Whatever actions are performed by one who stands firm on the path of devotion to me,
Who approaches his wife at the proper time, whose mind is peaceful, and who is free from delusion,
Who always honors the teacher, is steadfast, and affectionate toward devotees,
I am never lost to him, nor is he lost to me. Now, O Mādhavī, I will speak of the duties of a Śūdra; listen.
The actions which, having performed, a Śūdra remains devoted to me—
Both are devotees of the Lord, devoted to me, steadfast in their duties.
With a pure mind, free from pride, hospitable, and humble,
Always fond of offering salutations, his mind fixed on contemplation of me,
Abandoning thousands of sages, I worship only the Śūdra.
Thus, with these qualities of action, whoever is established in devotion—
By which one attains union—hear that, O Vasundharā.
He should not brood over cold or heat, nor over gain or loss.
He who has no longing for bitter things attains the highest perfection.
Whoever, indeed, abandoning these, is always engaged in my actions,
Intent on that alone, always diligent, and averse to other tasks,
Compassionate to all beings, ready to rise in respect, greatly forgiving,
Who, at all three times and in every direction, always remains on the path of action,
And who is devoted to observance, with his mind ever near me—
He who is always devoted to my worship with flowers, fragrance, and incense,
Who at times subsists on milk, on barley gruel, or even on air,
Who sometimes eats every fourth day, and sometimes only fruits,
Who performs these acts of mine for seven lifetimes,
Thus ends the one hundred fifteenth chapter, on the origin of various actions, in the glorious Varaha Purana.
Now, the determination of happiness and sorrow: Whoever causes actions to be performed according to the method I have taught,
With single-mindedness, established firmly, and free from ego,
Who, on the twelfth day or at other times, eats fruits, roots, and vegetables,
On the sixth, eighth, and new moon days, and on the fourteenth day in both fortnights,
Thus, with the discipline of yoga, a resolute person should perform actions,
For him there is no fatigue, no old age, no delusion, nor any disease.
I shall declare the result arising from my actions for them.
