्मि त्वयोक्तं यत्तेन देवः प्रसीदतु
Because I am your servant, performing actions for you; may the god be pleased by what you have instructed.
एवं मन्त्रविधिं कृत्वा मम भक्तिव्यवस्थितः
Thus, having performed the rite of mantra, established in devotion to me—
एवं सर्वं समादाय मम कर्म दृढव्रतः
Thus, having undertaken everything, steadfast in my action—
ततः स्नेहं समुद्दिश्य मंत्रज्ञः कर्मकारकः
Then, with affection in mind, the knower of mantras, the doer of actions—
