ततः स्वर्गात्परिभ्रष्टो जम्बूद्वीपपतिर्भवेत्

Then, having fallen from heaven, he becomes the lord of Jambudvīpa.

सर्वपापविशुद्धात्मा रुद्रलोके महीयते

With a mind purified from all sins, he is honored in the realm of Rudra.

इति श्रीवराहपुराणे श्वेतविनीताश्वोपाख्याने धान्यधेनुदानमाहात्म्यं नाम दशाधिकशततमोऽध्यायः

Thus ends the one hundred and tenth chapter, entitled 'The Greatness of Giving Grain and Cows,' in the Śvetavinītāśva narrative of the glorious Varāha Purāṇa.

अथ कपिलाधेनुदानमाहात्म्यम् अथातः सम्प्रवक्ष्यामि कपिलां धेनुमुत्तमाम्

Now, the greatness of giving a tawny cow: Therefore, I shall now explain the excellent tawny cow.

पूर्वोक्तेन विधानेन दद्याद्धेनुं सवत्सकाम्

One should give a cow with her calf, according to the procedure previously described.

कपिलायाः शिरो ग्रीवा सर्वतीर्थानि भामिनि

O beautiful one, the head and neck of the tawny cow are all the sacred fords.

प्रातरुत्थाय यो मर्त्यः कपिलागलमस्तकात्

Whoever, rising in the morning, touches the throat and head of the tawny cow—

स तेन पुण्यतोयेन तत्क्षणाद्दग्धकिल्बिषः

By that meritorious contact, at that very moment, his sins are burned away.

कल्यमुत्थाय यो मर्त्यः कुर्यात्तासां प्रदक्षिणम्

Whoever, rising early, makes a circumambulation of them—

प्रदक्षिणेन चैकेन श्रद्धायुक्तेन तत्क्षणात्

By even one circumambulation, performed with faith, at that very moment—

कपिलायास्तु मूत्रेण स्नायाच्चैव शुचिव्रतः। स गङ्गादिषु तीर्थेषु स्नातो भवति मानवः

If a pure-minded person bathes with the urine of the tawny cow, he is as if bathed in the sacred rivers like the Ganges.

तेन स्नानेन चैकेन भावयुक्तेन वै नरः

By even one such bath, performed with devotion, a man—

गोसहस्रं च यो दद्यादेकां वा कपिलां नरः 111.

Whoever gives a thousand cows, or even one tawny cow—

गवामस्थि ततोऽप्येतन्मृतगन्धेन दूषयेत्

If he pollutes it with the smell of death from the bone of a cow—

गवां कण्डूयनं श्रेष्ठं तथा च परिपालनम्

The best service to cows is scratching them, as well as protecting them.

तृणादिकानि यो दद्यात्क्षुधितेन गवाह्निकम्

Whoever gives grass and such things daily to a hungry cow—

विमानैर्विविधैर्दिव्यैः कन्याभिरभितोऽर्पितैः

With various divine aerial chariots, surrounded by maidens offered to him—

सुवर्णकपिला पूर्वं द्वितीया गौरपिङ्गला

First is the golden-brown Kapilā, second is the fair and tawny one.

पंचमी बहुवर्णा स्यात्षष्ठी च श्वेतपिङ्गला

The fifth is multicolored, and the sixth is white and tawny.

नवमी पाटला ज्ञेया दशमी पुच्छपिंगला

The ninth is to be known as reddish, and the tenth has a tawny tail.

सर्वलक्षणसंयुक्ता सर्वालंकृतसुन्दरी

She is endowed with all auspicious marks, adorned and beautiful in every way.

भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदा तेषां विष्णुमार्गप्रदायिनी

Among them, she bestows both enjoyment and liberation, and grants the path to Viṣṇu.

इति श्रीवराहपुराणे श्वेतविनीताश्वोपाख्याने कपिलादानमाहात्म्यं नाम एकादशाधिकशततमोऽध्यायः

Thus, in the Śrī Varāha Purāṇa, in the account of the white and humble horse, is the one hundred and eleventh chapter, named 'The Greatness of the Gift of the Kapilā Cow.'

अथोभयतोमुखीगोदानहेमकुम्भदानपुराणप्रशंसाः अतः परं महाराज शृणूभयमुखीं ततः

Now, the praises of the gift of the two-faced cow, the gift of the golden pot, and the Purāṇas; therefore, O King, listen further about the two-faced cow.

तदहं सम्प्रवक्ष्यामि तव पुण्यफलं महत् या त्वया कपिला प्रोक्ता पूर्वमुत्पादिता प्रभो

I shall now declare to you the great merit gained, which you previously mentioned, O Lord, regarding the Kapilā cow that was produced before.

होमधेनुः सदा पुण्या सा ज्ञेया कतिलक्षणा

She is always to be known as the sacrificial cow, ever pure, marked with Kapilā traits.

प्रसूयमाना दानेन किं पुण्यं स्याच्च माधव

What merit arises, O Mādhava, from giving her away while she is producing offspring?

श्रीवराह उवाच यच्छ्रुत्वा सर्वपापेभ्यो मुच्यते नात्र संशयः

Śrī Varāha said: By hearing this, one is freed from all sins—of this there is no doubt.

कपिला ह्यग्निहोत्रार्थे यज्ञार्थे च वरानने

Indeed, the Kapilā cow is for the purpose of Agnihotra and sacrifice, O beautiful one.
