पुनश्च रावणो रक्षः क्षयितं स्वेन तेजसा
Again, Ravana, the demon, was slain by your own power.
न च जानाम्यहं देव तव किंचिद्विचेष्टितम्
O God, I do not know anything of your activities.
सृष्ट्वा किमादिशः सर्वां न प्राज्ञायत किंचन
After creating everything, what did you command? Nothing at all was understood.
अंशवश्चन विद्यन्ते न नक्षत्रा न वा ग्रहाः
There were no rays, no stars, nor planets present.
शनैश्चरो बुधो नात्र न चेन्द्रो धनदो यमः
Saturn, Mercury, Indra, Kubera, and Yama were not here.
वर्जयित्वात्र त्रीन्देवान् ब्रह्मविष्णुमहेश्वरान् 113.
Except for the three gods—Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshvara—none were present here.
गत्वा च शरणं देवी दैन्यं वदति माधवी
Having sought refuge, the goddess Madhavi spoke humbly.
सपर्वतवनैः सार्द्धं मां तारय पितामह
O Grandfather, rescue me together with the mountains and forests.
मुहुर्तं ध्यानमास्थाय पृथिवीं तामुवाच ह
Having entered meditation for a moment, he addressed the earth.
लोकनाथं सुरश्रेष्ठमादिकर्त्तारमञ्जसा
He is the lord of the worlds, the foremost of gods, the original creator, directly.
सर्वेषामेव नः कार्यं यच्च किञ्चित्प्रवर्त्तते
Whatever action arises for any of us, it is all his work.
अनन्तशयने देवं शयानं योगशायिनम्
The god who lies on Ananta, resting in yogic sleep.
कृताञ्जलिपुटा देवी प्रसादयति माधवम् अहं भारसमायुक्ता ब्रह्माणं शरणङ्गता
With hands joined in reverence, the goddess pleaded with Madhava: 'I am burdened and have taken refuge with Brahma.'
प्रत्याख्याता भगवता तेनाप्युक्तमिदं वचः
Rejected by the Blessed Lord, he spoke these words.
स त्वां तारयितुं शक्तो मग्नासि यदि सागरे
If you are able to rescue me, who am submerged in the ocean,
भक्त्या त्वां शरणं यामि प्रसीद मम माधव 113.
With devotion I seek refuge in you; be gracious to me, O Mādhava.
वासवो वरुणश्चासि ह्यग्निर्मारुत एव च
You are Indra, you are Varuṇa, you are Agni, and you are also Vāyu.
मत्स्यः कूर्म्मो वराहश्च नरसिंहोऽसि वामनः
You are the Fish, the Tortoise, the Boar, the Man-Lion, and the Dwarf.
एवं पश्यसि योगेन श्रूयते त्वं महायशाः
Thus you are seen through yoga; you are heard of, O greatly renowned one.
पृथिवी वायुराकाशमापोज्योतिश्च पञ्चमम्
Earth, air, space, water, and fire as the fifth—
सग्रहाणि च ऋक्षाणि कलाकाष्ठामुहूर्त्तकाः
With their planets and stars, the divisions of time—kalās, kāṣṭhās, and muhūrtas—
सग्रहा ये च नक्षत्रा कला कालमुहूर्त्तकाः
With their planets, and those stars, the divisions of time—kalās, kālas, and muhūrtas—
मासः पक्षमहोरात्रमृतुः संवत्सराण्यपि
Month, fortnight, day and night, season, and also the years,
कला काष्ठापि षण्मासाः षड्रसाश्चापि संयमः
Kalās, kāṣṭhās, the six months, and the six seasons as well, all are restrained by you.
त्वं मेरुर्मन्दरो विन्ध्यो मलयो दर्दुरो भवान्
You are Meru, Mandara, Vindhya, Malaya, and Dardura mountains.
धनुषां च पिनाकोऽसि सांख्ययोगोऽसि चोत्तमः 113.
Of bows you are Pināka; you are the supreme Sāṃkhya and Yoga.
संक्षिप्तश्चैव विस्तारो गोप्ता यज्ञश्च शश्वतः
You are both the contraction and the expansion, the protector, and the eternal sacrifice.
वेदानां सामवेदोऽसि साङ्गोपाङ्गो महाव्रतः
Of the Vedas, you are the Sāma Veda, complete with its limbs and sub-limbs, the great vow.
अमृतं सृजसे विष्णो येन लोकानधारयत्
You produce the nectar, O Viṣṇu, by which you uphold the worlds.
धेयाधेयं जगत्सर्वं यच्च किंचित् प्रवर्त्तते
All this world, what is to be meditated on and what is not, and whatever moves—
